「暴風大妖渦」 (Karyubudeisu)
“Charybdis”

Even though I knew what was going to happen, I was a little surprised how quickly Rimuru managed to get everything solved.

General Impressions

Before talking about anything else though, can we all take a second to appreciate how cute it was to watch Gazel talk about Rimuru as his little brother/junior? Seeing how he externally comes off as a tough fighter who rules over one of the biggest nations in the world, it says mountains about how he feels about Rimuru if he’ll openly talk about him like that with his small council. That and if you think about it I don’t think Rimuru has ever told him about his past as a human in a different world which makes the gesture all the more endearing.

Fast forwarding to the short battle with Charybdis, I was rather surprised how well the story handled ending such an insignificant battle. As one of the few battles that hasn’t had all that much impact on Rimuru, I liked how the story gave it the bare minimum when it came to the battle itself. That and I can’t imagine how boring it’d be watching everyone strike away at a giant floating monster that can weather an all out attack from an entire army. Luckily Milim took things into her own hands after Rimuru realized just who was hosting Charybdis. And by taking things into her own hands, she literally obliterated the thing with a flick of the wrist.

The big surprise though came at the end when Carrion made a surprise entrance to pick up his subordinate. As one of the major Demon Lords, you’d expect he’d have better things to do than watch from the shadows. That said, who would have thought that leader of the Beast Nation would such an easy going guy?

At the end of the day though, not much happened except Carrion’s introduction and the (quick) non-aggression treaty between him and Rimuru. Something that in all honesty I was afraid was going to come off as cheesy since the story packed all of Charybdis into a single episode. In true Tenshura fashion though the story managed to keep things nice and fun and we got to see all of our other characters get some tiem to shine in a battle that didn’t have any crazy stakes. In any case I’ll catch you guys next week where we’ll hopefully get to see an awesome new character. See you then!

  1. I still like this series (a lot), but it’s a shame that many important details have been
left out in its adaptation. The main one here is that Charybdis will never be revived
again because Rimuru “absorbed” it. So Rimuru protected the Jura forest, but also protected
any future threat from Charybdis. This is something unique that Rimuru bought to the table,
it’s been defeated before but its threat was never eliminated. Yeah, I’ll be a broken record
and say it should have been 3-4 cours.

Of course, the irony of going through all of the effort to save Phobio was kinda lost when
when his boss smashed his face into the ground. Now, Carrion should have had more screen
time – did he watch the whole battle? It kinda cheapened his appearance to have him
suddenly pop in just to take his underling away. Especially such an important character.

    Oh well…

  2. I was kind of surprised myself with how easily this battle with the Charybdis went. These beast were big deal and next thing you know Rimuru leads a battle and everything was under control. Even the battle that Rimuru had with the Charybdis wasn’t too difficult compared to negotiation with different races, guilds, nations and keeping Milim in check.

  3. God the animation of this episode was the only bad thing, because if the intention of that anticlimatical end is to show the enormous difference of power between Milim and others even Rimuru does not have a method to eliminate it quickly and accurately.

I hope to see more screenshots of Milim, I think she is the sexiest anime character I have ever seen; no other female character dress the same as her.

Am surprised he is alive. Same with that dwarf captain, Milim showed serious restraint not punching him.

  5. As with others I was a bit disappointed with this episode as it felt very rushed and the threat level of the Charybdis never really felt realised. Phohio was a waste of space and screentime based on the last two episodes as nothing came of that story really. Milim – at this point – seems to be the most power being in this world…I would like to see Rimuru do a bit more to improve his power levels and take more of an interest in the team he leads as this is again another episode were he was suprised by the powers they display. Don’t get me wrong though, I am still enjoying the series but its moving way too fast and losing depth.

  6. Subs are all wrong on how the names are pronounced, it’s painful, dude’s name is Corrion not Carrion, he is the King of the beast country Yuurazania, not beastmaster of animal kingdom of eurazania. I know it’s probably not intentional but damn it sure feels like someone is making fun of his job translating this show at CR.
