Right off the bat, one of the high ranking officials of the Nura clan, Hihi, and his underlings are killed by the attacking force. It’s not common that a strong good guy dies, but this is pretty much the first time we’ve seen him talk, and so without development it doesn’t seem to make much of an impact. The death itself was not shown at all; the scene goes straight from when he says he will investigate the incident at Bake-neko to the cracking of his mask (death). The Sanbagarasu discover the scene, and hurry to report it back to the clan leadership. Seeing their unique human forms made me curious what Karasutengu himself looks like as a human, as it’s hard to take him seriously when he’s so tiny, even when he’s super serious. He orders more bodyguards to protect Rikuo (insulting his current bodyguards Yuki-onna and Aotaba); all the other clan officials got bodyguards as well, much to their annoyment. Nobody likes getting stuck with someone following them all the time, and Rikuo especially has a lot more to deal with on his hands as most of the youkai barely fit in with humans. I enjoyed seeing more of the other characters though, as they haven’t been featured much. The character designs in this series are pretty good.

It was pretty fun to watch Nurarihyon and his antics during his snack escapade as well. He lines up with kids to get candy, watches schoolgirls get their skirts blown up (at least that’s what I thought he was doing o.o), and gives Yura some snacks after she fails at getting anything out of the super sale. Yup, grabbing bargains Black Friday-style is definitely harder than killing youkai. She is starting to get confused about whether youkai are really all that bad but also states that her goal is to defeat Nurarihyon . As she didn’t suspect a thing sitting next to the Supreme Commander himself and having a very ironic conversation together, I don’t think that’s happening anytime soon. Soon they get attacked by Muchi, a youkai who manipulates wind like a whip, and his gang who are out to kill Nurarihyon and destroy the clan. Yura saves Nurarihyon and kills most of them, using four shikigami simultaneously. She should have just attacked Muchi immediately with everything she had instead of stopping to brag though, as he will probably be giving her a lot more trouble which the preview indicates. I was also dying to see Nurarihyon himself fight as I imagine he is probably quite strong (supreme commander after all), but it doesn’t look like that will happen just yet.

      1. Dam it guess ill have to leave it up to the power of imagination, but i wish the character appearances would change, its always a sign the anime is good or mature.

Anyone know when Hagoromo-Kitsune the demon fox appears in manga and any chance the series will be animated far enough for her to appear?

      2. @crazystudguy, above:

Considering that this is a 2-cour show, and we’re just starting this arc at episode 11… Not a chance. We’re currently at chapter 22 (or thereabouts), and in the manga, this arc doesn’t finish until chapter 47/48. There’s also a lot of filler between then and the actual start of the Kyoto arc, so… it isn’t going to happen. Wait for Season 2.
