「デートへ行こうよ!」 (Deeto E Ikouyo!)
“Let’s Go On a Date!”
Another strong episode devoted to showing us just how intricate relationships can be.
General Impressions
Man, I’m not sure where I should even start with this week’s episode. Between showing off Narumi in a whole new light and really diving into Hirotaka’s inner struggle with himself, this episode may have been one of the toughest to watch. Toughest in the sense that all of our characters this week were really exposed and had to deal with some really tough questions be it internally or externally.
Starting with the serious part of things, you have to love just how perceptive Hirotaka is. Whether it be about Narumi or himself, it’s definitely an experience watching him go through his thought process. As the straight-faced deadpan MC of the show, it’s never failed to surprise me when the story reminds us just how much is going on inside that brain of his — and this week wasn’t any different. However, what I think surprised me the most this week was just how raw his feelings were toward the end of the episode. Seeing how he isn’t the most confidant boyfriend out there, it’s been real enlightening to see him be so humble when he confronts his inner struggles. Whether that’s comparing himself to Narumi’s ex-boyfriends or wondering whether Narumi is enjoying the time she’s spending with him, it’s just the right amount of self loathing that really turns him into something more. That and, I think it’s awesome that Hirotaka is also able take action when the time calls for it and I can’t express how appreciative I am for this.
Amongst all of that heavy relationship stuff was some amazingly cute moments between both couples that I started getting jealous over them. The biggest of which was that stupidly cute rule of avoiding any otaku-speak while on Hirotaka and Narumi’s date. Something that I was expecting to eventually see, but was surprised just how well it worked in practice. Besides providing Narumi an ample amount of situations to show off her wide range of faces, it was nice to see the two try and figure out what to talk about when their biggest shared interest became taboo.
Overall, another strong episode that really dove deep and gave us a closer look at our two couples. With the pace that things are going at, I’m really hoping that these last few episodes kick it into gear and show us something real lovey-dovey before the season comes to a close. In any case, I’ll catch you guys next week. See you then!

You can never have enough JoJo references… (Parody of Esidisi from Part 2/Battle Tendency.) Also, spending a day where making any references to anime, BL and games has a swear jar-like penalty? As someone who casually drops catchphrases, memes, and points out shout-outs/references on a near-daily basis, that’s actually tough!

Hilarious accidental switcheroo, though. (Shouldn’t have date-peeped, work sempais!)
Getting closer to Kou’s introduction…

Was also interesting to see how much MORE similar the swapped “pairings” were. Almost felt like one of those swapping TV shows without using an entire episode, lol.

If Hitagi is at the extreme end of the lovely girlfriend spectrum, the extreme cold and a dash of spicy spite with a yandere tendency tsundere end, than Momose is at the other extreme end. The goofy dere end.
Both I’d equally date though I pledge my body, mind and soul to Hitagi.
I was like “Eat the damn churro Hirotaka so I can taste it.” That’s when i realized i was projecting myself onto that character hardcore. Then at the end of the episode I realized how much of a waste my life has been. I turn 38 this year and still feel very immature at times. It’s almost too late to grow up.
I was delighted to see Hirotaka playing Pokemon Go. And then was reminded how nerdy/otaku I am for playing the mobile game daily at my age (neither can the average age of the group I play with be considered “young”).
