「闇に射す月光」 (Yami ni Sasu Gekkou)
“Moonlight That Pierces the Darkness”
If there’s one thing to say about Eminence in Shadow even at this late stage is every week sure is an adventure. Sure, comedy and the near-infinite fun of Cid doing Cid things are a given, but providing a relatively lax episode when things are clearly heating up is an interesting idea – even if it’s Eminence in Shadow’s idea of lax. Don’t mistake laidback for boring though; best be sure the upcoming fighting will make up for the prelude.
While just a tad annoyed at myself that I heard wrong and pinned Alexia’s and Iris’ father as the target of Mr. Asshat’s machinations (nope, still not used to the name) when instead it was Rose’s father all along, it does lead to certain things both making sense and predicting the next story movements. Pretty obvious for one that the whole idea this situation was to eliminate Rose given her rambunctious knightly desires, and that doing so would unlock better ways of, well, doing whatever the Cult is getting up to on that side of the world. Outside of demonic pill popping we don’t really have any further insights on immediate Cult objectives (Cid’s imagination has kept quiet of late) so this little plot is very likely to start revealing more. Particularly that secretive yet totally demon-related implant our drill tailed blondie is rocking at the moment.
As for the Shadow Garden side of things, yeah, I think the results speak for themselves. Besides Cid further perfecting the art of maniacal mastermind, there were some fun bits with him showing his awareness of wannabe friends and loyal subordinates both. Really got a chuckle out of how he was fully in the know about Epsilon’s personal enhancements, and also his nonchalant tossing of a compliment because she happened to like the kid’s favourite piano piece (even if she’s a filthy plagiarist, heh). Also the pure distilled entertainment of doing what he could to avoid big sister – only to forget big sister is disciplined enough to wait all day. Yes, the fact they kept what came next off camera makes the moment more hilarious. I don’t think I ever will stop enjoying how well this series makes its humour work.
Just have to see what variety pops up once Rose gets to round two with her ex-fiancé.
