「天使の涙」 (Tenshi no Namida)
“An Angel’s Tears”

The end is nigh. I’m pretty sure a conclusion to this arc awaits us in the future two or three episodes. There is hardly any time left for comedy, nearly no irrelevant dialogues at all – today’s episode featured battles and plot driven speeches, and that’s all! I do think things are going too fast now, and it makes me wonder why some episodes were wasted on trivial characters such as the Jiggle Butt Gang instead of the main story of this arc.

Gray’s battle was the main event of this episode, and to be honest – while I do understand that the season is near its ending and this arc must reach a conclusion, I think the planning could’ve been better. The battle between Gray and Angel seemed too easy, and things went too fast. Last time Gray faced this woman, he was teamed up with Freed which didn’t seem like a bad combination at all (compared to the other teams Cana put together). I remember Dan was there too, and the three of them lost quite badly. Also, Angel didn’t show any signs of being in pain while summoning her angels last time. And now, all of sudden, everything was just too easy.

Aside from the pacing, and sudden change in powers, the battle itself was really enjoyable and it reminded me a lot of Gray’s battle against Juvia during the Phantom Lord arc. Both Juvia and Angel are masochistic women in very different ways; both were saved by Gray. Now all that’s missing is Angel falling in love with Gray, and then we’ll have yet another rival for Juvia, but also, a copy of her. Unlike Juvia’s powers though, Angel’s magic consumes her vitality – something she finds joy in as she naïvely believes that by using this magic, she will die and become a real angel who can be united with the deity she loves.

Gray (with some help from Dan) did a great job revealing the ugly side of Angel’s magic and managed to save her, so now, only three of the Oración Seis remain – Brain II, Imitatia, and Cobra. The latter is currently facing Erza. Their battle could be seen for a short moment in today’s episode, but very little happened. I assume the two of them will have a proper duel next week which I’m looking forward to very much. Kinana was seen in the preview so we might see what happens when the Dragon Slayer is reunited with his pet. Speaking of Dragon Slayer; Cobra isn’t a real Dragon Slayer, but he has the magic of one, yet he hasn’t used that in this arc yet. We’ve only seem him relying on sound, so this makes me wonder, did he lose his magic? Is this somewhat related to Kinana? And if it is, will he regain his old powers when and if he is reunited with her? I guess we’ll have to wait for next week to find out!

  1. I do agree in a sense that this episode felt a little rushed, Gray did a great job fighting her, and blasting that demonic angel, that made my day. In the end, pretty exciting episode.

On a side note: I think the reason Angel didn’t feel any pain the first time she summoned her angels was like in this episode, when Gray would defeat one of her angel summonings or when he made her enraged, it looked like that was the start of the pain, so maybe those angels store her life in them or maybe she has used angel magic for a while and so the effects start to appear after consecutive uses and draining her life.

    I completely agree.

      1. Well, not to be mean. But, you must be blind for not to see this conclusion. Just see the Last Pictures. Hero save a Girl. Girl has the “touching” Eyes or looking on her Face.. You can see that good on the Last Pictures of her…

I just wrote what I think would make Angel a copy of Juvia. This is just an assumption, not a fact, so it’s not a spoiler. Apologies for the misleading line.

      1. Manga spoilers:

The manga itself recently had a panel that spoiled something in this anime for me:

  3. Strangely i have a feeling that the Infinite clock and the seal are just a part of a bigger plot like the old Oracion Seis episode (Brain becoming Master zero), they want to destroy the seal to unlock something big maybe a big monster like they show in Ep 147 Time 21:25 – 21:26?

Well anyway am pretty sure it just my imagination that want a more fierce opponent for Fairy Tail.

  4. It would have been better if Angel said that she didn’t want to disappear, she’ll summon Caelum to get rid of the Angel. Since she’s also a Celestial Spirit mage, and this arc kinda involves her… magic.

  5. I don’t think Angel will fall in love with Gray since Dan was also there to save her. And Gray’s ice attack wiped the floor (literally) against that blob of flesh. Plus, it looks like Lucy is starting to be absorbed by the Infinity Castle before the Oracion Seis are all defeated. Natsu and Erza better pick up the pace.

  6. No offense, but Grangel/AngelRay is a BAD couple,
because Gray already has a lot of couples like Graylu, Gruvia, Grayza.(i prefer Graylu though) and even MOST of the rpc of fairy tail choose to be a gray couple..
soo.. adding a new couple for gray is making it difficult! Angel is better with midnight, Dan, Racer, and etc.

Again : NO OFFENSE FOR GRANGEL/ANGELRAY LOVERS… but seriously guys.. stick with the old couples.. like Graylu etc.
