Legend:

Now that every show has had a few episodes to make its case, it’s time to tell you what we’ll be blogging this season. This is Random Curiosity’s Spring 2021 blogging schedule.

As per illustrious tradition, this is a tentative overview of our plans for the new season . . . or at least should be, but with multiple episodes under our belts, we’re pretty confident in our picks. Will some of them fall flat in the home stretch? Probably. This is what we’ll stick with for now, barring any unforeseen changes in the near future.

Introduction-In the Name of the Moon I Will Write for You!

Hello! I am Princess Usagi! While my name is lunar in origin, being a combination of Princess Kaguya, the legend of the rabbit on the moon, and Usagi Tsukino (aka Sailor Moon), I am not actually writing to you from the moon. However, I am over the moon with excitement to be one of the new members of the Random Curiosity team!

Like Sailor Moon, I am a bubbly daydreamer who loves anime, manga, and video games. RC is the “moon prism power makeup!” transformation that will allow me to funnel my love for anime into a power used for the good of others – i.e., the reading enjoyment of the RC readers. I enjoy writing and am passionate about anime, so I couldn’t believe it when I found out that I would be able to have an amazing gattai combination of the two!

Fall 2024 Preview

Summer may be fading as the school season, colder weather, and pumpkin spice lattes start kicking in, but in the world of anime things are only heating up. And by heating up I mean boiling. From a relatively quiet and lean summer we’re entering a season of plenty, with no fewer than 57 shows looking to vye for eyeballs and attention both. Topping the autumn charts are numerous fan favourites, from the hotly anticipated return of isekai prodigy Re:Zero to the lesser alternate world adventures of SAO: Alternative, the dramatic soccer trials of Blue Lock and action fun of Dragon Ball DAIMA, and even the continuations of the epic Rurouni Kenshin, fantasy spelunking Danmachi, and Natsume Yuujinchou Shichi just to flesh out the procedings. Looking for new flames to further keep the days warm? Try out the sleek romcom Kimi wa Meido-sama, cyberpunk action-fantasy Maou 2099, techbro drama Trillion Game, or even the modern remake of romcom progenitor Ranma 1/2 for a bit of spice. In need of yet more on top? The lackadaisical fishing NegaPosi Angler, golf sweetheart Oi Tonbo, magical girl chique Mahoutsukai ni Narenakatta Onnanoko no Hanashi, and reincarnated villainess comedy Rekishi ni Nokoru Akujo ni Naru zo have you more than covered. And hey, if you still somehow have the time to indulge, don’t let the latest rounds of idol shenanigans in Love Live and Idolmaster, the quirky supernatural comedy Dandadan, or workplace romcom hilarity of Kekkon suru tte, Hontou desu ka pass you by.

The frost (and snow) may be nary a fortnight or two away, but anime is here to keep the warm and fuzzies for us going strong. This is Random Curiosity’s Fall 2024 Preview!

Summer 2024 Preview

There are some things about summer that quickly become a nuisance- namely the heat and humidity. I have always found the best remedies to be a frosty drink from the fridge and some nice, cool ice cream. What goes perfectly with such frozen deliciousness? Here at Random Curiosity, the right answer is, of course, the season’s coolest anime! While the freezer may be a bit empty, as the anime offerings typically are fewer during this time of the year, there are still plenty to satisfy everyone.

For starters, we have much anticipated sequels – in fact, it looks to be a summer dominated by sequels. The second season of the wildly popular idol twins pursuing fame and dark mystery in Oshi no Ko. The return of the rowdy, lovable Fairy Tail Guild crew in FAIRY TAIL 100-nen Quest. Then, the continuing emotional journey of the humans and katawara as they seek justice and life purpose in Sengoku Youko. Not to mention another addition to the Monogatari series with Off & Monster Season. If you are a fan of Code Geass, we also have a new expansion of this series’ wide universe with Dakkan no Rozé. One of the biggest (non-sequel) highlights of the summer looks to be Nige Jouzu no Wakagimi, Matsui Yuusei’s latest work, following the action packed history of a boy who ran away and the crazy friends and foes he meets.

There’s a big summer of leisure and enjoyment ahead of us. This is Random Curiosity’s Summer 2024 Preview!

Spring 2024 Preview

As the winter snow thaws, the spring blossoms bloom. It’s a wonderful season for going outside and smelling the fresh air. But sometimes, rain showers and pollen can throw a wrench in anyone’s appreciation of the great outdoors. Whether you plan to observe spring’s bountiful beauty in person or wish to bask in the comfort of your own home, one thing will always stay the same; there will be a new slate of seasonal anime waiting for you.

For those who want to bask in nature, you’re in luck since Yuru Camp returns for some cozy camping this season. With baseball season around the corner, get ready to be pumped up to root for Boukyaku Battery. Or perhaps you’d like to spend some time inside in the warm, intimate setting of Bartender. Fantasy fans can also look forward to the return of Konosuba and the latest installments of Mushoku Tensei and Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken. Shonen enjoyers are eating well too with Boku no Hero Academia and Kimetsu no Yaiba, side-by-side.

Newer fare like Kaijuu 8-gou and Blue Archive aim to add some extra variety to the mix. Love is also on the menu with Tadaima, Okaeri, and Sasayaku You ni Koi wo Utau as standout selections that won’t fail to thrill. This season also aims to recapture the magic of fond memories with a new Ookami to Koushinryou, Kuroshitsuji’s latest mystery, and Hibike! Euphonium’s triumphant return.

Out of all of the anime this season, which one will be the grand slam that brings the winning team home?

