Summary:

On Kaminejima, Suzaku wakes up to find himself with Anya and C.C., the former of whom reveals that she’s currently Marianne, the mother of Lelouch and Nunnally. Lelouch meanwhile is with his father inside place where the remains of the Sword of Akasha are, and he demands to know who killed his mother and why his father didn’t protect her. Charles finds it ironic that Lelouch would want the truth from others when Lelouch himself lied all the way there. Lelouch doesn’t try to deny it and instead paints lying as a natural thing that everyone does since they cannot walk around without personas. Charles disagrees, stating that personas disappear when lies are realized to be useless, and strife disappears as well as long as people understand each other. Lelouch sees this as a mere metaphysical theory, but Charles believes that it’ll become reality soon – that is the Ragnarok connection. Back in the cave on Kaminejima, C.C. describes the World of C to Suzaku as a collective unconsciousness, an assembly of hearts and memories, and a sea of metempsychosis. It is something that some people call “God”. C.C. goes on to explain to Suzaku that humans are masks worn by the collective unconsciousness, a window opened in the sea of hearts and memories. Their conversation is eventually interrupted by Marianne who needs C.C.’s help in order to go to where the Charles is, and Anya falls unconscious once Marianne leaves her body. Afterwards, C.C. tells Suzaku that they are similar in how they both want to die but cannot.

When Marianne appears before Lelouch, he is shocked and initially thinks that she’s an illusion, but she asserts that she’s real. With Marianne here, Charles finally decides to answer Lelouch’s question from earlier. He starts by explaining that he and V.V. were going through hell half a century ago when everyone was fighting and killing each other over the throne. Their mother was one such victim, and since Charles and V.V. hated the current world, they swore that they would create a world without lies. Marianne and C.C. agreed to that vow, but one night eight years ago, V.V. had called Marianne out because he thought that Charles had changed ever since he met her. V.V. felt that the two being happy in their understanding of each other was endangering the agreement he had with Charles, and that would leave V.V. by himself. He had then shot Marianne and had set up Nunnally as a witness, but what V.V. didn’t realize was that Anya was also in the room and had seen what happened. Marianne, however, had noticed the girl and had used her Geass power to hide herself inside Anya. There was still a way she could talk to C.C. though, and once C.C found out the truth, she left the religious organization to V.V. and disappeared. Charles meanwhile knew what happened, but when he talked with V.V. afterwards, he was lied to.

Lelouch can’t believe that his parents would place all the blame on V.V. who’s already dead, and he’s still sore about himself and Nunnally being sent to Japan as hostages. Charles claims that it was necessary in order to hide them from V.V., and he reveals that he also secretly moved Marianne’s corpse because as long as her body remained, it was possible for her to return to it. In order to protect everything, he rewrote Anya and Nunnally’s memories, and as proof that Nunnally wouldn’t ever get close to the truth, he made her unable to see. Marianne then explains that they realized that they couldn’t get 100% guarantee on their plan without C.C., and since she couldn’t persuade C.C., they had to make use of Lelouch. She and Charles believe that the success of the Ragnarok connection will cause such tragedies to disappear, and everyone can be their true selves. All this makes Lelouch realize that the war between Britannia and the Black Knight was in order to draw C.C. out, and he was merely a nuisance. It is at this moment that C.C. and Suzaku arrive in this world, and when Suzaku questions Charles about the world he’s trying to create, Charles claims that it’s the gentle world that Euphemia and Nunnally had wanted. And now that they’re all gathered, Charles is ready to go through with the plan and promises to grant C.C.’s wish afterwards.

Marianne is excited to see the sky around them shatter and turn into something much more mechanical looking because she believes that the Sword of Akasha will kill the gods. All they need now in order to start a new world is to combine the two engraved marks. Before that can happen though, Suzaku asks Lelouch why he tried to obtain the world. When Lelouch says that it was for Nunnally, Suzaku calls that an excuse and makes Lelouch admit that he fought for everything he wanted to protect. Suzaku suggests that he has to do something if he wants results, and Lelouch states that the means for that lead to the denial of something else. Turning to face Charles, Lelouch declares that he doesn’t approve of his father’s way of thinking. Lelouch feels that people don’t just lie just because of strife but also because they seek something. A world where everyone can be their true selves won’t change and is equivalent to a world of memories, and Lelouch doesn’t want that. When Marianne offers the possibility of reuniting with people who have died, Lelouch realizes that his parents believe that this is all a good thing. He thinks that them forcing their good intentions on others is no different from bad intentions, and the one thing clear to him right now is that his parents abandoned him and Nunnally.

Marianne tries to protest that this was to protect them, but Lelouch counters by questioning why they didn’t stop the war between Japan and Britannia. He believes that his parents gave priority to their plan and didn’t care about whether he and Nunnally was alive or dead, and he knows that the gentle world that his parents had talked about is gentle only to them, unlike the one Nunnally had hoped for which was gentle to other people. As for the fact that the Ragnarok connection has already begun, Lelouch takes off the contact lens hiding his Geass eye and declares himself Zero, the man of miracles. His Geass won’t work on his father, but Lelouch has figured out that there’s someone else here. He recalls that his father had said that the World of C was the will of mankind and that all people aren’t equal. When Charles states that the Power of the King cannot defeat the gods, Lelouch asserts that this isn’t about victory or defeat – it’s a wish. He asks the gods not to stop the progression of time and, as a Geass symbol appears in his other eye, he declares his desire for there to be a tomorrow. This succeeds in destroying the structure that was connected to Jupiter, and it has the added effect of causing Charles and Marianne to start to disappear.

