“You Can’t Put a Price on Honor, The Critical Running Battle on Victoria Island II”

Complain about stereotypes all you want — I loved everything about this week’s episode. Everything.

Battlefield Cleaning Service

I’ve been wondering for the longest time what the girls in the maid outfits were up to. Because in a show about war and the destructive powers of Objects blowing up anything in their way, it’s tough to picture where maids with guns would fit into all of this. Amazingly, it never occurred to me that they’d be a highly trained mercenary group. Something that makes sense when you think about how maids and things like maid cafes work for those of us without millions of dollars to have our own personal ones.

Which is precisely why I nearly died from giggling when I saw just how wide their eyes opened when Qwenthur literally dropped some mad cash for their services. The quick shift from menacing to cutesy happened so fast that I think almost forgot to laugh when Qwenthur cracked a joke about quickly the mercenary group of maids turned tail.

But you know what’s even more amazing than Qwenthur suddenly hiring a group of trained mercenaries dressed up as maids? The fact that said maids have a mobile operating base that seems better equipped than anything we’ve seen beforehand. Weapons, ammo, communications, and even electronic jamming equipment!? Where were all these things on all the other missions!?

A Mom’s Love

After seeing just how insane some moms can be (I’m referring to Nagisa’s mom this week in Assclass), it was nice to see Granny go to insane lengths in order to save her family. Disobeying direct orders and leaving the base during an emergency, I’m sure she understood the consequences of her actions as she bolted to the immigrant settlement city. Racing against the clock to evacuate her daughter and her family, it was great to see Granny finally get some of the spotlight to herself. That said, that momentary feeling of dread when she realized it was too late hit me pretty hard. Not necessarily because it was sad, but that feeling of failing everyone she cares for probably weight heavily on her heart.

Looking Ahead

Luckily, Qwenthur and Havia are here to save the day with the help of some pretty maid mercenaries. While it remains to be seen whether or not whether or not those seven other Objects are pieces of crap or not, it looks like we’ll be in for some big action scenes next week! Until then, I’ll be sitting here waiting patiently for more of our dynamic duo. See you!

  1. What’s better than one combat maid? A whole squad… with cat ears!

I’m glad they still have a sense of humor. A whole squad of Roberta’s would be absolutely horrifying.

      1. One of the books we aren’t likely to see this season the only characters’s we’ve seen so far to put in an appearance are Hohoho-chan (Or at least the Rush/Gatling033) and Monica.

And Burning Alpha gets more mentions than them or our heroes.

IIRC it’s book 11 before Quenther and Havia meet the main character of that book.

    1. Roman legions, Nazi Panzedivisions, Soviet hordes, all failed to conquer the world.
Thats when I will get on with conquest of the world, I will use meido outfits as uniforms instead of using recycled elements of the historical uniforms.

  2. We need a whole sub-series around the Merc Maids, lol.

Gotta give props to Qwenthur in actually bringing up what I was thinking in that I found it highly suspicious that there could be seven entire Objects that, based on looks anyway, were only slightly behind the Indigo Plasma in power when one considers how expensive and difficult to maintain just a single Object can be. Turns out they’re not much more than a couple main guns mounted in a hollow ball with a weak AI.

And in terms of granny, it also shows how people would probably be in real life in such a situation – putting your and your family’s lives ahead of everyone else; opting to get the hell out of town as fast as possible and not even trying to warn the rest of the town of the impending danger because taking the time to do so would end up endangering her own family.

  3. Notes about God Eater – 10 is here as well…

I was laughing throughout the whole sequence between Qwenther and the combat maids (and Havia to an extent, since he got tossed to the side inside the APC).

Also, the resemblance between Granny’s daughter and her younger self is rather awkward…that or the photo last week was of the daughter. Hmmmmmm…

*going off topic now with God Eater since it continued this week like it never stopped*

  4. Can anyone confirm if that was Satomi Arai (a.k.a.: RailDex‘s perverted teleporter Kuroko Shirai) voicing the head maid? If it is her, then it’s quite refreshing to see her playing against type (i.e.: the lovable lesbian sex maniac).
