「湖畔の夜とキャンプの人々」 (Kohan no yoru to kyanpu no hitobito)
“A Night on the Lake Shore and Campers”

The second part of Rin and Nadeshiko’s trip to Lake Shibire helps to cement the main kinship between the two before the series expands further on the Out Club. As they grill the meat they’ve selected and cook the Haddock hot pot they made, they learn about how their interest in camping and sightseeing came about. In the process, they stay warm together with Secret Society Blankets, share a cup of hot cocoa, learn about grilling and tents that work well with lakeside camping, and fending off haunted spirits.

Their bonding throughout the episode also expresses how much Rin has developed since she had gotten to know Nadeshiko. Normally, it’s the cutesier characters that do the high-pitch hum after eating something delicious, but hearing it from Rin is significant in how it helps her let her guard down and enjoy her time with Nadeshiko. While Rin’s previous trips with her left her feeling weary and skeptical about whether she would want to camp with her, she’s a lot more laid-back and welcoming of her presence to the point that she was disappointed at the possibility that she could’ve missed Nadeshiko when they first met if she saw Mt. Fuji on her way to Motosuko. It was also interesting to learn that Rin’s grandpa was not only the older man that gave Chiaki a piece of his steak in the last episode, but he also instilled his love for camping on Rin as she used the supplies he gave her to kickstart her love for the outdoors.

One unique twist of fate is the inclusion of one drunken surprise camper, who is being watched over by her sober sibling. Her sibling is much more helpful than the sister as they give Rin tips on maintaining her fire place for grilling, and trade some of their Jambalaya with them in exchange for Rin and Nadeshiko’s BBQ. The sister is shaping up to be a fun character though as she clears through a great amount of the booze she brought with her. She also gives Rin a heck of a scare when her silhouette takes on the shape of the Bull Spirit that Nadeshiko had feared a chance encounter with.

Where the twist kicks in is that she came to Lake Shibire to celebrate her new position as a teacher. As a teacher that happens to camp, this gives the series an opportunity to recruit her in the girls’ camping antics, especially if they’re headed to the same school. The timing aligns well with Chiaki’s sudden initiative to recruit enough members to the Out Club to escape their cramped closet. With the next episode title alluding to the girls spending their time at school for their exams, it would be the perfect chance to see how the drunken sister fares as a teacher at their school.

  1. Another awesome episode! The tips this show gives is brilliant and is seriously wanting me to go and buy all sorts of equipment to go camping myself. Thank goodness I have no money otherwise I’d be buying all sorts of stuff left and right!

The relationship between Rin and Nadeshiko keeps growing and gives me warm, fuzzy feels. I can’t wait to see all five girls, doggie, (and maybe a teacher?) get together for a camping trip.

Though, if the teacher is drinking so much booze, could it be that she’s not too fond of camping trips? Or is she drinking to celebrate her position as a new teacher and just overdid it?

  2. this show is bad for someone on strict and controlled diet like me. as i watched the episode, my hunger pain intensified, my stomach just keeps on rumbling, and i nearly drooled. their priceless expressions as they eat their food makes me wanting to break my diet and eat. but that just shows that this anime is ALL DAMN GOOD.

PS that beef patty, the BBQ, fried rice with shrimps damn… i want to eat but i cannot. MEAT PLEASE.

  3. Heh, of course the badass grandpa from the previous episode is Rin’s grandfather. Not only that, but he was the person who got Rin into camping in the first place. Just perfect. I really love this series!

  4. Ep 07:

An good episode. but.. be they should be a little more cautious. Because introducing more characters = more budget. They do it not for free, also increase the cast and to many faces can blow up. I know, perhaps the other seiyuss time are not fitting for recording, but try to stay within your reach

This time they add some more “beginner tips” for campers, i like it. Also they did not forget about the fans with the smaller pockets.

Keep it simple, do not turn it into an 5 Star Camping tools merchandising…

Keep going, the art, the colors and the seiyuss create an wonderful meal

      1. Here is my two cents on this, since Anime is from Japan, most of what you see will NEVER be original. Japan operates on past success for a certain future. There are original ideas but not many because at the end of the day, people need to be paid.

What Panimo Manimo is saying is that Yuru Camp is an adaptation, not an anime original, and therefore the characters introduced in this episode are from the source material.

  5. The last part explains the ending of the OP showing the five girls camping. Rin and Ena give them enough members to probably meet the minimum for a club. Now how then managed to shanghai Ena…