Marianne doesn’t understand why C.C. isn’t disappearing as well since she had supported the plan, so C.C. apologizes and reveals that she had realized that Marianne and Charles were acting only for themselves. In response, Marianne tries to claim that it was for Nunnally and Lelouch’s as well, but Lelouch questions if his parents even knew the meaning of Nunnally’s smile. Since they don’t understand, Lelouch explains that Nunnally knew that there were things that she couldn’t do due to how she couldn’t see or walk, and her smile was that of gratitude. He goes on to accuse his parents of not seeing reality, and the thing that still angers him most is how they abandoned him and Nunnally. In one last desperate ploy, Charles grabs his son’s neck and warns Lelouch that what awaits is Schneizel’s world. Charles feels that good and bad intentions are both sides of the same card, but Lelouch doesn’t care about all this and denies his father’s world. His parents then disappear, and afterwards, Lelouch asks C.C. if she’s going as well. C.C. points out that he wanted her to be smiling when she died, and she questions Lelouch and Suzaku back about what they intend to do now that they’ve chosen to advance time instead of Charles and Marianne’s plan.

One month later, the Britannian royal family gathers for an internationally broadcast announcement from the Emperor. To everyone’s surprise, Lelouch appears instead and claims the throne, declaring himself the 99th Emperor of Britannia. They are happy to see him, but they think this is a joke, so Lelouch reveals that he killed his father. When Lelouch’s siblings try to have him removed, Suzaku jumps down from the ceiling and knocks away all the guards. Lelouch then introduces Suzaku as his new knight, the Knight of Zero, but since the royal family still doesn’t take him seriously, Lelouch uses his Geass to make them all acknowledge him. Meanwhile, in Cambodia, Schneizel is happy to hear that Lelouch has returned and thinks that this resolves all the current problems. He doesn’t care if Lelouch gets everything, including Britannia, because he knows that the big problem is still ahead.

Yikes, talk about making things unnecessarily complex and turning everything upside down – a friend even commented to me that it felt like the writers were trying their best to outdo Evangelion. I got a headache trying to make sense of some of this stuff, and it doesn’t help that they left much of it open to interpretation – things like how exactly the Sword of Akasha was going to slay the gods, how the new gentle world was going to make them all become one, how Lelouch used his Geass on the collective unconsciousness/Jupiter, and the list goes on. One of the things they did make clear was Charles’ motivation – wanting a world with no lies because he hated the current world due to all the death in his childhood – and I have to say that it felt rather juvenile and disappointing for someone of his stature. I thought it’d be more grandiose, but it really comes down to his childhood and how his mother was killed. Take that away, and I doubt any of this would have ever happened.

Along those same lines though, I wouldn’t say that Marianne and Charles are evil so much as misguided and a bit selfish. Lelouch detests them for abandoning him and Nunnally, but I have a hard time seeing them as the true villains of this series. Then again, unless Schneizel steps up or you count Lelouch himself, I doubt there will ever be any such villain. What bothers me is that this episode is likely all the backstory and explanation we’re ever going to get despite much of the series building to this point. And *poof*, just like that, it’s over and Lelouch is now Emperor. The pace of it all makes Marianne and Charles seem like mere plot devices used to give Lelouch the throne. Speaking of which, the thought occurred to me afterwards that this episode could have been the finale of R2, and Lelouch becoming emperor would have been a nice cliffhanger for a third series. Instead, the story continues, and there are four more episodes to wrap it all up. It’s probably not too late for a Mai-HiME style reset…

  1. OMG this episode is like… almost ridiculous, now it looks like the final boss is Schneizel. But now whos the evil? Lelouch using geass to the world or Schneizel? Even Marianne is actually evil, hmm maybe the ending will end with Lelouch and Suzaku dead. Hmm Schneizel + Black Knights VS Lelouch + Britannia.

  2. … Chibi-CHARLES? Inconceivable! But not as much as Millay and Nina facing off again.

… and that poor Anya, getting Geassed so at a young age. And poor Lulu, finding out his beloved mother, in whose name he was acting, didn’t really care about him after all. Nice Mai-Otome style sparkling though.

I’m actually referring whether who will have the sinister plans here now, i know Lelouch was already sinister from season 1 but Schneizel saying “thanks you” to Lelouch becoming the Emperor is strange besides we don’t even both of their plans/motives now (other than Schneizel wanting to take over the world which seems like it)

  5. Now this is getting interesting… Lelouch now has the Geass level by which he could be immortal.

You know, Bismarck also looks like Charles’ young man self in a way. Could he also be a son?

Now it’s Black King = Lelouch, versus White King = Schniezel.

Now Charles and Marianne can live happily ever after… on Jupiter.

  6. I reckon Code Geass R2 was good until somewhere when Shirley died or the episode when Shirley died. Everything starts to go down hill. As I’ve said for last week’s episode comment, I just want to see how it ends for Code Geass instead of wanting to know what and why. ~3~

  7. For some strange reason, I can’t help but to keep imagening Schneizel in a white zero suit and calling himself “infinity” to oppose Lelouche. The start creating an Order of the White Knights XD

  12. Lol, what the hell did everyone expect!? Of course he had to become the new emperor, only way to change anything in Britannia. Best way to do it with minimal loss of life, instead of having a dragged out slug fest against them until he pounded them into the dirt. Either way he’d still have become emperor.

  13. i think these last few episodes have been way too rushed!!!!!!!!! this is nothing like the code gease i loved so much before!!!!

  14. WTF???

    totally 180 degrees turn around!!!

Suzaku – Knight of Zero (at least he’s better than the Knight of One LOL)
Lelouch – the self-proclaimed Emperor? (Why did he chose to be the Emperor anyway?)
Kallen – the new Empress? (preview)

  15. maybe they will explain the events 1 month ago prior to this plot twist… It is still a good show you don’t know who is good or evil… for those who are complaining about this show being a crap, you have the luxury of not watching…

  16. @ fraggedd:
I better hope not, that would mean he is really following his father’s footsteps 😉

If I were Lelouch, I would pass on the throne to someone else, when the time is right. I doubt it will do him any good. And it wouldn’t surprise me if he lost the throne soon enough.

Seriously Lelouch, Geass everyone? Wth..way to go down the path of supreme evil overlord (but it is somewhat orginal, to have the main character degenerate like this). He better hope that Jeremiah won’t turn against him or uses his Geass at the wrong place, for whatever reason.

