「生かす時間」 (Ikasu Jikan)
“Let Live Time”

Well, I didn’t see that one coming. Good on you Assclass for misdirecting our attention and hitting us with a real good sucker punch.

Principal Asano

Well, I never thought we’d ever see a calmer and softer side of our intense principal. But, I guess when you really think about it, with such a stinky personality as his there must have been a pretty serious experience that turned him into the beast that he is. And if we’re talking from the perspective of an educator who takes his job too seriously (I mean that in the most respectful way possible), seeing his style of teaching be a factor in the death of one of his favorite students was probably more crippling than what we saw on screen. I mean, even in his early days I doubt there was much that could phase Principal Asano. But after seeing the look on his face when he discovered Ikeda committed suicide and the subsequent rage filled antics afterwards, it’s a damn shame such a great educator had such a sudden shift to his teaching philosophies. But, when it comes to Principal Asano, I suppose you could say he’s had this all-or-nothing attitude since we first met him. Teaching, parenting, assassinating – he always gives it his all.

Anyways, once you have a little context behind it all, his style of educating doesn’t seem all that bad. Essentially changing how he views the words “strong” and “strength”, how can you fault someone for wanting their students to be capable of handling the cruelty of the real world? Especially when that someone believes his lack of teaching “strength” led to one of his student’s death?

Luckily, it looks like we’ll get to see a more reasonable Principal Asano in the future. Seeing how he managed to hold a rather chummy conversation with his son for once, things are looking pretty positive!

Some Extracurriculars and Looking Ahead

With a majority of the story focusing on Principal Asano and subsequently Koro-sensei, the second half felt rather weak and a little rushed. It was nice I suppose to get a break from the heavy topics from the first half, but what I’m more excited about is the notion that the story may finally be diving into the heavier stuff. Seeing how we got some context behind Principal Asano, I’m really hoping we get some insight behind Koro-sensei soon. Because after 13 episodes of this lackluster pace, I can’t wait for something really big to happen. That and with Asano and his dad hopefully taking a break from pestering E Class, we’re going to need some new bad guys!

Hopefully Principal Asano’s little prediction at the end won’t be all fluff. See you next week!

P.S. With the new season starting soon, I really hope we get a new opening that has the class jumping. Because as much as I like this opening sequence, the two from last season were freaking bomb.

  1. The next episode will be interesting for anyone that hasn’t read the manga already. You see a certain student is hiding something from everyone and has an agenda of their own.

  2. I have to give credit to this author, they really handled Principle Asano’s characterization well. He was always an antagonist but he was never truly a villain or bad guy, and the shift has made him way more likeable, especially in the future in whats left of the story.

    1. Yes, he was never a villain, but the writing was so good that we never had the chance to fully acknowledge that.

The signs were all there though. Remember who fired Takaoka-sensei in the first season. Also, remember how he never recurred to unfair methods against E-class, there were no tricks during exams like letting some answers leak to A-class students, the results were not altered, the E-class students were never disturbed to slow down their study progress, etc.
Yet we couldn’t help but think he _might_ be a villain, maybe even the villain. We even commented that he fired Takaoka to make everyone know who’s the real deal. I’m amused 🙂

This story is full of what you see is different from what it is. I’m looking forward for more.
