「藤の花の家紋の家」 (Fuji no Hana no Kamon no Ie)
“The House with the Wisteria Family Crest”

Apologies for the delay folks! Since mid-May I’ve had a mix of bad luck (health issues) and now I’m travelling through Europe (in spite of health issues) so I’m sure many of you have noticed my posts are always delayed by a few days. Bare with me. As soon as everything is back to normal, I’ll be posting on time.

That aside, this episode’s review is going to be pretty short since, in my opinion, it was essentially a filler.

Aside from Boarhead Boy’s official introduction as Hashibira Inosuke (Matsuoka Yoshitsugu), the episode was relatively easygoing. The boys weren’t thrown into a new mission and there were no impromptu encounters with demons. Actually, for a whole episode it seemed as though Tanjirou, Inosuke, and Zenitsu were fifteen year-old boys. They fought for what seemed to be no reason at all, they bickered like teenagers do, and they travelled together in spite of their differences. I think it was a nice way to introduce the dynamic. They were a tad bit annoying, as they should be at fifteen years old, but fun to watch. They’ve already settled into their distinct roles and their actions and words stay true to their distinct personalities.

Inosuke is quite the character. He’s a pretty boy and wild child always up for a challenge. He’s a little explosive though and doesn’t necessarily think things through so this might become a hurdle Tanjirou, Nezuko, and Zenitsu will have to overcome together. One challenge he won’t win though is the beauty challenge. When Chibi Nezuko came out of the box, my heart melted. Inosuke is pretty but he just can’t compare.

I’m not convinced Tanjirou is clueless when it comes to Inosuke. I know everyone assumed he misunderstood why Inosuke didn’t want to bury the dead but I think Tanjirou was using reverse psychology. Boarhead Boy is simple minded, very much like a toddler around the age of four or five. Tanjirou’s experience with being the eldest sibling might have helped him ‘manipulate’ Inosuke into contributing. After all, Inosuke does have a competitive side, and like me, if someone tells me I can’t do it because I’m a little tired, I rise to the challenge. Even if I’m wrong, Tanjirou’s cluelessness will be the weapon that keeps Inosuke’s wildness in check. If not, he’s always got the head-butting.

Well, that’s it folks! Can’t wait for next episode. Nezuko has finally shown her face and thank goodness too because I missed her.

  1. newsflash: all the newly-minted swordsmen of the Demoslayer Corps probably are 15-16 year olds
so 3 of them travelling together looks like highschool class excursion, with swords added.

  2. Man im really enjoying this show! Its nothing super deep, just a straight forward action/horror/adventure type show that seems to do everything really good!

In my humble opinion its anime of the season material!
Fantastic action, funny humor, interesting charecters and just enough intrigue to keep me wanting to know more.

And take notes CRAPPY CGI USERS! THIS is a step in the right direction for implementing cgi into 2d style animation, looks great!

  3. and Yes, Tanjiro is playing the “Leader” card very clever. your right, being the oldest Sibling he needs to “convince” their younger ones sometimes with reverse tricks, here is the same

  4. Finally, we get to see how Chibi Nezuko gets out of the box — perfectly believable!

My only complaint about the series is that I wish they had compressed some of the
earlier material so that we could’ve arrived at this point sooner. It’s a very
minor complaint, but the series has taken fun to a whole ‘nother level lately and
I wish we were here sooner. Still great animation, soundtrack, and appropriately
timed humour that fits with the story’s flow.

@MissSimplice — hope you feel better & stay healthy!

  5. Tanjiro and Zenitsu are such good boys, must be protected. This whole episode was hilarious, from the three siblings in the background, to Inosuke showing off his contortionist skills, and the other boys telling him they won’t eat with him if he is being mean.

  6. I haven’t been a fan of the show for a few episodes now. I’d say that three out of the last four episodes have been lousy. While it continues to look nice, it sounds awful and seems to be picking up bad habits from other shounen-type shows. I hope it gets back on track.

      1. For ten episodes, it was doing fine. Then, straight into the ditch. I’m worried that it’s more in need of a tow truck than a loop at this point but I’m still hopeful.

      2. Yeah its not as enjoyable as when it was just Tanjiro and Nezuko taking down demons by themselves. I would have been perfectly fine with that cause the story felt focused and wasnt hampered down stupid antics from zenitsu and boar head. Tanjiro is great just by himself and doesnt need these types of distractions
