「マニーは天下の回りもの」 (Manī wa Tenka no Mawari Mono)
“Money Makes the World Go Round”

Unfortunately, I’m not entirely sold on Natsumi (Emori, Aya). I’m not entirely hawked on her character, I don’t dislike her, however, her motives are not exactly pure either. Her wanting to team up with Leilla so that she could get some more content for her youtube channel is kind of despicable in my book. Good thing she was called out on it, and in the same episode no less. I love that Kanon is still super shy about being on camera, and the little Mario Party play session they had together was all but too cute to watch!

Maybe the next episode will provide some context into what is actually going on with Natsumi because for now, her introduction and the way they have tried to make us empathize with her, is simply not doing it for me. Yes, I do get the fact they are hinting that she might be living alone and has to go through school, meanwhile doing odd part-time jobs so that she can get money to live. She doesn’t have it easy that’s for sure, however, her power-hungry attitude is just not cutting it for me. Even though Shiki and Mei also have personalities that I might not vibe with, they are much more enjoyable to watch. And having Natsumi being properly introduced so late in the game makes her somewhat of a black sheep for me.

This episode in a sense was all about her, as it saw her being introduced into the group, but it did nothing to win me over, all she cares about is money, which is understandable, but also not very likable. She has a selfish attitude and doesn’t seem to care for others too much. In fact, when they confront her, she scurries away. Maybe once again I’m asking way too much from a 2D anime.

What can I say? It’s not bad or anything, in fact, I’m quite enjoying the writing, just that her personality doesn’t really vibe with me, even though they did try and make her relatable by giving her the struggles she has to accomplish. It’s going to be interesting to see how she has to deal with those things she has going on in the next episode since summer vacation is about to start, and the girls are separating into two groups. The senpais are doing their own thing, meanwhile, the kohais seem like they are about to go and train at a log cabin resort or something like that, hopefully, nothing bad happens, and they all get to roast marshmallows while telling scary stories to one another at the light of the campfire.

Hopefully, we get to see some character development, get to understand the reason why Natsumi is the way she is, and what the hell are her real intentions. I know she wants to make money, but just wanting to make money makes for a dull character (IMO). Think UrarakThere’s always something deeper, whether it has to do with the backstory or some hidden deeper intentions that have yet to come to the surface. Hopefully, Natsumi grows a little bit on me and we get to know her much better, here’s hoping.
