「もうすぐ夏がやってきます」 (Mousugu Natsu ga Yattekimasu)
“Summer Is Coming Soon”
How dare you pull a SAO: Alicization on me!
General/Final Impressions
Okay — so that caught me completely off guard. After last week’s huge episode, I figured we were about to reset things on the plot rollercoaster as we took an episode to cool off and analyze what happened. Except, I never realized that Fruits Basket was going to take a break after 2-cours and make us wait until 2020 for more of that heartwarming content.
Anyways, I guess it’s time to dive into the somewhat-final impressions as we wait two whole seasons for more of this show.
To be honest, I feel like I’ve said most of what I wanted to say throughout each post. This week’s final episode was nothing short of spectacular both within the bubble of Kyo’s arc and as an integral piece of the overarching plot. With our two main boys Kyo and Yuki finally breaking out of the shell that they’ve been stuck in for ages, it truly feels like we’re about to embark on something amazing from this point. That and if I’m not mistaken, it’s around this point where the original anime and the remake will begin to differ significantly since if I remember correctly, Kyo’s true form being revealed was the “big conclusion” to the original series.
Overall, I don’t think we could have asked for more from a remake of an already fantastic show. From the heart wrenching moments that uppercut your emotions into oblivion to the relaxing moments of watching characters just live their lives and do their thing, Fruits Basket is a prime example of what a show with a simple premise can really do. Without solely relying on the curse of the Somas, the story has been able to craft a web full of amazing moments where each individual character’s personality and quirks provide a solid foundation to build on. A foundation that I hope will be able to remain steady in our memories as we wait for the series to pick back up.
As always, thank you everyone for keeping up with the posts! I hope you enjoyed the first half of the series as much as I did and I’ll catch you on the other side when things pick back up. See you then!

Rin looks like a total badass representing the horse of the zodiac, and will become a literal Esemble Darkhorse!
It’s crazy to think after all this time we are finally going into uncharted territory (anime wise). Season two is going to be so hype.
I can’t help but feel like everyone is depending on Touru way too much, she’s literally solving everyone’s issues. I have to wonder how stressed Touru might be…

I think the main point of the show is that Touru solves these issues simply by being herself and that she is happy when she sees the people around her being happy. She is simply a good person 🙂 At the same time though, I think it’s made clear that she is also being taken care of by the people around her – we had the episode with Kyo and Touru when she was sick, her friends staying over and buying her stuff, Hanajima going out of her way to “protect” Touru, Yuki being really gentle with her, her being invited to the onsen and the mansion with the Soumas, Yuki and Kyo coming for her when she was supposed to live with her uncle.
So even though she solves a lot of issues, there are many instances when she “gets” something in return.
Seeing forbidden romance is a reward in itself.

Yeah, finally Rin 🙂 Now there’s only one member left. And we also get a short introduction of two new characters. The episode was really nice and a good conclusion to the last one. You really get the impression that Kyo changed for the better (and that he deserves some happyness in his life). And I have to admit that, even though I usually dislike this kind of character, Ayame is really awsome and always manages to change the mood 🙂 I also liked the metaphor of Yuki climing the stairs towards Touru. Even though through the last three eps, Kyo and Touru’s relationship was developed, through these moments, I still think that the series is hinting much more at a future Yuki and Touru relationship. I have to ask though 😉 Do you have more info on when the next season is going to start or are you optimistic thinking that we have to wait for “only” two seasons? Because it could start in summer 2020 or fall 20 etc. so we’d have to wait even longer…
It’s been close to 2 decades that I had given up hope of there ever being a sequel to Fruits Basket so this is really the best news ever in anime history. By the way if anyone wants to watch any anime for the first time this one would be the gateway towards that bliss. With the remake, it has modernize this generation’s classic tale with that zodiac uniqueness and a sequel promise for all fans that now continues the story that had only lived on for manga readers. I could wait with much, much anticipation and excitement.
