「お肉と紅葉と謎の湖」 (Oniku to Kouyou to Nazo no Mizuumi)
“Meat and Fall Colors and the Mystery Lake”
After spending time away, Rin and Nadeshiko are finally going on another trip together, and this time, they’re bringing the heat. Rin’s new portable grill has made it easier for them to share their time together as they cook a wide array of meats. Personally, it made me hungrier than ever for a visit to an Izakaya again to see kalbi and beef tongue getting grilled in Rin’s imagination. But as Yuru Camp‘s focus every episode is on specific aspects of camping that are amplified depending on the scenery, this next arc is dedicating time to the best campsites for barbecues. Lake Shibire is singled out by Chiaki as she’s heard rumors about the park being particularly popular for their cooking. Rin and Nadeshiko aren’t the only campers who want to seek out the best parks for grilling as Chiaki’s decision to scout for a campsite for her and Aoi was cemented when an old stranger offered her a bite of the steak he was grilling.
It will be interesting to see how the two pairs interact as Rin is getting fonder of Nadeshiko’s company. Hanging out with her older sister Sakura has been helping to get her more adjusted to her family, but it was her gift that brought her closer. It was funny to see Rin guess how long she could hold off on giving her the gift before it went bad, but it was sweet to see Rin’s face form a smile when she saw Nadeshiko enjoying her present. She did experience the side of Nadeshiko that gravitated towards prepped up food despite their insistence on grilling on-site, and didn’t find her to be as easy-on-the-eyes as Sakura, but it’ll be fun to see how closer they’ll get from the barbecue.
Similarly, I’m curious about the chemistry between Aoi and Chiaki. So far, we’ve only seen them for longer stretches of time with Nadeshiko, and in this episode, it’s the same cast as we see them steer her towards Lake Shibire. It was nice to see Aoi at her new job in a nearby grocery store, and, along with Sora Yori mo Tooi Basho, it’s cool to see another anime this season where some of the girls are self-funding their outings through part-time work. And it’s always great to get more of Sakura and Saki on-screen. However, Aoi’s trip to the campsite Chiaki selected is a chance for us to see how they are when they’re alone together, and those two have been growing on me very quickly. At the same time, seeing Nadeshiko and Rin grow so close together has been a heart-warming journey, and I widely anticipate any of the bonding they do while they’re doing some outdoor grilling.
