「王立セレステリア」 (Ooritsu Seresuteria)
“Royal Celesteria”

Something I like about Majo no Tabitabi is that you never know whether we will be getting a depressing or wholesome episode.

There wasn’t much drama to dissect this week, because we received an extremely wholesome episode as a reprieve to heal us from two weeks of depression. After being chased by a bunch of students for an entire day, Elaina reunites with Fran at the Royal Celesteria – a peaceful city of magic with a school that looks inspired by Hogwarts. Fran set an assignment for the students to capture Elaina in what could be described as a mock game – a task which they fail.

Nevertheless, Elaina chooses to serve as a guest lecturer – allowing her to spend some more time with Fran and the students. She helps out female students who are struggling with magic. And fights off horny male students, swatting away their attempts at expressing affection. But as a traveler, she was always going to move on. Even though her life at the Royal Celesteria was comfortable, she chooses to continue chasing her dreams without any trace of hesitation.

If there was one point of fascination, this episode implies that Nike is actually Elaina’s mother, on top of the fact that Fran was once her student. I actually suspected this near the start – because it was a plausible explanation for why a powerful witch like Fran would easily acquiesce to such a random request. Nevertheless, I would prefer if this relation (of having a powerful witch for a mother) had no proper influence on Elaina’s future journeys. She is her own character who is striving to be independently free-spirited, and I would hate to see any excessive Deus Ex Machina develop in this story that would give her an easy out from difficult scenarios.

Anyway, that was about everything I wanted to discuss. As always, thanks for reading this post and see you all next week!

    1. Yeah, I’m going to send out my under-powered students to “capture” this
OP witch and not disclose to said witch that it me (her old teacher) who’s
looking for her. But it’s okay, my students are expendable she won’t harm my
students in self defense (I think).

I mean, you kinda knew how the chase would turn out, but it’s a sol Anime…

Let’s see if there’s a dark episode next week.

  1. While it is already implied that Nike might be Elaina’s mother, I wonder why the need for all the secrecy? Could it be that Elaina’s mother was already setting up the whole sequence of events that charted her daughter to be the next traveling witch? Or does she have other reasons of allowing Elaina to follow this path. Of course this is just overthinking things, but this series can be surprising at times. I do hope that once the time comes to reveal everything to Elaina, it would be one epic episode.

    1. I think it was in order not to encourage that behavior. The mom is purposely living without showcasing her reputation, and they obviously don’t want to pressure Elaina to go on a dangerous and lonely trip.

But since she wanted to do it anyway, better to treat it as her own choice than saying “she’s just like her mother”.

      1. I dunno, they are definitely setting up Nike being Elaina’s mother, but so far everything we know about Elaina’s mother (which is not much) looks like she gave up being a witch and settled down with Elaina’s father.

Contacting Fran to teach Elaina only makes sense if either she is not a witch anymore, or she is hiding she is a witch.

If Nike is Elaina’s mother, then the only people who would know from what is shown so far is Elaina’s mother and Fran, in which case it’s not much of a “she’s just like her mother” and more of a “what a weird witch who likes to travel”.
