Random Curiosity has a new banner – this time, it’s not from an anime. This banner is a collaboration project between me and Prooof. I’ve drawn the RC crew (current writers) as chibis while Prooof did the amazing equalizer background.
When I finished my drawings, the other writers suggested that we should make you – our dear readers – guess which writer each chibi represents. I thought I’d make a little contest out of this.
To make things a bit easier, I’ll let you use the bigger versions of the chibis. All chibis are numbered with ALT-text, in the order they appear on the banner from left to right. When you comment, number your guesses, or write them from left to right. I’ll make a post later with the correct answers and the winner’s chibi.

Contest: Guess which writer each chibi represents by leaving a comment
Prize: The first one to get all 14 correct will receive a chibi drawn by me
Rules: You can only comment once, I’ll only read your first comment. Writers are not allowed to participate!
Hints: I’ll leave hints every now and then.
Contact: Use a valid e-mail address (in the comments section, don’t write it down in the comment itself) so I can contact you if you’re the winner. I’ll contact the winner regarding the chibi’s design!
Hint 1: Gravatars, introduction posts, author names, shows we’ve covered
Hint 2: One of the writers has a name that means “high” in Japanese
Hint 3: This chibi is similar (pose) to the one that was used in this writer’s introduction post
Hint 4: Using the three hints above, you can figure out 12 of the 14 chibis
Hint 5: The toothbrush is from Nisemonogatari, the staff is from Tsubasa Chronicle, the baseball uniform is from Cross Game, the sword is from Sword Art Online, the pocket watch is from Pandora Hearts, the t-shirt logo is from FAIRY TAIL
Hint 6: One person got all 14 chibis correct, but unfortunately, it wasn’t on the first try – it’s either in a second try or a fixed answer

Okay, let’s have a crack at this:
Chibi 1: Suzuku, because Suzuku covered MM. MM is about S and M. A toothbrush can be used in S & M play if used properly. Genius.
Chibi 2: Patrik: look at all the books! He did light novels, I like light novels, so this works out! However, that coffee is dangerously close to damaging that material. Watch it you chibi!
Chibi 3: Takaii is this one for some reason. Call me crazy, but Takaii always came off as a really pretty bishoujo. Whether or not Takaii is a pretty bishoujo is still up in the air, but no matter who Takaii is, it’ll be alright 🙂
Chibi 4: Omni, because he is our eternal king and savior, who will come again to judge us on his white horse of awesome. I guess the horse’s name is Kiiragi.
Chibi 5: Trillian, I knew the guy to be an amazing user of the staff, and we even sparred once upon the cliffs of Georgia whilst thinking of new post ideas.
Chibi 6: Moomba. If you hung out with Moomba as I have, you’d know that he’d always call Yakuhai in his Mahjong calls. Every. Single. Time.
Chibi 7: Sixthdawn. Baseball requires a lot of practice. A lot of practice requires daily training. Sixthdawn did the daily dose once for awhile a long time ago. Therefore, sixthdawn is baseball.
Chibi 8: Kiiragi. T’was a little eccentric fellow who kind of caused a fire with his experiments at times, but in the end, he always made sure to “bury his dead”, if you know what I mean! *wink*
Chibi 9: Zephyr. Sometimes Zephyr likes to mention his toast in IRC when eating breakfast. I also like toast. Stereoman, if it ends up that Zephyr is actually a guy, Kyouya is also an acceptable guess.
Chibi 10: Verdant. That sword. That sleek getup. It absolutely strikes his writing style. Perfectly. How it connects, idk, but damn it I’m going with my guts here and placing all my cards on the table! Also, that sword looks like excalibur.
Chibi 11: Jaalin. Jaalin was always a weird little fellow, but boy was that weirdness random and funny. Obviously here he is portraying the less known “wooden sticks and beer” fetish as a shoutout to those poorly publicized souls. I salute you for using your chibi as such!
Chibi 12: Uh…Divine? He’s got the swag and the cool. Hey, inside that pocket watch might be a piece of paper containing the code he’s working on for his new project! The mystery of it all is what characterized Divine, so I’m placing my bet here.
Chibi 13: Zanibas. I don’t read Zanibas’ posts much, but from her introductory post and his excerpts, she sounds like a quirky girl. Her writing style is pretty cheerful and random, which is what this chibi obviously is trying to portray.
Chibi 14: Stereoman. I occasionally lurk around the IRC channel, but when I pay attention, I often see Stereoman kicking people into the v0id program. Iunno about the axe, since she seems competitive and not vicious, but it’s a good fit for him :).

This is my guess. Well, not so much my guess, but a piecemeal construct that is the sum of all the other guesses posted thus far. If it is right (or anywhere closer to right than previous guesses) credit goes not to me, but to every previous guesser and commenter. Hopefully after having carefully examined the reasoning of each poster (where is was provided) and scrutinizing replies for useful hints the product has inched ever so slightly closer to the truth. Do the writers actually know the answers? Or only the one the corresponds to themselves? Heck I wonder if there are any that cant tell which one is them.
We all know, though Stereo made most of us guess when they were first finished. It’s pretty hard, though. Even knowing a lot about everyone and having one or two spoiled, I only got 12 on my first guess. A few of them are tough.

Unlikely, don’t you think? Considering that Prooof’s gravatar is Fai D. Flourite from Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle; hardly a white mage. And he was directly involved in creating the chibis, so my guess is that some of the ideas for them are his input, even if they were all actually drawn solo by Stereoman- and it wouldn’t make sense if he didn’t have a good idea about what to represent himself.
Wait scrap that, I was an idiot not to notice the design of his staff…

20-30 posts later, here’s what I gather from all the additional information; my revised guess (Mark II…XP). Many thanks to all who have posted in between and special thanks to Croos for his attention to detail.

6. Asobi- the “zhong” kanji is short for “zhong guo ren”- he’s Chinese Singaporean; the one writer we know to be definitively Asian. Represents the Orient. Mahjong tile is functions as a stylistic touch, unless he actually plays mahjong and we don’t know about it.
7. Enzo – he loves Cross Game and other sports
8. Zephyr – he’s in biomolecular science
9. Cherrie – she said she loves food
10. Proof- bleach; cool bro with a sword and he was in on making this so it makes sense that he’d want to make himself look cool…dude, the trench coat is overkill…XP
