「ツバキ」 (Tsubaki)
“Camellia”

While I’m fairly confident I’ll wind up forgetting about Assault Lily the moment it’s over, I’ll be damned it’s doing a good job of retaining my attention until the end. Thigh highs and yuri sandwiches sure, but the secret behind synthetic Lilies and what it means for the rest of this cutie pie cast is something I want to know. After all, pet theories exist to be proven right, and I’m here to collect my dues.

Getting the obvious out the way, yes there was always going to be a twist of this calibre, even if (at least for me right now) it’s a little short of the desired goal. Yuri being a construct or a fake was teased pretty well last time, and having it confirmed pretty much seals the deal that there’s more to Lilies and Huge overall than the academy and its director are willing to let on. Make no mistake, there’s no guarantee of some climactic shocker showing the likes of Riri and Yuyu to be the spawn of freaky balls with claws, but do I wish for something like that? Oh darling yes I do. We’ll know soon enough what’s up though given the foreshadowing teaser at the end; when you’re getting fangirl Kaede to go against the will of her one and only, best be sure there’s trouble (and tasty reveals) on the horizon.

Otherwise for Assault Lily it was largely more tried and true. Besides the fun which comes from yuri being shoved in your face at every opportunity (is that a problem? Didn’t think so), I quite liked how the mandatory festival material was largely condensed and glossed through. Everything from weird games to comedic timing and the always essential growth and overcoming struggle was covered nicely – and there was even room for yuri-laced shenanigans (quite literally in one instance) to help keep things above water. Don’t forget the talk on voyeurism either, I can neither confirm or deny I might’ve choked with laughter when the confusion over that came out. Assault Lily may have its share of problems, but at least it knows how to make the most of the material on display.

It’s just a question how well said skill translates into the climax now fast approaching.

  1. Considering what’s been revealed so far, I doubt there’ll be a dramatic reveal about our protagonists. XD
That said, if the Huge contains the DNA of everything on earth, Yuri’s origin actually makes sense. Just filter everything out and voila! (Talk is cheap. :P) It does imply that the requirement to using their powers is being a human female though.

Speaking about remembering, props to anyone that can remember every character in this episode. That was near impossible to keep track. Personally, even have trouble recognizing Yujia with her hair loose.
