「Chapter.37 奔流 / Chapter.38 経る時」 (Chapter.37 Honryuu / Chapter.38 Herutoki)
“Chapter.37 Torrent / Chapter.38 Passing Time”

This show just won’t ease up on the feels, my goodness.

Treading Through Life

At this point I can’t help but say that Hayashida-sensei is my spirit animal. He’s a fairly young adult trying to live in real world and is full of knowledge and experiences that I also wish I could have utilized when I was younger. He’s full of regrets that stem from his laziness as an adolescent and he’s just trying his best to be the best he can be at what he’s currently doing. For some of you, this might have felt like a melodramatic moment between a teacher and a student, and that’s totally fine. But for me, especially since I’m kind of floating around the same state as Hayashida-sensei, I got hit with such a huge wave of emotions that I couldn’t tell if it was the show or my eyes that were getting all blurry on me. Thinking about all the things I did and didn’t do combined with that pang of jealously you feel when you see your more successful peers and if I remember correctly I had to pause the show for a second to recompose myself.

Honestly, there are a ton of things I wish I could have done differently when I was younger to put me in a better position that I’m currently in. But as they say, hindsight is 20/20 and I don’t think I’d ever be willing to trade my experiences and hardships for a redo. If anything, I hope I can be like Hayashida-sensei in the sense that I can pass along whatever useful tidbits of knowledge I have to a younger generation.

The Lion King Tournament

Man, as if the episode wasn’t somber enough who would have thought the story would have taken such a dark turn for Shimada? With his pride on the line and the hopes of being able to compete in his hometown, it was really sad to discover that there’s a chance that he may not even have the opportunity to compete there. And the worst part of it all is that as much as I’d love for Shimada to make a reverse sweep somehow, it looks like his opponent is the true definition of a monster.

Looking Ahead

Man, things have been feeling pretty down recently haven’t they? Shimada is on the verge of losing the Lion King Tournament before even making it to his hometown, Rei is stuck in a rut, Kyouko is struggling to figure out what to do with her life, and our three sisters are stuck in the void worrying about Rei while trying to make their own ends meet. I guess the one saving grace is that we still have a ton of episodes left before anything comes to a close and hopefully we’ll get to see some bright happy sunny moments. See you then!

  1. Man, everytime I watch an episode or read a chapter, I always think of that piano theme from Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso. It’s quiet, flowing like a river, and its melancholy tone really fits Sangatsu no Lion.
