「暑い夏だ! アホガール」 (Atsui Natsu Da! Aho Girl)
“A Hot Summer! Aho Girl”
Much like the month of August, this episode of Aho Girl is bringing its Summer vacation to a close. Before the Back to School sales occur, however, Yoshiko and the gang still have beaches, public bathes, and festivals to terrorize. I’d say of the Summer episodes, this one’s the funniest with the Public Morals girl bringing the laughs for the first two segments. Seeing how she reacts to Yoshiko trying to embarrass her in front of Akuru by molding her into a well-endowed sandwoman and an obscenely hung sandman was a funny gag. It was great when she was worried that she’d start channeling the feelings from her sand penis if Akuru directly took it apart. I also liked how the hot springs part showed the Public Morals girl go between acting normally and letting her desperation for Akuru take hold. The tug-of-war she has on whether she wants to reveal the mystery of whether his penis size is the same as it was when he was younger took a little time and convincing, and I appreciate that since it doesn’t completely warp her into an obsessive stalker like the previous episodes did. She’s still curious about what his penis looks like now, but her id’s temptation to actually see it was enabled by Yoshiko’s impulses.
The cutest segment was the one where Akuru finds himself saddled with taking care of Yoshiko’s favorite dog. It was sweet to see Akuru finally find someone that he could share a two-sided bond with, even if it is a massive dog. For the most part, we’ve seen Akuru either fed up with everyone around him, or trying to be possessive of his little sister, but the dog is the first character that shares his same love for classic cinema, and understands him all too well. The goofs do come from his icy heart melting over the dog, but I can’t help but think about Sayaka pitying how Akuru’s cold, aloof demeanor pushes so many people away that he needs to have the friends he has as his lifeline. There’s no mistaking that he loathes almost everyone around him, but I like how the dog segment humanizes him a little more by giving him a heart-to-heart with Yoshiko’s dog.
What does the episode good is that a lot of the hijinks Yoshiko was responsible for were really funny. The sandy torment she dished out to the Public Morals girl, her impulse to peep over at the men’s side of the hot springs to check Akuru out, the fact that she completely left her grandparents house mid-vacation to see how Akuru is faring with her dog, and the ending festival were all great. The last one was wonderful because it shows that she enjoys getting on other people’s nerves than Akuru too as the Neighborhood Association in charge of the festival are deeply pissed about how she outdances them every year. Oddly enough, Yoshiko looked very attractive in this episode in her bathing suit and her out-of-place carnival outfit, but what can you do? Yoshie and Ryuuichi were underutilized in their small cameos, and their fight didn’t have much of a payoff to it. I thought Yoshie would have more of a presence in the episode. Still, it was a refreshing episode that fit in well with the season, and gave us a nice Summer romp before the season ended.

The bromance is strong on this one. It’s sad to know that our titular Aho Girl will never achieve anything close to this with A-kun

And as I stated last episode, I express this wise words once again:
“Never fight an Idiot! He/She will bring you down into his/her level and beat you with experience!”
I may be laughing too hard at this but the first half of this episode’s comedy may have just surpassed Seitokai Yakuindomo on my Anime list for some reason lol
Also, that dog part can be made into a movie in itself haha
There were many moments in this episode that were on-par with some of my favorite anime comedies. To me, it was reminiscent of how fun the beach episode from Gabriel Dropout was.
Only complaint is that in the manga, the dog and Akuru got to bro it out for longer (probably a day longer). In the anime, it’s as if Yoshiko immediately left her grandparents’ house.
It’d be nice for the show to try to add more of the bromance between Akuru and the dog. Hopefully maybe include some of the parts they missed from it.

It was also nice that they didn’t have Akuru automatically bean BOTH of their faces in and showed he had the sense to only do it to Yoshiko (obviously expecting it), but was far more lenient and understanding(?) towards Public Morals Girl (wonder if we’ll ever get a name, lol).
That was another nice thing about Akuru this episode. He’s not beyond wacking everyone around him, but he gave the Public Morals Girl the benefit of the doubt and spared her from that. I’m hoping by the end of the show they’ll finally give us her name.

The moment you realize that every other characters in this manga/anime pale in comparison to this one dog. Animagus confirmed?