Winter 2024 Preview

Winter is here again at last. From subzero days and snowy weather (or blazing summer heat for our southern brethren) to the realization that, oh yes, it’s also a leap year – don’t forget about that! – we also have that one seasonal constant: anime. New anime. And lots of anime at that. There’s quite a few hotly anticipated shows on the horizon, whether it be the fantasy/isekai manhwa adaptation for Ore dake Level Up na Ken, the thriller-esque high school shenanigans of Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e, or the new romance favourite in Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu. In the mood for sequels? Have at the return of Ao no Exorcist, the second go-around for Urusei Yatsura, school parody Mashle, or the venerable Kingdom now into its fifth season. Don’t think adaptations are lacking either, as between ingenious cooking adventure Dungeon Meshi, crazy villainess-OP machine fusion Akuyaku Reijou Level 99, shounen upstart Ishura, and the next great ecchi tempest in >Mato Seihei no Slave, you won’t be lacking for options. And hey, if all that still isn’t enough, there’s a few interesting anime originals courtesy of Bones’ Metallic Rouge, cute girl slice of life Pon to Michi, and Meiji era historical Meiji Gekken: 1874. Short days and cold weather may make winter suck something fierce, but anime is here to help keep our spirits high! This is Random Curiosity’s Winter 2024 preview!

Fall 2023 Preview

You know fall is here when the days grow shorter, the mornings cooler, school starts up, and anime, well, comes on in force. And oh boy is it here in force. As if a sign to show why you never mess with fall anime no fewer than 58 (!) shows populate this season, with everything from tried and true fan favourites to hotly anticipated adaptations and even some very intriguing originals guaranteed to make their mark. If the return of multi-season titans in Dr. STONE, Tokyo Revengers, and SPY x FAMILY aren’t enough to keep the hype train going, continuations to Goblin Slayer, Shield Hero, and Eminence in Shadow should more than do the trick. Need some adrenaline-fuelled pulp action to whet the appetite? Best be sure Dead Mount Death Play’s second half, Yoko Taro’s anime original battle royale KamiErabi, or the fantasy flavoured chaos of Ragna Crimson will more than meet the needs. Like things more on the down low? Give the eagerly awaited Sousou no Frieren a whirl, look into the manhua adaptation fun of Kikansha no Mahou wa Tokubetsu desu, or take a peek at the truly unknown OVERTAKE and Megumi no Daigo: Kyuukoku no Orange. And if that still isn’t enough, there’s always the harem hilarity of Kimi no Koto ga Daidaidaidaidaisuki na 100-nin no Kanojo, the dramatic historical Kusuriya no Hitorigoto, or the always pleasant countryside adventures in Mahoutsukai no Yome to round matters out.

Fall might herald the beginning of winter for many, but when it comes to anime it could easily be a season for the ages. This is Random Curiosity’s Fall 2023 Preview!

Summer 2023 Preview

The summer season is a fickle one. The blistering heat of the blazing sun can be brutal and intense. The cool rain you thought you’d be getting winds up being shrouded in a torrential downpour that makes enjoying the summer heat impossible. For both occasions, you’ll be forced to take shelter somewhere. But while you’re indoors or hunkered down in the shade, why not catch up on the summer anime season?

This is truly a season for sequels, so if you’ve been looking forward to seeing your favorite show return, chances are you’ll definitely find something that you’ve been anticipating in this season’s roster. For light novel adaptations, Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu needs no introduction considering how much hype it has built up since its first season. You can also look forward to new seasons of Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha, Bungou Stray Dogs, and Mononogatari to give you another chance to catch up with some of the newer and more beloved shows from recent years.

Need some peak shonen in your life? The return of BLEACH: Sennen Kessen-hen and two of the best arcs of JUJUTSU KAISEN are guaranteed to feed you well. If you hunger for something funny or romantic, the sequels and spin-offs to Hataraku Maou-sama!!, Masamune-kun no Revenge, Kanojo, Okarishimasu, and Horimiya -piece- may help satiate your appetite.

That’s not to say that new adaptations and originals won’t amaze you. Not when Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead promises to transport you directly into the heat of the action during a zombie rampage. The charming comedy Suki na Ko ga Megane wo Wasureta is a promising school-life anime that you might just fall in love with. If intense mind games are more your speed, then Liar Liar might prove to be the hidden ace up the summer season’s sleeves.

There are many more anime to look out for this summer, so, should you choose to spend your free time this season on catching up on new anime, we’ve got your back in recommending all of the hottest shows during the hottest of seasons in our seasonal anime guide. This is Random Curiosity’s Summer 2023 Preview!

Spring 2023 Preview

Welcome to the Spring 2023 anime tournament of tournaments! And oh what a tournament we have for you this time. The bases are loaded with some seriously seasoned veterans like Mix, Kimetsu no Yaiba, Gundam’s Witch from Mercury, and Mahoutsukai no Yome. New and promising players are also here on the team to whet appetites with Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia, Tengoku Daimakyou, and Skip to Loafer – not to mention established Shonen Jump series finally taking to the field like the supernatural sword-fight packed thriller Jigokuraku and Harry Potter meets Boku no Hero Academia, MASHLE. The ace everyone’s eyes should be on this Spring? The fantastic, funny, heartwarming romantic coming of age story of two adorably awkward middle schoolers in Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu (no, this is not a paid advertisement I swear!). Of course, you also need music for the cheer squad (and peanut gallery) and what better options for that than the beautiful melody of violins in Ao no Orchestra and the darker, idol-themed Oshi no Ko. If romance is more your thing though, check out the lovable Tonikaku Kawaii, manga-ka meets match in Otonari ni Ginga, and the melt-your-heart cute grade-schoolers in love comedy Jijou wo Shiranai Tenkousei ga Guigui Kuru.

Which ones will score a home-run? Well, we’ll just have to watch and see! Please give a stadium-shaking cheer for Random Curiosity’s Spring 2023 Preview!
