「仮面の戦士」 (Kamen no Senshi)
“Masked Warrior”

We’re so close yet so far!

General Impressions

With a lot of other shows ending (or have already ended), I’m glad that I still have Dr.STONE to look forward to for the foreseeable future. That said, boy am I happy to see the story not miss a beat and continue on its crazy path forward to Senku and team creating something that will hopefully save Ruri’s life.

If there was something that I really enjoyed this week, it had to have been the ample use of comedy during the first half of the episode. In retrospect, it makes perfect sense that someone with no knowledge of science or how various chemicals work together could get super irrational when the thought of taking those things and using it on an individual comes up. God, I don’t know what we’d do without Kohaku and how well she represents people who are living in a post-petrification stone world. That and it’s been a long time since I saw a pee joke that I actually giggled at.

That said, all of the Kingdom of Science’s work could end up being for naught without someone other than Magma winning the Grand Bout. Luckily it looks like Senku has done a pretty good job at trying to stack the deck as much as he could in their favor. Toss in the added bonus that Kinrou’s sight issues were luckily solved, it looks like things could finish up pretty quickly. However, seeing how this is Magma we’re dealing with, I can imagine that things won’t be as simple as it seems.

Anyways, another fun episode that brought together a lot of elements that we haven’t seen in a while! With the conclusion to Kinro and Magma’s match waiting for us next week, I wonder if things will really end in the first bout. Until then though, be sure to stay safe and check out our recent Season Preview to see what shows you should be watching!

  1. Can’t put my finger on it exactly, but I really like this episode.
Maybe it was a little less silly and more believable than where they
    were getting the acid…

But, it would have been nice to have some foreshadowing that outsiders
can participate in the match rather than just “spring” it on the viewers.

Also, the guy’s openly talking about murder — don’t they have any
    laws/rules against that sorta thing?

Great watch as long as I keep my adult expectations pretty low…
Oh well, can’t have everything (but I want it anyway)! 🙂 🙂 🙂

    1. About outsiders, that’s kinda the problem. There have never been any outsiders. Until Senku showed up, the village only had two kinds of people; villagers and former villagers who had been exiled. As far as they knew, they were the only humans that existed so they never bothered to write a rule excluding outsiders nor had any reason to ever talk about such a thing.

As for Magma talking about killing Ruri, if he wins the tournament he will be the new village chief therefore he will get to make the laws/rules. Since it is such a primitive and small community I imagine they don’t really have any rules against just talking about something outside of simply making people mistrust you, actions are all that matter and he hasn’t actually done anything.

    1. I agree wholeheartedly, Magma will team up with Tsukasa. However Magma will have a hard time dealing with an Alpha male. I suspect Tsukasa isn’t going to believe anything until he confirms Senku is dead himself, so he will find out himself. However to defeat Tsukasa, Senku must win the trust of the village, and the only way to do that is to save Ruri, and Ruri to tell her tale of Senku.

  2. Honestly, if they could make Ginro into a more respectable character I think that that would improve the show greatly. Right now, he mostly just serves as a slovenly comic relief character. It does work on some level, he is humorous. I just think that they could do so much more with him.
