I may have had some issues with the direction of later episodes, but this was absolutely the ending Fune wo Amu needed.

It would be unfair to label these recent episodes of Fune wo Amu as disappointing. It’s more that the show’s direction is far different from what I would have preferred.

There are episodes of Fune wo Amu that resonate with me on a personal level, and then there are others (like this one) that feel distant and foreign, particularly when it comes to the dictionary details.

I was not expecting a 13 year timeskip…

“Trust”

I did not expect another Nishioka episode, but I’m grateful I got one as down to earth as this.

「共振」 (Kyoushin)

To many this was likely just another episode, albeit a heartwarming and emotionally satisfying one. But I think so much more of it. To me, it was one of the best anime episodes I’ve ever watched. This is going to get personal, but allow me to explain.

Fune wo Amu’s balance of work drama and endearing romance offers something so unlike everything else currently airing.

「漸進」 (Zenshin)
“Steady Progress”

Here we have a very rare thing in anime: An adult romance without crazy hijinks and misunderstandings.

“Love”

Who knew the mundane could be so breathtaking?

「逢着」 (Hochaku)
“Encounter”

Fune wo Amu sure does hit that 2009 Noitamina sweet spot.

Written as: Extensive Ocean — like the dream-conjured sea waves of a hundred thousand words suffocating an unsuccessful salesman’s comprehension of language.