Btw, in the preview, is that Lelouch next to Kallen with the priest like clothes and silly hat?

  18. Charles had more than 1 wife aside from Marianne…, Lelouch is probably bound to do the same thing 😀

yeah only problem is that he already lost 2 candidates : Euphemia and Shirley (well first on is half-blood related – but hey who cares – ur the Emperor of Darkness!)

    ALL HAIL LELOUCH!!!

  19. …..that was unexpected.

On another note: I thought the author of the series said Lelouch and Suzaku would never work side by side again?? <_<

    uurrghh, please no, everything but a Death Note end ;__;
I still have to wait to see the subbed episode but everything is pretty much a mess and I don’t think the anime will end up with “….and Lelouch became the new emperor and lived happily ever after having the whole world, including Suzaku(I wonder why he decided to side with Lelouch BTW…), at his feets”

  21. @Roflcopter
I think that the writers created Shirley’s character to distract the Lelouch away from Milly. She seemed like an obsessive/starker type school girl, which is not normal, around Lelouch. In contrast, Milly was not like Shirley in regards towards Lelouch.

I am not certain if Lelouch will want more than one wife. But the idea of having Milly and Kaguya as his top choice is possible. Kaguya has no problems with Lelouch having another wife. If Lelouch restores the Ashford’s Nobility, Milly would gladly accept his proposal to be his wife. As for Kallen, I don’t think that she is interested.

  22. Remember, four more episodes of weirdness to go. I recall this was a Plan B storyline, so everything could suddenly change in an instant the next episode.

Lelouch will have a Gundam next ep. LOL

    Chino F
  23. I wondered what the original R2 storyline would have been like? I am sure it would not have turned like this version. I can’t believe that Sunrise placed Code Geass in a family timeslot so that they could see more CG toys to a younger audience. At least that’s what I heard. CG is a great series. But to dumb it down in order to see toys wasn’t a very smart move. They sould have left the series along instead of trying so hard to make into another Gundam type marketing tool. I hope that the writers of this will produce the original version of Code Geass R2 as a novel/manga, the way it was meant to be. Especially the part where Cecile and Suzaku might have had a relationship. I would like to think that this season is nothing more than just a bad dream of Lelouch.

    Max
  24. @Max: it was probably unavoidable. Taniguchi is definitely not the first, and only one to see his series being compromised by the company for sake of more exposure and profit 🙁 Heck, it happens with anything movie or TV-related.

I’ll still watch the series to its end, and it is and still is a fun ride although I definitely feel the last couple of episodes seems especially out of tune (a sentiment other ppl share as well).

Well, I guess Schneizel is indeed the final boss (at least right now) but I won’t even bother predicting what will happen in the last few episodes, haha. And I must say Lulu’s emperor outfit is so outrageous and robe-ish it just screams CLAMP. xD

    tau-tau
  25. lelouch geassed jupiter?!!!
if i remember correctly, one of the requirement to use lelouch geass is to have “eye” contact with the target…

does it mean the new level of geass doesn’t even need an eye contact or does jupiter have eyes?

    now thats scary :D:D:D

  26. @Tau-Tau: Okay….look, this did not happen. It’s just speculation from a person about the interview, but now the interview without the speculation is viewable. Why do people still believe this even after the actual interview has been posted for people to read?

The interview only talks about him tossing out the scripts for R2 episode one because he wanted to ease in new viewers who were going to be watching the show in it’s new time slot. Please please please stop ignoring this. Please for the love of god read the actual interview instead of just listening to what people claimed about it. If you are looking for peace of mind reading the actual interview will bring you it I promise. Here, I’ll just post it here. READ THIS!

    Taniguchi:
During production, to be honest, I wanted to finish it off. This was a personal intent, different from that of the production commitee.
So, although there were two recap episodes, these were not planned from the beginning. I wanted to go straight to 25 in one shot, but due to circumstances related to production, two eps were cut, and it became a 23-ep series.
I thought, as director, I’d have to take responsibility for this, and retire from the industry.
This was the toughest time, but at that time, I received sufficient support from the viewers, and was able to produce eps 24 and 25. With this I was able to finish it off the way I had planned. I was very grateful.
But then, another distressing time. Ep 25 was written completely under the premise “In half a year, I’ll be able to continue with ep 26 in the same timeslot.” But that was ruined. If I think of it now, there are good sides to it to, but at the time, I became useless to the viewers.
There was an event for eps 24 and 25, with a comment from myself in the pamphlet. To be honest, at that time, I was completely broken (hahahah). I didn’t know what to write. I couldn’t apologize to the fans who put in the effort to come, and I couldn’t write an explanation either. After the event, my associates told me of the fan reaction. “Everyone just went ‘Ehhhhhhh?’” Don’t sound so happy saying that, idiot! (Hahahaha.) That was a really tough time.

—- You really made it through some tough circumstances.
    Taniguchi:
I was really broken after the first season. Around then, I had talked with the scriptwriter KURATA Hideyuki and director of Bamboo Blade SAITO Hisashi. After that, during “Bamboo Blade”, there was episode referencing me, with a “I will retire” gag, that made me wonder just how well they could read my feelings. (Hahahahaha)

—- We’d like to hear about the last scene of ep 25.
    Taniguchi:
Whether it was to be 50 episodes or cut off, I’d always planned to end it like that.
During composition, I’d also kind of planned to use it as the opening of ep 1. By the way, I threw out ep 1 completely five or six times right before it reached final manuscript stage. I’m surprised Mr. OKOCHI wasn’t angrier. (Hahahahah)

—- In what points did this impact Lelouch’s development?
R2’s framework through to the last episode is “What happens here, what does that mean next…” The path to that, what are the most effective ornamentations, amusements, subcharacters, and so on are decided by the scriptwriter. There are miscalculations, and sometimes characters do unexpected things.
Like Villetta or Arthur, or Bartley or Tamagi. [Tamaki, NICE GOING MANDORIC] (Hahahahah)
If the lack of explanations this time seems to worsen the tempo, think of it as a paring down. For example, episode 8, under the old structure, would have taken three episodes. “What route would the JLF have used to bring the Raiko there”, “What occured at that meeting”, “A detailed following of Zero’s actions” were also considered. An escape route was even decided, and used in the newscast at the beginning of ep 9.
Just by explaining this all, will the viewers be pleased?

