Summary
Computer club challenges the SOS-dan to another video game – dodgeball – which somehow turns into a game of real dodgeball. Haruhi’s kamisama-ness takes over and everybody goes into seed break mode, but was there really any doubt who would win? A worthy successor to the baseball episode.

Summary
Mikuru tries to regain her dominance as SOS-dan cosplay queen, Nagato comes to a heartfelt ending in her eroge, and we spend a night with akachan Achakura and her psychologically abusive guardian Nagato.

Thoughts
A double release of Haruhi-chan today, but where’s Churuya-san! Ah well, Haruhi-chan has really picked up, and even the animation is at an appropriate level now. Haruhi makes some more Konata faces as she accepts the computer club’s offer of a… kappa skeleton (?), and the match doesn’t disappoint!

What’s really great about these episodes is that the characters retain their original personalities (for the most part), but those things that they are really defined by are turned up about twenty notches, and the author just runs with it. Then again, Kyon is almost exactly the same character (multiply 0 by 20 and you still get 0), and Haruhi was already so over-the-top that it’s hard to get any more extreme than she already was. Perhaps that’s what makes Haruhi-chan so fun – the focus on the other characters that didn’t get enough love in the main series – Mikuru the jealous cosplayer, Nagato the caring otaku, and Achakura the independent but hopelessly needy pet/baby… genius. I wonder what Achakura is going to be next?

  • February 27, 2009 at 3:03 pmTies

Loved the yuri hint at the end with Yuki singing the Ga-Rei Zero OP (anyone who saw the OP know they’re hinting at YukiXRyouko action XD)

    @wannaknow?

Then don’t hover your mouse over the images , problem solved. These 2 episodes are quite entertaining, thanks Jaalin.

@Ties: Seems like a tenuous link to make. o.o But if you say so~

  • February 27, 2009 at 3:30 pmkadian1364

As time goes on, the more and more Lucky Star and Haruhi resemble each other…

Not that that’s a bad thing.

  • February 27, 2009 at 3:37 pmYogasa.S>

My favourite is episode 6 because i could see a caring(and of course cute) Yuki with a very cute Asakura… Too bad, they removed Asakura early in the anime/light novel… she and Yuki would definietly make a good pairing… Wah… Sorry, my imagination went wild…

I LOL’ed at Nagato singing Paradise Lost of Ga-Rei Zero, sung by none other than Chihara Minori herself.

Which reminds me, I still haven’t finished watching Ga-Rei Zero.

“What’s really great about these episodes is that the characters retain their original personalities (for the most part), but those things that they are really defined by are turned up about twenty notches, and the author just runs with it.”

How is turning well-rounded characters into retarded fanservice hyperbole great? Suzumiya Haruhi-chan is complete garbage and I absolutely dread season 2 because of the complete willingness to suck the cocks of the audience that likes Haruhi because of the ED dance and moeblob fanservice of Mikuru, rather than the high production values and faithfulness to the absolutely wonderful novels.

“I LOL’ed at Nagato singing Paradise Lost of Ga-Rei Zero, sung by none other than Chihara Minori herself.”

Oh, I didn’t know Minori Chihara was the actual singer of Paradise Lost. It makes it even funnier and I’ll keep my yuri goggles on XD

  • February 27, 2009 at 5:05 pmDave

Ahhh, episode 5 reminds me of Super Dodge Ball. Oh, memories….

  • February 27, 2009 at 5:40 pmg0rth0r

ahahah Paradise Lost signing was awesome !

Also, am I the only one that some hints about a second season could be extrapolated from the “seriously animated” part in episode 6 (yeah I know this is getting old, but I can’t help but to think about it)

  • February 27, 2009 at 6:28 pmZer0zUNLTD.

Achakura Ryoko is so freakin’ cute! Unlike Asakura Ryoko. =p

  • February 27, 2009 at 6:40 pmkureejii

    PARADISE LOST LMAO!!!!!

  • February 27, 2009 at 8:32 pmBen

    Quaid, start the Reactor.
It’s not like they are not funny, but moderately funny and tedious to read, what with all the calorie burning and time consuming mouse-over… -ing.
It just has a bad comedy-to-effort ratio.

  • February 27, 2009 at 9:28 pmmegalith

    KEWL! It’s not 3d-ish!

  • February 27, 2009 at 10:07 pmFat Cat Lim

Can anybody make out what was Nagato and Achakarua watching on TV? It sounded like Aya Hirano’s voice, but I’m not sure from which series. Is it from Akaneiro ni Somaru Saka?

  • February 27, 2009 at 10:15 pmjellayrei

I actually like those mouseover captions, I think they’re hilarious…

  • February 27, 2009 at 11:03 pmmagnumslinger

    LOL. SEED Break!

  • February 27, 2009 at 11:32 pmmagnumslinger

Has anyone noticed that “Haruhi-chan” is paying more attention to Nagato than Haruhi herself? And she’s actually showing emotion like laughter and isn’t singing in monotone.

    It’s a sign of Season 2 (Vol. 4)

Nagato managed to get Mikuru as a rival. But what happens when she takes on Haruhi in going after Kyon?

  • February 28, 2009 at 1:07 pmKalua

Have to say I love the captions, never fail to amuse me.

  • March 1, 2009 at 11:26 amOverMaster

The captions must stay! Even if only to make up for the brevity of the reviews themselves.

Also, poor Mikuru. Even more redundant and useless now. Truly fails at being Makie Sakaki.

  • March 2, 2009 at 6:36 pmkenken

    XD,ryoko turning into a baby is funny.XD
    but i wonder
when will the TMoHS volume 10 light novel be released?
