Yuri, yuri, and more yuri—say hello to the latest Assault Lily. Pretty much just another week of proving why forbidden love is best love, but for every moment of impatience we got a bit of depth for the chaos slowly charging in down the road. At least, I sure hope it turns into chaos.

In the vein of all good character development, nothing is complete until you get some celebratory fun and games, and helping fill in that blank this week was Yuyu’s ramune runaround. Overall nothing really stupendous compared to the typical stuff; seriously doubt anyone saw Yuyu just up and failing after unexpected circumstances ruined a good saunter through Riri’s hometown for example, or that the legion building wouldn’t be completed through a timely acquisition of Thi Mai and Tazusa (who together are further evidence that cats do whatever they want when they want). Yet for all the vanilla taste it’s hard not getting a chuckle out of Yuyu’s embarrassment, or liking the girl slowly emerge from her shell thanks to a heaping dose of cute and bubbly. It’s all “filler”, but filler with a purpose.

What sticks out to me, however, is the foreshadowing from all this downtime. Yuyu’s growing attachment to Riri is enough in of itself to hint towards significant pain and suffering later on, but when you factor in Riri’s ability effectively being one of influence and control (at least if I caught onto its potential uses correctly) it’s not difficult seeing a future situation where Riri winds up rhyming with history by getting a fellow Lily (or Lilies) killed after she gets caught out. This girl has already been shown to be inexperienced after all, and considering the legion she’s now assembled, provided with plenty of potential victims should alien battling and present and future Schutzengel pledges go sideways.

Not that we know what exactly future alien battling will involve of course, but as any prim and proper anime connoisseur can tell you, ominous end scenes never point towards anything good. I dare say next week is going to be a blast.
