「私を叶える物語」 (Watashi o Kanaeru Monogatari)
“A Story That Makes My Dreams Come True”

Umm excuse me, yes, hello? Did we just goking get baited into a whole emotional buildup, just for them to bait and switch us at the last minute and change the plotline out of spite, or just plain evil? From my understanding, apparently, Wien is now going to become part of Leilla or something. Wien shows up at the last minute pulling out the hardest deux ex machina, and telling Kanon that apparently no, they won’t be studying abroad, but instead, Wien’s father has decided for her to remain in Japan, making her part of Leilla, or at least part of the school program. Is she to become a separate act somehow connected to Leilla? Or she’s just going to do whatever she wants as a solo act? Whatever the case, they certainly have their own agenda because I was already envisioning Kanon happily scouring around the city of Vienna as she finds inspiration from the castle rock towers, the city square surrounded by nothing but secular buildings with gothic chapels for her to peruse through.

But that’s me – however, they’re decisions; Liella is sure to be surprised as all of them had their emotional goodbyes and even cried a little tear or two because they’re going to miss their friend so much, and now all of that is out the window because nothing actually mattered as Kanon was never actually going to go abroad.

Even though this was very much a casual watch, I still got invested in the characters and want them to go through natural arcs of story progression, however, pulling the rug under us and revealing ‘surprise’, is not exactly what I would call good writing. This was certainly fun, but very much just casually going along with whatever was happening in the story. I like, however, that there was a story to follow – and those that wanted could easily get invested in its characters and drama.

It’s like I have woken up from a very long dream, and have finally realized what existence was like.

That is not to say I did not like the series, I very much did and appreciated the songs and story – but let’s talk about the final choice of song. As a first impression; it was very much slower paced and not what I was expecting at all, I would always rather the songs be high energy than this sort of ballad, but beggars can’t be choosers. So on that note, I still liked the song, it’s just I don’t listen to that type of music, so I’m not accustomed to it, that’s all. However, upon further listening, I can say that the song describes Leilla as a whole perfectly, and it’s their Superstar culmination that makes it all worth it! This was their Love Live no doubt about it.

If I were to listen to it again, it would probably grow on me even more, but I was expecting a big drop in melody and it just never came, it’s not disappointment levels of bad, but just I wish it had been something different, we are talking about the final episode of S2 here. So why not go out with a bang? Again not bad – just something different from what I was expecting, all be it I was pleasantly surprised.

It would have been cheap to just repeat the OP, although for sure a cool moment, but maybe a remix of it, or something that could have been teased slowly in the musical BG’s of the show, and then it would all come together at the end or something – I’m rambling here. The point was we needed something a little bit more upbeat, of course, in my opinion, however, this was fine also.

So yeah – that was pretty much it! As some closing thoughts, the animation was always on point, the character models looked sharp, and there was never a point where quality went not beyond what it had originally intended. The songs were also incredible, and I think some of the best the series has yet to offer. This one is my favorite.

So three cheers for Love Live Superstar for ending its S2 successfully! And here are three more cheers for some more content this way come!

  1. Well… they’re evil and no bang because it’s not the last episode. >_<

They rushed the finals IMHO. I think one more episode would be good for pacing.

I think the switch hit me harder than most because I couldn't watch it until today. On previous days, I read an article on ANN that the production company is looking for one more cast member. I was expecting a third season and Kanon going to Vienna. It makes sense to get a replacement.

At least the show isn't predictable.

Last note: Wien came from Wien. Just noticed that.

    1. On the other side, I’m glad Kanon is staying in Japan, but also it felt like they just pulled the rug under us. haha that part was more like a bit rather than anything else. xD But yeah the finals did really feel rushed, and I would have very much liked for them to have shown the other competitors, but instead, we were dicking around with emotional goodbyes. I guess it’s also okay?
