The second season of Sora no Otoshimono is just around the corner, but a bonus OVA episode comes our way with the ninth manga volume to get us back into the hilarious ecchi-filled swing of things. “With great power comes great responsibility,” except when your name is Sakurai Tomoki and you use your angeloid to peek into girls’ changing rooms. As a fan-service oriented bonus episode that was deemed too risqué for television, there wasn’t really anything that I felt didn’t meet current broadcast standards. Granted, it was Tomoki taking his perversion to excessive levels again, but what else is new? Nothing went uncensored in his endeavor and he was largely unsuccessful even with Ikaros regulating his particle transformer before it met its end at the hands of Sohara. Objectively speaking, voyeurism does seem to be an inherent problem in Japanese society and promoting it is probably not a smart move from an anime standpoint, so I’m suspecting it had to do with the ethical implications of that and a girl riding a guy’s face down a water slide. Oh Nymph, it’s like you had wings again with the way Tomoki took you to the skies.

On that note, this does take place after the Gamma harpies tore off Nymph’s wings before they were chased off by Ikaros’ Uranus System. As such, the more profound side of the story amidst Nymph sealing Tomoki’s swimming skills was her longing to have a master again. (lol at the Terminator-style thumbs up.) Naturally, all eyes were on Tomoki as the only befitting candidate, who seemingly left her hanging by telling her do whatever she wants instead. Of course, this was more of his way of telling her to do as she pleases now that she’s finally free from her sadistic Master of the Sky, which went on to show one of the redeeming aspects of Tomoki’s character. It may not seem like much in comparison to the crap he pulls at Sohara’s expense, but I find it’s enough to give a more meaningful side to the story involving the other worldly Synapse in the sky and how the sadistic masters up there are intent on taking Ikaros back by force. Despite having a voluptuous angeloid before him who will do anything he commands her to, Tomoki does have enough morals to not want to violate Ikaros in any way, plus wants to give both her and Nymph a happier lifestyle than they once had.

Of course, this is all going to be thrown in for a whirl again in Sora no Otoshimono Forte next month, as powerful, close-quarters, type delta Astraea (Fukuhara Kaori) is being sent down to Earth to dispose of Tomoki. The interesting thing about her character is that she’s not very smart, so most of the enjoyment will come from her encountering someone she considers even dumber than herself (i.e. Tomoki). In case anyone’s wondering, I will definitely be covering the sequel. I did pick Sora no Otoshimono as my favorite comedy last year for its slapstick-style laughs, so how can I say no to a sequel? This is the series that brought us handcuffs and flying pantsu all in one episode after all. 😛

  3. Yeah the manga is just as funny. The anime gains the most on the manga when its one of the less humorous scenes and more touching/belligerent/etc scenes.

    I always find Tomoki’s grand speeches, that seem to initially make sense before descending into ecchi-ness, hilarious.

    The interesting thing is that he can be risque with everyone but Ikaros which probably points to him not wanting to take advantage of her lack of understanding

  4. Where did you watch this OVA? I’ve looked everywhere and can’t find it. 🙁

    Also, can’t wait for season 2! I really want to see Astraea and the crazy antics that happen between all three Angeloids. 😀

  7. God I can’t wait for the second season. This turned into one of my ATF animes ever. It is just so ridiculously funny. I am dying to see Astraea finally animated. I nearly peed myself reading the manga, so I’m going to have to prepare some old man diapers for the new season, because it just gets funnier… even if they up the ante with the heart-wrenching plot.

    Sora no Otoshimono is like pure crack. I’m a junkie in a desperate need for his fix.

  9. Ikaros <3 I loved this series and can't wait for Forte. I also did vote for it last time around. One of all our times fav songs is also one of the first season's endings. I hope they do the same format for the EDs. Was always such a treat. ^^

  11. no wonder they didnt air this before.now i know why they say it was extreme. Astraea animation in the end was cool to.
    My wonders:
    i wonder what is the use of tomoki’s grandpa in the story.i wonder what is the relationship of Daedalus to Tomoki.

  17. First season was my favourite 2009 show. The manga is awesome but judging from the way it’s advertised and the # of episodes it’ll have for season 2, I think

      1. Thankfully, it looks like it’s really only this OVA which was produces by a different team. I just checked the trailer for SnO: Forte and the charadesigns for that one look exactly like those for the first series. 🙂

  33. After reading about this OVA being “too dangerous to be viewed on public television,” it has always sparked my curiousity as to what was “too dangerous” XD However, after taking Divine’s points about voyeurism and riding on a person’s face on a water slide to consideration, this episode is not as “dangerous” as I was hoping to be. This episode does not seem to be as risky compared to the 11Eyes “Dangerous” OVA lol

    But, I am not complaining. These dangerous episodes are entertaining in their own way and I am glad I can get save them for my collections =D
