「由希は俺の初恋だから」 (Yuki wa Ore no Hatsukoidakara)
“Yuki Was My First Love”

Oh man, is it finally time for Black Haru?

General Impressions

After a few weeks of really heavy and emotional episodes, it was nice to flip back to the lighter side of things. From Kyo and Yuki doing their usual arguing to the appearance of one of the crazier Somas, I’ll admit that I enjoyed not having something heavy weigh on my heart for once. Add in a bunch of super exaggerated or just pure deadpan moments from Hana and you hit the entire range of what a lighter (and funnier) episode of Fruits Basket could really be.

On the other side of things though, it was also rather interesting to see the show gently push the idea of a Yuki and Tohru relationship. Seeing how both parties are very dense when it comes to their feelings (albeit for completely different reasons), I have to hand it to Haru for pushing Tohru just far enough to get us a super cute expression out of Yuki. Man, for someone who tries to keep his cool as well as stay reserved even under the most difficult situations, I can’t wait for the day he completely loses it when Tohru drops something unexpected on him.

Besides that though, this week’s episode was rather light on content with Haru’s introduction and back story taking up a good chunk of time. Something that I thought was fairly interesting but nothing to write home about (minus hoping for some more Black Haru). That said, it looks like Valentine’s Day is coming next week and I can’t wait to see what that means for Tohru and friends. In any case, I’ll catch you guys next week!

  1. Is it possible to make a petition for this show to make use of background music? something to move our emotions and makes us feel like we are attached to this show.

I remember this being one of my favorite episodes but this anime so far, though I love the art, and 75% of the voice actor choices, I hate the pacing and I feel like they stuffing far too much content at an odd pace in some episodes but not so much in others, and sometimes the sounds don’t even match the animation. It annoys me, I expect more.

I think Shigure’s high school girls moment could have been delivered differently. Uhhhhhh, I like this show so much but this keeps repeating in my head. Why does the background music and the Voice acting look like they were done in 11,121 different rooms, by 2 different studios and then put together by some fanatic of some sort -.-” sometimes..

Mmmmmmmehz just my opinion though :/..

  2. Yes I agree that there is minimal OST for the background and therefore a little lackluster when comes the important scenes. But other than that the visuals make up for it and it’s amusing to see all the scenes unfold anew. What’s great is that each character gets their own introductory episode like how it was done before.

  3. I just love Hana’s voice actress 😀 I didn’t like her character in the manga, but in the anime, I really like her.
“it was also rather interesting to see the show gently push the idea of a Yuki and Tohru relationship.” Totally! But I don’t think it’s the first time the show’s doing this: there is something up with Tohru’s hat, the two of them already had several conversations which were preparing such a relationship, the ending in which Yuki watches Tohru… And Yuki also seems to have some sort of “trauma”, so right now, he seems to be the “MC” of the show and therefore a Tohru&Yuki relationship is highly likely ^^
