「 大間々岬の冬」 (Omama Misaki no Fuyu)
“Cape Ohmama in Winter”

Continuing from the last episode, this week’s Yuru Camp gives us a deeper dive into the girls’ trip to Cape Ohmama. But when they realize that Lake Yamanaka can get unbearably cold, that’s when they’ll have to settle in with some new company in order to survive.

The main takeaway from the girls’ trip to Lake Yamanaka is that it can be best enjoyed if you have some equipment prepped up in advance to endure the harsh temperatures. While the girls were settling into camp, the creeping dread came in when they noticed that the darker it got, the lower the temperature dropped.

They had a hard time flexing about camping when they had to preserve the battery life on their phones to prevent it from draining so quickly. They were able to spend some time adjusting their seating options and making a hot buttered rum cow to warm up, but even they had to throw in the towel soon or else they’ll freeze.

Thankfully, they were able to make friends with an older duo who turned out to have a larger set-up in their tent for keeping themselves warm. They were a pretty nice addition to the cast with their penchant for Sake, the father’s Seaplane hobby, and their adorable corgi named Ochoko, or Choko for short. Even if the last episode was where the girls could get the most out of Lake Yamanaka, they still managed to get some good food from the two like the Motsu hot pot and make up for lost time by camping with Minami-sensei once she regrouped with the party for more Sake.

The next episode has some exciting developments though because Nadeshiko is planning to go solo camping. With how much the anime has been building up to Nadeshiko mirroring what Rin does to get a better appreciation of the solitary feeling that comes from camping alone, it’ll be interesting to see how she fares with solo camping.

  1. The takeaway feels like it’s more than just about having the right equipment: it’s about being more prepared overall (from doing the research about weather and equipment, to properly caring for and using the equipment).

Aoi herself said it best in this episode: they’d gotten a little too complacent and underestimated the winter. It’s a good direction for Yuru Camp to take, since it shows that the anime is committed to showing both the fun and hard sides about camping.

  2. It’s not particularly important, but the two in the tent aren’t married; they’re father and daughter. You can see this in the credits where they’re listed as “Iida-san” and “Iida-san’s daughter”.

    1. Thanks for clarifying! There weren’t many lines they gave to each other that alluded to their relationship, so I drew the wrong conclusions. Corrected the few mistakes in the verbiage that made them seem like a couple.
