「ビフォーアフターの時間」 (Bifooafutaa no Jikan)
“Before and After Time”

After a few weeks of pretty happy episodes, this week’s makes a shift toward the slightly darker reality that comes with training people to become elite assassins.

With Great Power Comes Great..

If there’s one thing I love about Assclass, it’s the moments when the show isn’t afraid to dive down into the nitty gritty when it comes to the pretty ridiculous situation Koro-sensei has put everyone into. And when it comes to becoming trained assassins, there are definitely some growing pains that come with the territory. In this week’s case, I can’t help but believe that something like this was bound to happen with just how quickly E class has been advancing. With constant success in their minds and the eagerness to improve as quickly possible, it was probably only a matter of time for some collateral damage to occur. Sure, Karasuma-sensei may have been handling things from the shadows, but I doubt he wouldn’t talk to the class if they had been doing something incorrectly.

And like most plot points involving great power, we had a fun episode based around the class discovering just what kind of responsibility comes with the territory. While it shouldn’t be too surprising to see how amazing the class can be when their powers are collectively used for a single goal, it still felt good to see them doing something great for someone besides themselves.

Looking Ahead

Besides that though, it looks like not much else happened this week. Which in all honesty isn’t that bad since of just how important this episode ended up being. Between watching Koro-sensei actually physically reprimanding his students to a bunch of new equipment being revealed, it looks like the upcoming weeks should have a solid footing to jump off from.

That said, I wouldn’t mind if the series started getting more serious from here on out. With a rather ominous start and end to this week’s episode, I can’t help but hope that things will quickly start sliding toward the even darker side as we get closer to the truth behind Koro-sensei and his mysterious past.

In any case, I’ll catch you guys back here next week. See you!

  1. For me, this is my favourite episode of the second season thus far. I really liked Nagisa’s analogy regarding the tree and school, and how everyone chipped in to make improvements to the place and entertain the kids.

The little bits of foreshadowing also got me hyped up for the upcoming episodes…dat endcard…