—- A word for the fans.
    Taniguchi:
Everyone, for your reception of this work, allowing me to produce the ending I’d first envisioned, and allowing me, who really should be unemployed, to be here, thank you very much.
I don’t want to impose a way of enjoying it, but as a suggestion, from here on, view things from the perspective of other characters [He is actually just talking about episode 1 here, tks shimei]. Suzaku, in particular, has hidden his motivations and actions quite well, so this can give quite a different impression.
“R2″ still has production work left to go, so I’ll try my hardest to get it exactly right.

THIS IS THE ORIGINAL STORY PEOPLE! There was no rewrite of the series or a plan b or anything like that. Taniguchi even says in the interview that he has been working towards giving Geass the ending he intended and to look forward to it. Please pay attention, please read this and understand the facts. Please……..

  27. I kind of expected this since I saw the title of the last episode titled “Emperor Lelouch”. The emperor clothing on the preview looks like straight out of Tsubasa. Suzaku knight of Zero? Suzaku really likes being a traitor to everyone.

    Falryu
  28. Ugh, so Marianne was worse that I thought. So she was in kahoots with Charles all along – but V.V. had other ideas – and Nunnaly’s condition was a result of Charles doing some damage control when Marianne was killed. I’m not surprised Lelouch felt betrayed by this (and would probably throw up at the thought that the one he was fighting for was in fact an ally of the one he wanted vengance on), and thus his really drastic actions that led to his becoming Emperor.

    Sailor Enlil
  29. “To put it another way, I’m worried about the direction the series is going. ”
    Agreed 110%!
This felt FAR to rushed. Also the general goal of the series, Lelouch wanting to finish off his father, ended like that in one episode? Plus his mother who he loved so much just abandonned like that? We’re way to go to see things finished here, and I wouldn’t wonder if Charles and Marianna will show up again. Also the series has 4 episodes to go. Can’t imagine the rest will be Lelouch peacing the world and fighting Schneizel. I also remember the space fighting scenes in the opening – to put it shortly, there’s much much left to cover – I hope not too much for 4 episodes..

  30. @Kaioshin Sama
Ugh, as if most of us hasn’t read that when it first popped up under “news” in the official Geass site when it first came out.

A lot of interviews are clipped around, so I would like to politely disagree that your point is not exactly valid. It doesn’t really help that the interview was first made public around the same time speculations were made on 2ch and so forth concerning Taniguchi’s dissatisfaction with R2 moving into the Sunday 5:00 PM timeslot, and as a series Geass has been *quite* responsive to 2ch/niconico to begin with.

So, please, for the “love of god” not get in our face about “the facts” and how ignorant we remain of that particular interview. What someone has going on in their mind and what they actually say for the general public is not necessarily the same, and you are definitely not Taniguchi himself or a close associate of his.

I’m not going to even bother responding to whatever argument you will conjure up with Kaioshin, because it’s going to be a complete waste of my time. Good day. _(_ _)_

    tau-tau
  31. It’s so hard to believe that there won’t be a 3rd season, which could balance everything out. It’s a popular series. I can’t see why they won’t want to make another season that could have given an indepth of the series?

    Max
  32. Although I have yet to watch this episode, I’m going to share my thoughts on Shneizel being the last ‘evil boss’. In the series. To many of you it seems outlandish and make-shift, but I think it’s perfect in the mind-twisting style of Code Geass.

For those of you have forgotten, at the end of Season 1, Cornellia tells Lelouch that she doesn’t know what happened to Marianne, when he pressed her further on the matter, she told him that the Emperor (charles) ordered Shneizel to move her body. <– Focus here.

Shneizel always struck me as the very ambitious and deceptive person, he took Nina in after he saw what she created back in Season 1 at the school, he nurtured her ability for the sole purpose of creating the bomb. Then he slowly pushed Suzaku into weilding it, knowing that it may be used. So I absolutely can see that Shneizel knew all along about what Geass was, and that he has been playing the deceptive ‘innocent’ role all along. — Another mention of his personality is included in Season 1, how he was the one to spearhead the capture of the Europian Union — He’s smart, smarter than Lelouch and has been playing this role all along.

Also, one of the commentors earlier said that at the end of this episode Shneizel thanks Lelouch for becoming emperor (he says thank you, as I understand, not in person) – There’s multiple reasons as to why this happened. For one, it could be that it makes it easier for him to assume the role further along the lines – if he was the one to defeat the ‘tyrant’ who brainwashed the Royal Family they would no qwalms about him becoming the next Emperor.

Some people have expressed dislike at how the show is ending, I for one can see the plot holes but I don’t think that they are so bad, after all it’s a massive story, and it is heading down the path that I least expected – which I love about this show, it forces you to think about the characters, their motives, and analyse things well after you’ve seen it. Not many shows are able to do that, not even hollywood bullcrap shows and movies.

    Ashan
  33. Geesh, people please read …it says he Geass the royal family to accept him as the king. Something he should have done from the very beginning anyway, and some how one person managed to get away. Now, Britianna rules over everything and Suzaku pretty much got his wish …that he change it from the inside ..sort of.

I had a feeling it was going to get stupid after the poorly executed Freya incident, and it seems it is only going to get worst. Maybe, they are going to clear some things up later …otherwise …this ship is slowly yet surely sinking.

    Silentveil
  34. Also, notice how Shneizel is holding the chess board King at the end of this episode – His plans are finally coming to fruition.

I could be very mistaken about all this, even if I am, it would be a very nice thing, because that’s what I love about this show, it always manages to elude my speculation.

