Tsurezure Children delivers another fantastic episode.

General Impressions

I’ve been waiting for the show to come back around and bring back some of the earlier characters — and it finally happened! Something that, all things considered, I wouldn’t have been too disappointed about if it didn’t happen since I figured the show runners know what we’re all here for (-side eyes Akagi-). Anyways, let’s dive into some of my personal favorites from this week’s episode.

Starting with my absolute favorite, I’m glad Akagi finally got some more screen time. After his crazy introduction in episode one, I’ve been dying to see just how far much further he could go. And while it may be a little unfortunate that things were a little more relaxed, you have to love how he oozes with confidence in a way that isn’t too scummy, but is just sleezy enough to where you can enjoy it. Props to Kaji for trying her hardest to keep up that tough girl act, even though I think it’s painfully obvious that Akagi isn’t going to fall for any of that.

Moving on to my second favorite character, I’m actually really happy that we get to see a lot of Minagawa. As someone who also breaks the typical romance mold by being extra playful with Furuya (even though he clearly is flustered by it), you have to love how she isn’t actually 100% confident about how Furuya feels about her. Because as much as I would love for Furuya to call her out on her silliness (at least once), I don’t think I (or Minagawa) could handle it.

Finally, let’s rewind a little and talk about the brand new couple of Kana and Chiaki. Not only are they a perfect description of what I’d love to have in a relationship, but there’s just something endearing about a couple that’s on the verge of reaching that “everything goes, no holds” level of being comfortable with each other. Because until you reach that stage, there’s always going to be something manages to mess up those special moments. Be it self-conscious embarrassment or a nosy parent, I love how it sets up for some light hearted giggles.

Anyways, I’ll keep things short and cut this post here. I’ll catch you guys next week where it looks like there’s going to be a lot more tears than usual. See you then!

  1. No mention of Sugawara/Takano pairing? They’re my favorite after Minagawa/Furuya :< I feel sorry for Sugawara, though it's a bit refreshing to see this kind of interaction. Does their talk at the end means that Sugawara given up on confessing to Takano?

  2. This show is so embarrassing and cringeworthy, but that only shows how true-to-life it is. That first part, I almost died. It’s like someone had been following me around and taking notes.

  3. The mom was awesome. And it’s already a hideously embarrassing situation. OTOH, it was dealt with much more maturely and realistically than 99% of anime, so yay.

Minagawa is probably one of my favorites in the whole series. I especially love her interactions with Furuya’s little sister. That little sister has such great reactions.

Still waiting for Patricia and Ms. Wabisabi, hoping they both show up this season. Two of my other favorites.

  4. I’m always looking forward to seeing how Akagi and Kaji develop with the student council president/delinquent dynamic.

The first segment was hilarious in how relatable and awkward intimacy can be.
