「 暴走」 (Bousou)
“Rampage”

While Episode 05 of Kinsou no Vermeil gives Alto a little more off-time to hang out with Vermeil and Lilia, there’s a storm brewing as Professor Obsidian sees his chance to corrupt Alto’s familiar with the same serum that made Rex go aggro. With this episode setting the stage for a difficult battle Alto faces to snap Vermeil out of her rage, there won’t be too much to work with until the next ep.

STRANGE BREW

There isn’t a lot to say about the episode considering how many of its more profound developments are tied to Professor Obsidian and the effects of his mana experiments. Previously, we saw him trapping girls in a frozen haze, and, as it turns out, he looks to be responsible for Rex going haywire.

Vermeil was able to detect it, but one character I can see throwing a wrench in things would be Elena Kimberlight, who quickly caught onto the idea that Vermeil knows something that she really doesn’t want other people to know. It’s hard to gauge how many folks caught onto the fact that Vermeil is a demon when it’s made out to be strange that Alto’s familiar looks like a person while everyone else has beasts and dragons. But based on Elena’s own intuition and how she’ll be forced to hold her own against a mysterious cluster of paper dolls, there’s more than meets the eye for the Student Council president.

Can’t say that I thought that Obsidian was going to let his guard down and jump right into his master plan of stabbing Vermeil with the experimental rage serum. It gave us Beast Form Vermeil, who’s still as well endowed as always. But he really did get lost in the sauce, despite Vermeil’s warnings that he shouldn’t get lost in the sauce if he’s controlling low-tier demonic energy.

I can only describe it as Professor Obsidian getting lost in the sauce because he is risking immediate failure by giving a demon the serum that he’d only tried out on mages up until now. He got too cocky and, in true DIO fashion, he almost immediately blows his cover once he sees an opening to be a show-off. Part of me wonders if Vermeil is still going to be conscious enough of her own actions to honor her promise that she’d fight Obsidian if he tries to hurt Alto, but that looks to be a question that the next episode should be able to answer for us.

  1. I don’t know what Professor Obsidian gain is to make vermeil go loco Succubi. As a member of the school’s faculty it’s Professor Obsidian‘s duty is to ensure the students get the best education. Professor Obsidian exists just to be a house fly that Vermeil and Alto swats.

  2. That’s…. interesting.
I assume that thru some collaboration with lower level (than Vermeil, that is) demonic entity , professor Obsidian obtained serum capable of enhancing someone’s mana output at the cost of the poor individual eventually collapsing into coma as they exhaust their mana pool.
It surprised me that the showdown happened so fast, I expected buildup with few more low level students getting the short end before Professor got uncovered and cornered.
Instead, he jumped at the oportunity to gain control of Vermeil, which shows that man is either supremely ambitious, or supremely stupid – or probably both.
In the end he seems to be destined to become disk 1 boss, marking halfway of the season. What lies further ahead we can only guess…
Whatever the outcome of battle coming, I think it will be hard to hide Vermeil’s true nature from everyone anymore…