    Ashan
  35. Wow, Charles & Marianne wanted to change the world but they just ended up playing the game of life with half the world. Now how many people are dead because of them (directly or indirectly)…you can include those who were killed by Suzu & Lulu. GW Lulu, but I would have killed those two fools with my own hands instead of letting Jupiter do it. ALL HAIL LELOUCH VI BRITANNIA!!!

    Megas
  36. They once said that Marianne loved her children dearly. If she didn’t care about her own children, why did she even bothed to bring them into this world, if that was the case? With only 4 episodes remaining, this season is going to leave a lot of confusing questions than answers. Lelouch is very angery at his mother for putting him through hell. All this time, he was fighting a battle to know who was responsible for her death, only to find out that V.V. was responsible the whole time. It seems to me that the writers want to complete this season as quickly as they can. Personally, Code Geass would have been better off as either a novel or a manga. The anime could have come after the manga was completed.

    Max
  37. I just can’t help but feel that people are continuing to jump on a band wagon when it comes to this whole trainwreck/poorly written TV series thing. I don’t know what else to say other then I continue to disagree until the show is finished and I can judge for myself. I’ve seen this road travelled so many times before that I just think it’s internet business as usual. Code Geass bashing is just a trend and it’s a shame that people are letting it ruin the series for them.

  38. Oh, of course. Comments by “people” saying they are worried about future episodes and how the recent few episodes feel rushed immediately constitutes as bashing and “everyone” is doing it.

Would you be so kind as to read every single one of the comments, tally up the ones that downright insult the show, and compare it to the total number of comments being made? It might surprise you. *cough*

    tau-tau
  39. I couldn’t help, but laugh at the results of this episode. I didn’t laugh, because it was a little of a turn down, but because of Lelouch’s own victory. He is finally an emperor and Suzaku’s finally on his side. As stated often, there is nothing those two can’t do together. It seems that Schniezel’s the last boss. I just hope for a more happier ending now for both. I feel that it would be rather sad to see Schnizel victorious…

    the burnt shadow
  40. I really liked this episode. I thought ep. 20 was rather rushed and really choppy and disjointed, but I didn’t feel that with 21. It did go very quickly. I think we must all accept that from here on out the pace is going to go super fast. But overall, I thought the episode was really EPIC and enjoyed it alot.

    zalem
  41. -I don’t know if we’re ever going to see Marianne and Charles again, but what bothers/worries me is that they’ll ultimately turn out to be just plot devices used to make Lelouch emperor. To put it another way, I’m worried about the direction the series is going.

What, like Euphie wasn’t a mere plot device to get Suzaku to completely hate Zero/Lelouch in S1??

    m-san
  42. @m-san
The same could be said about Shirley’s character as she might be a plot device to get Milly and Lelouch together. That’s the only motivation that would get Milly to seek Lelouch so that she can finally confess her true feelings for him. The series would be very lame if they don’t provide a Milly x Lelouch moment to talk.

    Max
  43. The next person with a Geass is going to be Shneizel next, and what in the hell was the Emporeor’s knight of one doing during this episode? No, I haven’t seen it yet, but you know …I just had to wonder that. I mean, was there a back door to that dimension or something, and why didn’t anyone thing to check out what Anya was doing? Oh right, she fooled him, because she is a completely evil bitch. Wait, so way was everyone so loyal to her …was Charlies altering people’s memories to think good of her or something? Well, now, we know why everyone wanted her dead.

Also, what is witht his whole Jupiter killed off the Emporeor thing? That is going beyond insane …was Jupiter the god, and can Geass control even the gods? Does that means that there is a way to kill an immortal and does that now mean that Lulu is immortal? Well, if he geass the royal family I take that as a big no, and I guess …Jupiter is now immortal.

    My head hurts.

    Silentveil
  44. I hope not. This series is going by really fast, unlike the first season. All they have presented was nothing but plot development while the character development has taken a back seat. Quite sad.

    Max
  45. I doubt Schniezel becoming the hero at this point. Lelouch has had a rather confusing role as a Machiavellian “hero”, but it’s too late in the series to change the protagonist.

    imho

    Ash
  46. Does season 1 have different writers from R2? I mean this can’t be what the writers had in mind when they started the series…not only that but 90% of all characters introduced or reiintroduced in R2 have had little to no purpose in this series. Even Charles and Marrianne have been one big letdown.

  47. i dont like how that knight one guy suddenly went to work for schnizel, that scum bag hypocrite trying to criticize suzaka for trying to kill the emperor and now he goes to work for the guy who ordered it.

    sdds
  48. you guys need a life if you say the series is going down hill then dont watch and get a life you are not fans of any geass if you think this is starting to suck so dont watch it!!!!!!!!
Oh and i was right Anya is lulu’s sister

  51. Wow, if people don’t like watching this, don’t watch. Tired of the train wreck comments. In my opinion it was a good episode. It shows that people are more complicated then the old good or bad. Everyone is a shade of gray. A persons view of right or wrong depends on the individual. We all lie to the world, to ourselves.

There are only a few episodes left, of course things were going to pick up – they do have to end it after all.

    MidnightTide
  52. I knew I should have quit watching Code Geass when Shirley died. The show has really gone downhill since then.

This show is a mess, and I doubt It can rebound with only 4 episodes left. The show is probably gonna end with Nunnally surviving and killing Lelouch or some crap.

