「烈日の騎士」 (Retsujitsu no Kishi)
“The Relentless Knight”

I knew those two “sisters” looked too suspicious.

Before we start off, let me take this moment to bask in the glory of thinking those two girls were too damn suspicious. Besides being outside during an emergency where there could have been monsters from the Dark Territory wandering around the Cathedral, I had a feeling their weapons looked a little too nice for simple sisters. Thank god my senses were right since the two were really getting on my nerves by the time we understood just who and what they were. That said, I have to give credit where credit is due since Eugeo got completely caught off guard by their whole ploy. Not only were both girls able to cleanly stab our boys, but their “act” right up to that moment was pretty darn good. Luckily Kirito was on the same train of thought as I me and was able to prepare some countermeasures to Linel and Fizel’s sneak attack.

But as if that in itself wasn’t cool enough, Kirito really took things to a whole new level this week as he took on the second-ranked (maybe created is more accurate) Integrity Knight. Fighting against the power of the sun itself, I can’t imagine how painful it was for him to literally get pierced by the power of the sun. A point that leads me into a small secondary point — have you guys noticed how well Kirito and Eugeo have been able to shrug off pain recently? Looking back to the early episodes where Kirito’s face looked like he was about to die after getting smacked by an Orc’s club, it feels almost a little odd that he’s been able to shrug things off like getting serious burns or having something pierce completely through his body. Sure I could chalk it up to his power level going up which could mean various objects have less overall “impact” on his body, but it’d be nice for the show to address it.

All that said, not too bad for another setup episode where we met a handful of characters. Luckily it looks like we’re going to be in for a treat next week when we get to see just what special powers Kirito’s blade has since the episode conveniently cut off right before we could see just what Kirito could do. In any case, see you guys then!

  1. Along with Fizel, Linel is the only known Integrity Knight who was neither a past Four Empires Unity Tournament winner, nor a criminal who had broken the Taboo Index. Because of this, the girls remember their past as humans, and do not have the illusion of having descended from the Celestial World.
Linel wondered, “But if you’re not monsters from the Dark Territory, why did you decide to infiltrate Central Cathedral?”
“Um, well…,” Eugeo started, wondering how they could continually throw him off guard, then decided to be honest and admitted, “…Long ago, a little girl who was a friend of mine got taken away by an Integrity Knight. So I’m here to take her back.”
Fizel, the one with the straw-blond hair, complained, “Oh. That’s kind of an ordinary reason.”
    “O-ordinary?”
“People whose families or lovers have been taken here have always come to argue their case to the Church. Not many, but it happens. But I bet you two are the first who actually got all the way inside.”
Linel continued, “Plus, you got thrown into prison, and yet you broke your spiritual chains, then you defeated two Integrity Knights. So we figured you were monsters…maybe even real dark knights. And it turns out you’re just ordinary humans…”
The girls looked at each other and said, “Good enough?” “Good enough.”

^ It probably means Kirito is mad at Administrator right now but at another part/volume of the light novel after all the bad things that happened to residents of the Underworld and which he’s experienced:
…If my hand could reach Seijirou Kikuoka or any of the other managers right now, I might actually attempt to strangle them to death. Such was the helpless rage I felt as I slammed my left fist against the marble table…

  2. I was disappointed that they didn’t have more Integrity knights to fight when they got to this level and I don’t think this knight was as good as the previous two knights. This one seems unhinged and not confidend in their own power which is odd for the knights since they have no sense of their past…Where would she have learn this insecurity and how could she possibly be top tier? Wasn’t happy Kirito was on her level. Anyways…still an exciting episdoe but I might be expecting too much…

  3. I really hate how they had Kirito outsmart the kids. I mean he already knew these kids were suspicious and could have easily enough dodged the attack but instead they go the overly complicated route of Kirito being so smart that he recognized the fucking wood their scabbards were made out of and deduced the metal used to make their swords and recite a spell to cure the poison by the time they reached the next group of bad guys.

His ENTIRE plan hinged on these kids not just instantly slitting their throats after they’d been paralyzed and before Kirito’s spell had cured his poison.

      1. Even worse he let Eugeo be stabbed without poison protection. The most logical explanation is that Kirito is bugged out by Eugeo and hoped he would get killed. Sadly I would like it the other way round Eugeo is the much more interesting and enjoyable protagonist.
