「光の海」 (Hikari no Umi)
“Sea of Light”

I can’t believe it’s almost all over. Silent Cherry Blossom Nightmare.

General Impressions

Man, it feels like it’s time to write a Final Impressions post. Luckily, it looks like that’ll have to wait one more week since we’re going to hopefully get a nice finale episode to really close things out next week.

So, what is there to really say about this week’s episode? We’ve already covered all the big things that surrounded our girls and nothing that we already didn’t know happened. But if someone were to tell me that “nothing” happened in this week’s episode, I’d probably give them a pretty scary glare as I walked away in shame.

If I were to describe this week’s episode, it felt like a warm hug from the show. A kind and loving hug that tried to console us before something big was about to happen. With how the episode itself played out, I loved that Chika finally got an opportunity to get some closure with her struggles. As the normal monster who wouldn’t let anything stop her from achieving her goals, I’m glad that You and Riko were there to support her as she came to grips with the reality of what’s going on and just how much she had accomplished with the rest of the girls. Honestly, as the “leader” of Aqours, I don’t think we could have asked for a better person to lead our girls to where they are now. Sure, she may not be everyone’s favorite, but there’s another idol group leader who I for sure didn’t feel as strongly for.

That said, I’m also glad that the story took some time to give all of our other girls some time to be in the spotlight. Specifically I loved how each girl got their own mini flashback with Chika and got to express just why they want to win it all.

Overall, another great episode that sets us up perfectly for whatever emotional bombshell the showrunners have planned for us next week. In any case, I hope everyone is having a great Christmas (or Holiday) and I’ll catch you guys next week!

  1. OMG! I’ve fallen even more for Aquors just watching this episode from their struggles and continued strive to win Love Live! This determination allows the audience to connect with the girls at an emotional level. How can an Anime with two seasons maintain the same energy and never derail from it. I can definitely say the moment I watched Episode 01 Season 1 to Episode 12 Season 02 my feelings for Love Live! Sunshine!! Hasn’t changed at all. Love Live! Sunshine!! May not have been the hottest Anime out in Media today, but when you get hooked you get hooked for two seasons. If I am ever a parent I want my kids to experience this kind of life—doesn’t have to be Idols, just the teen spirit and love life.

When you look at every girl separately each of them are unique and a few of the participants are SO unique they don’t fit in a normal group properly. But, in Aquors, characteristics and attitude of each member not only compliment one another they boost each other’s self-esteem to Thunder Forward. I am happy to have picked up this Anime.

The scene where the eldest sister in Saint Snow mentioned how she saw Aquors looking weak I was curious to see what Chika would say. If I were to respond it would probably be some thing along this line; “Weak? That’s my fault as the leader of Aquors. I was still learning how to manage my team and keep them from being discouraged whilst keeping myself from giving up at the same time.” But hey, I’m not the writer…

  2. This is probably the most introspective and WAFF-filled episode of Love Live! Sunshine!! to date.

That said, I’m honestly gonna be sad (and a bit angry) if Aqours still doesn’t win with that performance. I mean, while it is possible that Aqours could still gain fame for their school even if they end up second, they already deserve that long-elusive happy ending (albeit a bittersweet one) and anything less feels like a disservice. Can’t wait to see how the next episode pans out.

From doling out armbars in season 1 to getting armbar’d (Or was it a facelock? Been a while since I last saw any pro wrestling shows…) by Riko in season 2, talk about a great fall for Fallen Angel Yohane…

Pillow fights are serious business. Especially in the case of the third-years with their unresolved feud on who’s the best at pillow fights. XD