    Zhemos
  53. the thing this show is nice, for those think this show is a crap, of bla bla bad comment about it, please dont bother post it here, very irritating, . too much bad comment make me feel less wanted to read the comment, please show some consideration , u may dont like, but other have a different opinion, thank you

  54. Oh. I have to ask WHERE THE FCUK IS CODE GEASS GOING?!

Okay, first up, if Marianne is inside Anya, then when Marianne and Charles went poof, did Anya disappear too? Okay, and why is THE OH SO GREAT EMPEROR Lelouch wearing a school uniform? And his Knight of Zero is, too. Ahhh, and Chibi Charles looks gay, and Lelouch’s outfit on the preview was.. priceless. Yep, Yu-Gi-Oh rip-off, lol. XD

  55. PLS READ
if code geass is such a let down why do u guys that complian continue to watch becuase u can,t can u. u keep comin back to see what happens next fist of all code geass is political genre of anime there always going to be conspiracy theories about it. although i have to admit that there are some holes in the series cuz they neva went back to why ougi and viletta were saved, why ougi appears to be alright after gettin shot several times but i hope before the series ends they would reveal some unanswered questions but no anime series is perfect there will be flaws sometimes i think people odn,t take their time to watch the series they come on here and start runtin off about the series been a let down.
ON EPISODE 21. i just saw and i was amazed by how things continue to unfold in this series first all, lelouch finds out his parents used him for their plan all this while because of their selfish desires people died because of selfishness thus lelouch is now the emperor what happens from here on determines what future he is tryin to create maybe he is seekin redemption maybe he finally realizes who he is and has glady accepted it
this is just my personal thought on this . schenizel hold the white king or queen signifies somethin that i have figured out yet maybe its a battle blw lelouch & schenizel who knows but i,m anticipatin next weeks episode will also shock me and rest of you

    Johnny Babel Santoz
  56. Man talk about hitting a wall and not knowing where to go. They pulled so much crap outta nowhere this episode, it astounds me. Figures they throw out tons of different things just for the sake of fanservce plot lines/twists. Who knows what’ll happen next with the way things have been turning out….

    Lump
  57. Anyone wanna bet schenizel has his own geass?

I would agree that the current series of events feel a little bit rushed but what i do not get is why people immediately bash the series as being a train wreck. I would really love to know the “so-called real” story of CGr2. Anyone knows?

    BigTime
  58. Finally! I knew Lelouch would become emperor once he got rid of the distractions (I’m looking at you Black Knights). Now everyone should realize that he wasn’t helping out Japan solely for his benefit because he’s clearly more powerful when he isn’t protecting everyone.

    wait321
  59. Did anyone noticed how Suzaku’s title “Knight of ‘Zero'” kinda sounds like he is Zero’s Knight? XD

I know I’m reading way too deep into it, but eh.

Anyways, is Suzaku okay with this? I mean it’s like he’s now Lelouch’s tool unless they’re going to make up and start over again? Looking at these screen caps it looks like they are or just the fact that Lelouch is an emperor?

Could this also be what Suzaku wanted Lelouch to do? Make his “lies” into “truth”?

    Xineohp
  60. I have a feeling that this is just going to turn into a bad ending now… i mean, there are no more ‘enemies’ of Lelouch, except for Schenizel, and with Lulu geass-ing the royal family, it just sorta feels like lulu’s the bad guy now…

    Ikarugen
  61. Xineohp,

Well, considering Suzaku’s turn to a “results-oriented” approach, I’d guess (haven’t seen the sub yet) that he aligns with Lelouch since he sees it as the best way to attain peace.

Just idle conjecture at this point, though.

    Ash
  62. Wow, that was just…stupid. I certainly hope this is the last season, cause I can’t imagine how they are even going to hold together the last few episodes after this. I know how bout we through a time machine into the mix as well. Anyways this show has dropped significantly on my favorites list.

As a side note if you want to see some really terrible writing go see Babylon A.D. staring Vin Diesel. It makes this episode look like a work of Shakespeare, I kid you not.

    W.Wolf
  63. So… in the end we’ll have Lulu’s Britannia vs. Schneizel’s Black/White Knights (I never thought I would associate Lulu and Britannia … anyway that’s why I love CG)

There is something else that troubles me…. Schneizel seems to have a last dangerous surprise against Lulu’s new Double geass. Will it be geass or something else… And there’s still the Knight of One’s geass ( Well I guess it’s one or was it only a link to Charles ???). Maybe he’s got Nunally in his custody… Well there’s so muuuch!!

    I can’t wait fo ep 22

    Shunter307

  64. ironic how suzaku is now the knight of “zero” talk about double meaning. i wonder how xingke and kaguya reacted to ougi’s truth about zero. seems kaguya kinda knows lelouch is zero from her reaction of “suzaku and him”.

    Quikstryke
  65. o and also what will happen to orange-kun. could he be schnezil’s ace in teh whole since he has the geass canceler. technially he was marianne’s ally. i really liked him towards the end here, i hope he stays on as lelouch’s knight of 2, since kallen will prolly be 1.

    Quikstryke
  66. Phantom, if you can’t speak intelligently, it’s best to just be seen and not heard (or maybe not seen or heard at all). I for one honestly agree with W. Wolf. This series is really headed in the wrong direction after this episode.

  67. Wow wow just wow. This has to be the most confusing episode yet.. talk about climax this goes beyond that. I watched and it dam good. I get the feeling it picking the pace to quickly lol

  68. WOW.
    I’m AWESTRUCK.
Most many WTF moments in one single episode yet.

#Excuse me while I go to sleep/reorganize all that data..#
I mean what’s past was awesome but the future has really got me worried.
    Emporer Lelouch geassing everybody?
Schneizel still plotting – I mean does he even know what’s really going on?

    Random:
    – Suzaku now on Lelouch’s side = !!!!! er..this has a LOT of impact on my thoughts. I SO HATED him until last episode, but now er.. I ..
    – OK. I like him. I’m glad he finally understood Lelouch and is helping him now.
    – Does this mean I like everyone on Lelouch’s side? = #feels like banging head on a wall#
    – Lelouch was just WAY COOL … not when he geassed everybody at the end of ep but when he stood up against Charles and Marianne , for Nunnally , getting his second geass eye and geassing Jupiter and all that

#brain hangs due to data overflow#

  69. Train-wreck…WTF. C’mon ppl, its called plot-twists. If yall think this is a train wreck then go watch School Days or Excel Saga or some other steaming pile of $hit. There have been about 10 really good plot twists through out this series os far & about 15-20 medicore ones. I still expect 2 or 3 more b4 this is over. If this isn’t the best anime of the year then I don’t know what is. Its about time we get something that we can’t predict no matter how much we dwell on it. Lulu FTW!!!

