“Side Story: Black and Mask”
A side story that actually plays into the main story? What?!
As a side story that doesn’t hold much influence over what we’ve seen thus far, I must admit that I was rather impressed just how well done the episode was. Focusing on a character who will most likely serve as an important plot point during Season 2 (confirmed 2020), it’s a shame that we didn’t get to see even more of him. However, I’ll take what we can get and roll with it.
That said, it makes you wonder who made the decision to put two separate OVAs at the end of a 2-cour run. If anything, it’s a little strange to know that there’s still another episode left before this 2-cour run will come to a close. Luckily the showrunners seem to know exactly what we want (sans continuing the plot) and have picked two great points to flesh out a bit more. If I had one small complaint though, it’d have to be Rimuru dropping a lot of, “such and such happened afterwards, but that’s for another time.” A small gripe for sure, but one that never fails to sting a bit when I think about how those things could have been animated and shown to us on screen.
In any case, a short post for an episode that gave us a little more time with the always-solid Shizu. It’s a shame that we didn’t get more opportunities to hear about her escapades during the main show since it looks like there’s a lot that went into her gaining the title as the “Champion”. Anyways, I’ll catch you guys next week where it looks like we’ll FINALLY get to see some more Veldora since I don’t think we’ve heard from him since Ifrit got swallowed. See you then!

This has been a great series, but not the fantastic series that it
could have been. I believe these things actually carried the series:
– the voice actress for Rimuru (also some of the other characters as well),
– the visuals – the animation was generally very well done,
– some aspects of the actual story which actually translated into the adaptation.
That last one, IMHO, is the failing of this series. I think there was a real
disconnect between how the story unfolded in the source(s) material, and how it
filtered through its adaptation. Too many things were flattened out in the anime,
but enough “survived” to make it a pleasant watch. That’s the best I can articulate
how it felt to me. In the wrok flow, dunno where the break-down happened – director,
story-boarding, scripting… I’ve read elsewhere where it seems that it was originally
supposed to be 12/13 episodes and the change to 25 threw everything off.
Anyways, hopefully they’ll take a critical look at thing and make adjustments for
the second season.

Anyway, I am not sure if this was confirmed, but I guess this girl was one of the Silver Wing people that were mentioned.
So far, we are having some extra episodes. I hope to see when they will announce the next season.

For me these battles Shizue has to start or endure had kept me at the edge of my seat. The moment where Shizue says the black Demond can best her had me worried that she may be killed. Thankfully we know from the entire Anime that wasn’t the case. Also Shizue looks cool with her flaming sword while on attack stance.
To be honest, this scene reminds me of some “fire magic Girl” trained from an Skeleton…

basically Takaii to to animate it and “show it on screen” would require like 7 episodes of story building
Um, while i was thinking. Mostly in Animes with Red Hair user represents Fire, Magic or Strength.
So where is the Love for Shiva lovers? Girls with cold ice blue Hair Color represent Ice Goddess Shiva? There is the absolute Zero Point in space… Some “famous” Girl from Bleach had this as Bankai.. Even (Anime) Hell would freeze, right?
The “Ice” could be an counterpart for the Void/nothingness… Well. it was just an flash inside my mind.. Perhaps there is no space for Ice blue Magic in the future
