「明日もおいしいイカと里芋の煮物」 (Ashitamo Oishi Ika to Taro no Nimono)
“Squid and Taro Stew That’s Still Yummy Tomorrow”
I knew it was coming. After a few weeks without seeing Tsumugi’s mom, this week’s moment hit extra hard even though I knew it was coming.
Momma Is Always There
I’ve tried about ten times to write this paragraph and keep getting all worked up before I can finish it. I’m not necessarily an emotional fellow, but thinking about living life without one of my parents breaks me down so quickly that it’s amazing I’m even able to watch a show like Amaama and the fantastically evil way it uses Tsumugi’s mom. Reminding us that she still lives on in Kouhei and Tsumugi’s heart, I can’t help but get emotional whenever she appears. Whether that’s a flashback from Kouhei’s perspective about just how much he misses her or Tsumugi remembering a precious gift that she gave to her, it never fails to amazing me just how effective it is on me.
Anyways, getting back on topic, I loved the solution Kouhei found to Tsumugi’s bag problem. Not letting the stain get the better of him, I thought it was pretty smart how he concocted the perfect plan to combine his love with his wife’s to give Tsumugi the perfect present. Because as smart and cool as it was for something as small as this, it gives me hope the story might tackle something a bit bigger before the series ends. Because if it can do something this awesome with something as simple as a bag, imagine just how far you could extrapolate the feels!?
Not wanting to let it end there though, the story picked things back up on the Mom front with Tsumugi requesting a dish that her mom used to make. And as much as I wanted this moment to be something where Tsumugi would connect with her mom, I never thought it would be a moment where we’d see Kouhei get some good vibes. Thinking about it in retrospect though, it makes perfect sense just how powerful this moment would be for him. Getting to taste a dish his wife used to make often and getting to see the smile of Tsumugi remembering it, it’s actually quite something he didn’t break out in tears. If anything, I guess it goes to show you just how strong a plain looking guy like Kouhei really is.
Looking Ahead
With my emotions a little beat up after this week’s episode, it looks like we won’t get any rest with an explanation behind Kotori’s trauma coming up soon. She hasn’t really had much focus since the gyoza party episode and I’d love for her to get some more development as she is part of the main trio.
In any case, I’ll catch you guys next week where I’ll have some tissues and a little bit of water ready before I start the episode. See you then!
Even if this doesn’t have the most epic story or deep plot, amazing visuals or whatever I think this is definitely going to be my favorite anime this year. Can’t help but have a smile on my face from beginning to end!

So cute how worried Kotori is about Kouhei.

Seriously, who can’t smile when seeing moments like this?

And now Mikio the meanie has a crush on Tsumugi, lol.

“I almost had an epiphany.” lol, to know what an epiphany is at her age? Such an advanced kid that Tsumugi.
Takaii why are you almost completely ignoring everything Kotori in your posts? I’m not a big shipper, but this show gives me some small “Love so Life” vibes and it’s one of the reasons I like it.
To be fair, the show itself is somewhat toning down some of the romantic vibes, at least for now. For example, the previous episode was based on the first half of a chapter with the biggest ship tease moment in the not-shown-on-TV second half: Show Spoiler ▼
Nothing intentional, just haven’t felt that the story (or Kotori) have been really pushing on that front. Coming off a super great ride of 닥터스 (a K-Drama), I feel like Kotori is kind of like Hye Jung during the past. She shoots looks at Kouhei sure, but I don’t really think the show is hinting at anything (at least yet). If the writers amp up the romance aspect or it becomes more of a thing, sure I’ll talk about it
Also, Kouhei wife ftw