    Megas
  70. I love the “Knight of Zero” concept. I should have seen that one coming from a mile away considering that the “Knight of One” was the most powerful knight for a long time.

With that said I wonder if people will make the connection between Zero and their new king… and if they do will they care or even have the power to do anything about it?

Also that’s a new grin that Suzaku has when he is on the monitor, moving aside in front of Lelouch when he disarms the guards. Like he’s really enjoying this.

    Samurai Pumpkin
  71. Jeez to all the folks who’s been apprehensive of a dead note ending, Lulu has always been and will always be the primary anti-hero good guy of the show. He will eventually do what is right despite his Machiavellian beliefs of powers. This episode proof of that. The protective feelings he has over the bond he shares saved the world from Charles’ vision. I’m convinced that lulu will sacrifice himself or die trying when finally facing the Machiavellian visions of schneizel.

    H
  72. hey guys, I just figured out a work pun xD

Suzaku got the new title “Knight of Zero” right? aka a position higher than One.

but since Lelouch is/was Zero. it’s really Knight of Zero. xDD

    Zero’s Knight.

    AznCoffee
  73. So Marianne and Charles were both in on the whole plot to stop time, as it were, and merge everything (life, death) into a single world where truth would reign supreme rather than lies. Apparently C.C. was too but somewhere along the way, she changed her mind and longed instead for her own death. So everything Lelouch has been fighting for has been a lie, and in the end, he couldn’t really protect anyone he loved either (Euphemia, Shirley, Nunnally).

So why become Emperor, when everything’s said and done? Unless Nunnally somehow survived the Freya blast? And why would Suzaku suddenly decide to join him as his Knight of Zero (I was waiting for this title to pop up somewhere)? So Suzaku forgives Lulu for making Euphie a genocidal murderer before killing her, and Lulu forgives Suzaku for nuking Nunnally back to the stone age and everything’s honky dory? Is it to right all the wrongs Charles had wrought in the world by using the exact same underhanded methods he used to stay in power? Not a whole of sense, and makes me wonder what the original CGR2 plotline would have turned out if the director instead of the executives had his way.

A tragic Death Note-type ending seems more and more inevitable (unless said executives find some way to squeeze a third season out of this trainwreck for even more $ and merchandaising). Now that Lulu’s on top of the world as Emperor with 4 more eps to go, there’s only way direction left to go, and that’s down, most likely crashing and burning along the way.

  74. wow…im truly speechless…this ep was so…complicated to say in the least…
well i am really turned around..i cant see this ending well…i have to say i never wanted lelouch to be the emperor, or for his father and mother to go out like that, and i def wanted him to have a happy reunion with his mother…but whatever..

  75. At the cost of going against everybody’s feeling: this episode was great.

“I don’t know if we’re ever going to see Marianne and Charles again, but what bothers/worries me is that they’ll ultimately turn out to be just plot devices used to make Lelouch emperor.” – Plot devices? All characters in a show are plot devices, from the protagonist down to the lowliest sidekicks. Characters exist to be toyed with by the author to produce a good story.

And I find the story to be good. Is it moving fast? Sure it is. Is that a fault? I don’t think so. It seems to me that people have become so acquainted to anime shows with slow story development (including the first season of Code Geass) that they can’t appreciated good, fast development. Do we really need one thousands line to develop a character? A good screenwriter should be able to illuminate a character with just one line.

So they basically pulled an Evangelion, so to speak. Charles and Marianne are trying to realize their own version of the Human Instrumentality Project, but apparently Lelouch and Suzaku have a different idea. In fact, the first part of the episode looked so similar to Eva’s movie ending that I am kind of surprised nobody noticed it already. Lelouch kills off his parents (in Eva Rei had to the job for Shinji), and then rejects the plan just like Shinji in the name of “moving forward”, hence condemning humanity to continue the circle of joy and sadness. Who’s to say that Charles and Marianne are evil? Or that Lelouch is? I believe the situation defies standard moral judgement, a theme that is recurring throughout the whole series.

So Lelouch became Emperor. And now you expect the series to end well for him? Do you really expect him to turn the world in a better place, after what he said in the world of C? If so, you are delusional.

I always wondered why a lot of people were angered by the ending of Death Note (several posts say they hope Code Geass doesn’t end “like Death Note”). I mean, after all he had done, were you really HOPING for Light to get a good ending? This irrational level of attachment for a character, ONLY because he is the protagonist (and therefore “cool”), is totally mind-boggling to me.

So basically: stop caring about the characters. There is no good character left in the show. Sure, it is full of magnificent bastards, but they are still bastards. I will be thoroughly disappointed if any major character gets a good ending (and then, what is a good ending, when two major characters just want to die?). Luckily, the way the show is going gives me hope that the ending will indeed by good – good for the story, not the characters themselves (with the way Lelouch has now seized power, it’s clear that he is intentionally looking for conflict; if you can’t see that, well I can just say you are not genre savvy enough).

  76. I wonder how Milly reacted to Learn that Lelouch is the new Emperor of Britannia? Will Lelouch restore her family’s Nobility? I hope so, and gains Milly as his wife at the same time.

  77. For a slight clarification, he didn’t really geass JUPITER the planet but more like, he geass’d God as he did say that there 1 more person in the room with them and as we know, God is a human like figure.

  78. Dual Geass, that probably means Lelouch has mastered his geass or something. But anywho, great episode n what not.

I wonder why ppl call it Trainwreck? Ive been lurking the internet and saw code geass given this title.

  79. Okay some people are saying that Lelouch is evil from the start, well of course he wasn’t, he was innocent and naive, until his parents screwed them over. Can you really blame the guy for doing that? Unlike Light who was evil from the start (even before he obtained Death Note) he was already thinking of killing all the criminals in the world, and also the rotten people (drug addicts, etc.).

