「さくらと神社と動物園」 (Sakura to Jinjya to Doubutsuen)
“Sakura, The Shrine, and The Zoo”

Boy, I really enjoyed this week’s episode but for probably all the wrong reasons.

General Impressions

Let’s keep this one short and sweet since it’s already a little late and the early morning darkness is really starting to push my eyes closed.

Kicking things off, I really enjoyed how this week’s card capture involved all of Sakura’s friends. Besides avoiding the whole issue of Sakura needing to sneak off without grabbing everyone’s attention, there’s just something a little thrilling when you think about Sakura’s secret getting blown to her closest friends (outside of Syaoran, Tomoyo, and Meiling). Seeing how they’ve been together for so long now, it’s actually quite the feat that Sakura hasn’t let things slip yet. And actually, while we’re talking about Sakura’s friends, let’s all take a moment to virtually pat Yamazaki’s back since there’s no denying the story is doing its damndest to stop him from talking. I’m not sure what it was, but I couldn’t help but feel bad for the guy as he was stripped of his one and only role. Toss in Chiharu actually going out of her way to console him and you had this really funny (but a wee bit sad) situation that you couldn’t help but giggle at.

Flipping things over to this week’s card capture, it’s pretty interesting to see a new power that was drawing inspiration from Sakura herself. Last I checked, the cards have a will of their own until captured and don’t necessarily have any kind of link to Sakura. That said, seeing how these Clear Cards are all in some shape or form related to the original Clow Cards, I guess it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to say that they might already have some kind of bond with Sakura. Especially when you think about the logical reason why the Clow Cards are now blank (something took their essence/powers and threw them into new cards).

Anyways, all’s well that ends well and luckily Sakura was able to finish things up without too much of an issue. Add in next week’s preview looking somewhat ominous with Kaito looking more suspicious than usual and it looks like we’re well on our way to (hopefully) getting some answers that we badly need.

Catch you guys then!

  1. My favorite epi till now. Yeah, I think the same about the powers Syaoran chooses to use. Maybe, something trigger in him, when Sakura said in the aquarium’s epi, that the new cards are showing in the same spots like before (but not in the same order, cause the fly was the first one).
I have some doubts: why Akiho is so obsessed with the school’s play? Why did Kero faint too? He saw something that he wasn’t supposed to? Clow’s family used to “stop time” with such high price, like Kero said…
I have some hope about connections with Tsubasa and/or XXXHollic, and something keeps popping in my mind: the key that Watanuki found in Yuko’s store (she said that it was a copy) and in one of Tsubasa’s chapter we saw someone looking like Touya next a magic circle… I don’t know what chapter is, but at the everyone talked about it

  2. Syaoran is a member of the Clow family. I think that’s the reason he could use equal card spells. But he does not have as much magical power as Sakura. My theory concerning the new cards: When the antagonist tries to take the power of the cards by stealing the key, Sakura’s magic power releases all cards in the city. Now these cards have lost their original form and want to meet with her again, but the antagonist’s magical book is altering their form and making them a wild power. In the end all this wild power will totally transform and become true Sakura cards. After this process Syaoran can recreate all Clow cards again.
