「英雄切望 (アルゴノゥト)」 (Eiyuu Setsubou (Arugonouto))
“Longing to Be a Hero (Argonaut)”
It’s okay to whip up a minor ruckus in Orario – that’s just mere entertainment for the gods and goddesses. Killing stone rituals and planned insurrections? No problem. But never touch anything that Freya finds fascinating, in this case Bell Cranel, or else you won’t be long for this world. Ishtar bit off way more than she could chew trying to make the boy hers. In a matter of minutes, Freya’s ground forces raze the red light district into molten piles of burning rubble, effortlessly putting an end to Ishtar’s devious plot and putting on quite the statement of deterrence for anyone who dared to think along similar lines. And the way Freya sadistically plays around with Ishtar before slapping her back to heaven couldn’t make it any clearer – never ever mess with Freya. In a hypothetical situation where Phryne desecrated Bell, I’d feel a potent mix of anticipation and terror as to how Freya would rip an abyss into Orario. If this sequence of events was all within calculation for Hermes, taking down Ishtar while rescuing Haruhime and getting laid, good gracious me that was quite the master plan indeed.
On the other hand, though the soundtrack ‘Heroic Desire’ always gets my blood pumping and Bell’s fierce resolve impressed me, I wasn’t that impressed with the first fight that JC Staff came up with. Bell vs Phryne felt awfully flat as the marquee fixture we’ve been anticipating. You had your moments where their blades clashed, while he was encased with glowing energy. But that was it really. There was nothing more to that fight in a technical sense, and it’s a shame because it really could have been on another level with the stakes and emotional gravatas at hand. That said, Bell’s subsequent bout with Aisha proved a lot more entertaining. Admittedly, I can’t help but use the Minotaur fight as a standard for Danmachi, because the series has proven it can be breathtakingly incredible. But I did enjoy what the final fight put on the table, with an excellent display of skill from both combatants tied together with neat choreography, and it definitely hearkened back to the core themes of heroics and legends. By definitively rejecting the heroes of old and their selective approach in deciding who should be saved, Bell rewrites a new legend himself and creates a much worthier hero in the process. At least from my perspective.
I suppose you can’t get a better outcome than that. Sure, the most powerful and ax-crazy goddess is still obsessed with Bell and she even sees his immunity to divine charms as an exciting challenge to be overcome, meaning that the future cannot be easy for the Hestia familia. Nevertheless, the Ishtar familia have been vanquished, Mikoto is safe, Freya herself will likely avoid directly interfering in a way that would affect Bell’s personal growth, and Haruhime has been saved. She might not have seen the worth in herself, believing a prostitute is not worth saving. However, she was able to become true to herself with some encouragement from Bell, reaching out to him and requesting for his aid. Without her assistance, it would have been impossible for Bell to take on and defeat an adventurer that was two levels above him. Bonus points when Ottarl caved that sadistic toad’s head in once and for all (not that I condone violence against women, but I make an exception for Phryne).
What does the future hold? With something like one or two episodes left, I’m expecting some much needed fluff to pad things out and end the season on a high note. And Hestia better watch out, because a new girl’s in town vying for Bell’s affections and threatens her once untouchable status as best girl! Anyway, that’s about everything I wanted to discuss. As always, thanks for reading my post and see you next week
The title for the next episode suggests they’re starting on Ares. I guess they’ll just make it seem more dramatic than what it actually is and then pickup the rest of Volume 8 in Season 3.
Though I’m kinda hoping they’ll announce at the end of the final episode that they’ll resume the series in the Winter season. It’ll be a nice way to start new years 2020. I’m looking at the Winter season shows and can’t find any JC Staff entries for some reason, unless I’m like totally blind and missed them lol.
Actually, I’m glad they are going to cover volume 8 this season. It’s is mostly about character development (despite being about an invasion), especially when it comes to:

But most of all, it means that a 1-cour third season could cover volumes 9-11 which covers:

Oh well, we’ll find out if a third season is in the possible works if:

That’s pretty quick then. I hope they get on with adapting a third or a fourth season. While this second season hasn’t quite lived up to the first one, I’m extremely fond of the characters and Danmachi remains a premise I massively enjoy.
What a boring fight. Bell just stood there parrying blows instead of quickly running behind the lumbering Phryne and stabbing her in the back. Or is that not what heroes are supposed to do?
JC Staff have been underwhelming for a very long time now. But they continue to remain a force in the modern anime industry, so I’m afraid they and their mediocre practices are here to stay.

The moment when arrogant bragging finally makes a BIG spark. Love the big guy, I hope he crushed that toad’s skull. I actually will be shocked if that Toad manage to live through that. I mean, anime logic, you would be surprised in what some characters can live through. However, even if that Toad is alive, I at least hope she would get severe brain damage or some form of permanent damage. If she wants revenge, I hope she gets herself killed by attacking the big guy; don’t want to see that Toad go after Bell. Sigh, hope to never see that Toad again, I doubt there will be any familia that is willing to accept her; if there is then say goodbye to all of their men.

While that Toad is the only ugly I want dead, I hope the rest of the pretty girls didn’t get killed.
It doesn’t matter if she survives or not. Ishtar is gone so toad is mow powerless unless some other god takes her in. And nobody will. Who the fuck would be THAT crazy? Maybe the Evils.
only a god or goddess that are not “jealous” about her beauty… (but i wonder about the anime version…). someone posted a wikipedia link about her real life person and there she was used as role model for Aphrodite statue..
i peeked into this episode and must say the “rage” and “saving the damsel in distress” emotion here is on full power. Nicely done
Also, Guys and Girls of old Greece Gods history. How is Freya? The Wife od Zeus, right? So she is used to this and more i suppose
In nearly all sources, she is described as the wife of the god Odin
Sorry
Actually, Hera was Zeus’s wife. They had separate families that were both decimated by the Dragon.

Actually most people consider Alice best girl. I don’t get it.Then again, I really hate the love at first sight trope. It’s soooo boring and Alice herself has as much personality as a brick wall. The only thing I can figure is people like her because she is a literal blank slate for their fantasies.
