Hina Loji ~from Luck & Logic~ – 07

「会長も木から落ちる/踊るヒナに見る会長」 (Kaichou mo ki kara ochiru/Odoru hina ni miru kaichou)
“Even Presidents Fall From Trees/You’re a Hina if You Dance, And a President if You Just Look On”

We had some moments with holiday homework and the Bon Dance festival, but make no mistake. Yuuko remained the primary focus throughout, alongside her dear friend Mizuki.

Yuuko’s Future

Behind her calm and carefree exterior, Yuuko has her own set of problems to deal with. The transition between adolescence and adulthood is truly difficult, and a struggle that I’m all too familiar with. Law Firm this, Training Contract that. It honestly feels like I’m getting funnelled down a corporate grinding machine.

I can’t possibly hold up a candle to Yuuko, who experiences the pressure of obligation to help maintain world peace. While her Logicalist powers might not be suited to combat, an ability is still an ability. It could potentially tip the scales when it matters. Any choice in this situation is pretty much an illusion, when you have so much weighing upon your shoulders. No wonder Yuuko got so depressed and worked up thinking about her future.

Mizuki’s Dream

Not sure if I should be worried, but I realise I can relate to Mizuki quite a lot. Although my mannerisms in real life come off as brash and boisterous to the point of annoying many people, I’m serious at heart and feel quite hurt when I’m not taken seriously. People often assume I’m confident, which is true to an extent. But there are many things I would like that I feel too shy to ask for. So props to Mizuki for asking out Yuuko to the Bon Dance Festival! If you don’t ask, you won’t have a chance to get anything in the first place.

She’s also shown herself to be way smarter than I originally thought. The speech she gave on the train demonstrated an acute awareness for current geopolitics within the Luck & Logic universe. My only bone to pick is that an attempt at the idea has been made before, only for the grand vision to arguably end up being lost. But as Mizuki said herself, dreams are worth having because they are so difficult to fully attain.

The Bon Dance Festival

Life is too short, so you may as well enjoy it while you can. Our girls were firing from all cylinders, dressed up in yukata and having a great time by really making the most out of the festival. There was some minor trouble with the prize for the best dancer getting stolen, which was fine because Nina got to show off a new trance too. To top it off, Lion ended up taking home the prize! She definitely looked amazing, albeit unorthodox.

One of the criticisms I have of this episode is how Mizuki happened to be conveniently sitting up in the tree, where the stolen medal was found. This consequently led to a happy turn of events, allowing her to spend the rest of the evening with Yuuko. I’ll let Hina Loji have it, because it’s the only noticeable example of inexplicably convenient placement so far. Not to mention, I was actually feeling sorry for Mizuki throughout this episode. She deserved something nice, seeing how she always looked out for Yuuko and deeply considered her feelings. That said, I think my strange sympathy results from personal bias. Let me know what you guys think!

Concluding Thoughts

Dreams don’t have to be big. They can even be simple, provided they greatly fulfil an aspect in your life. I’m glad Yuuko came to this realisation at the end, acknowledging that time spent cherishing and looking after her juniors at the academy was what she found to be most fulfilling.

So, what are my dreams? Aeons ago, I dreamed of writing for Random Curiosity. I never imagined it would be possible, yet here I am today, doing exactly that! Anyway, since that dream came true, I’m now looking to make my other dreams real. Those would be to successfully raise my own family, and run a mixed cocktail jazz bar establishment after retiring from whatever I end up doing over the course of my years as a working adult. Wish me luck everybody, and I hope you too find dreams and fulfil them across the course of this life!

Old-fashion yukata sense! Yuuko is one dangerous girl in her own way…

And it really does scare me when the comic relief comes out to make a point that no one else sees. This is probably what the teacher was talking about, Logicalists being an annoyance now.

God bless Yuuko. She’s just too pure and proper.

Also, can’t believe the teacher ate a live squid at the end of the episode. Wonder if it’s what I should be expecting when I visit glorious Nippon starting from Friday the 10th!

Just to be sure Friday is the 11th this month, so please don’t miss your flight if it is on the 10th. And have fun.

Are you going to Japan for the culture tour or the anime/manga/videogames stuff? You’d have to at least some arcades!

Probably for the food if I’m going to be perfectly honest. Maybe a day or two for anime/manga/videogames, but that’s really not a priority. My focus is on seeing what sights there are to see, and doing the things you can only do in Japan.

I hope you have a safe journey & a good time in Japan. I’m not sure how you feel about Kit Kats, but you’ll probably notice the quadrillion flavors that are exclusive to the country. You should pick some up.