Also so what, you think Schneizel is any better? The guy who smirked or even SMILED when FREYA warhead went off and killed over 10 MILLION and injured over 25 MILLION people. Okay then so the guy who loves genocide is a lot better than the guy who is trying to obtain a peaceful world. By what Lelouch means would be this war, the fact that Britannia is always trying to expand it’s power and territory by conquering and enslaving other nations. Lelouch will most likely but a stop to this, like declaring that he will free all of the nations that is under rule by Britannia.

HOWEVER, will Schneizel approve of this? Most likely not, especially now that he knows about Geass, remember that he is starting to research about Geass deeply, it seems he has aquired a lot of data about it, seeing as it looks like there are some survivors of the geass Cult, which most likely will be controlled by Schneizel. You know that the guy is pissed off, by the fact that he was left out in the dark, with such a great power like Geass. Schneizel will most likely go against Lelouch by using the remaining Britannian forces or royalty (like Cornelia or those who have not been geassed by lelouch) So that tower thing that they battle against will be Schneizel’s doing.

But I do agree that they rushed this, IMO I somewhat knew that this was going to happen. I had originally thought that they would spend the Second season to explain Charles and Marriane, and defeat Charles in this season. Then the Third season would be against Schneizel and his ploy. But since this will be the last season, they had to rush it like this, such a waste.

    In Conclusion:
    ALL HAIL LELOUCH VI BRITANNIA!!!!!

  80. Where does one start…”Wow”…”Holy Shit”…”I don’t even know what to say.”

This is by far, the most developed episode in this series, and boy was it shocking.

As far as I am concerned with the Mariianne and Charles scandle, I support Lelouch 100%. He is correct; his parents abandoned them and regardless of what they say, this world they want to create is based on the past. Their still lingering onto Euphie, Nunnally, and all the people who have been hurt. A world where there are no lies. Ridiculous. All lies are not evil.
As for Lelouch becomming emperor, I did think about it, but did not see it happening this way at all. Bold Move on lelouch’s part but Hell it is about time. AND FINALLY, finally I can say, Suzaku you made me proud. You would think he would be the type to go along with Charles plan but he really has changed.
This episode had way too much plot development…Mariannes Geass is quite remarkable. Now that lelouch has made his move, this is far from over. He still has to deal with Schneizel as well as the OTBK. Now that lelouch has come into the open, how will this effect the world? C.Cs expression made me worry, that this is def. far from over.

I wonder how Suzaku and Lelouch talked this out. Now that Suzaku knows everything, what agreement have they come to?

    All Hail Lelouch! <3

  81. This gives lelouch a huge death flag(complete with a “thanks very much for walking this path and have a nice day”). I think the writers now portray lelouch like Shakesphere’s Macbeth where a normal, honorable person would have been overcome by the flaw called ambition. Lelouch should have known that he may have been banking on too much by becoming emporer like this. I DO NOT expect a good ending for lelouch EVEN THOUGH the writers have insisted that lelouch will get a “satisfactory ending”(in which, depending on the events about to unfold, a good ending( being neutral) MAY VERY WELL BE the death of the lelouch). I have no idea why C.C. is still there, but she won’t last long either, as if there is to be no geass in the world, then she will disappear just like marianne and charles(or just revert to little old moe C.C.). From this point, I believe that EVEN SUZAKU has a better chance of survival than lelouch. Not to say i dont like lelouch, he is one of the most badass protagonists i have ever seen. However, you dont get away in a peaceful world by killing and bending the gift of free will. I, of course, would be very happy if this were not so, and he gets a GOOD ending(complete with Kallen as his empress/queen/wife :D) but the possibility of that is decreasing. It all depends on next week’s episode.

  82. Whoa,another MIND-BLOWING episode!
I agree,if things were handled differently, there could have been an R3!
I mean,CG is at its peak of popularity and to have it cut off so soon and quickly makes it pretty anti-climatic. I do agree with Omni in wishing Charles ‘reason’ was much more..different?
How he acted was really the opposite with what he wanted to accomplish.
Lulu has a LOUSY family, enough said. He’s better off with friends and supporters.
It’s lovely seeing Lulu on the throne and Suzaku as his knight though! Another Suzaku kick!!<33
Finally,Suzaku!Seriously.I’m happy that Kallen and Suzaku are with him.
I also want to see Lulu x Kallen officially!

As for C.C..I never really liked her..she never told Lelouch anything.
    I hope she disappears.

  83. The World of C/Sword of Akasha concept is not hard to understand. In pedestrian terms, the perfect world is Heaven and Charles wanted to kill everyone so they could all go to Heaven. In Heaven, there is no time and people cannot lie – so it’s an unchanging world where humans have lost their humanity.

That’s all there is to it.

    Anonymous
  84. I wonder though what happened to all the “C.C. really wants to be loved” stuff since Lelouch saw it inside her personality. But now it all looks like her wish was to die anyways o0

Okay, that was random and nonsensical. If you want to counter whatever I said or anyone else said that is fine, but don’t go around calling people names that’s just sad.

  86. I thought this was epic. I was a bit miffed with the rush in last week, but this totally made up for it.

Frankly, I don’t see why people are saying ‘trainwreck’. I don’t neccessarily see a happy end here, but there will sure be a good one (or at the very an least interesting one).

Chances are, we’ll have some flashback about the month interim. I don’t actually know about the Black Knights. Though Diethard was with Schniezel, the others are shown seperately. And really, I don’t see Kaguya, Kallen and Xing Ke defecting at all.

Lelouch doesn’t actually Geass God, ya know. He affects man’s collective conciousness. Nor is it an order in the usual sense. More like ‘please don’t do this’. Which dissolves Charles’s immortality in the process (tied to the Sword of Akasha?).

Anya’s been dumped outside now, lol. She might have something else to her though yet. Like how she knew Leleouch. It is said she was a girl at the palace learning her etiquette. Someone (VV?) erased her witness memories and implanted them in Nunnally and staged Marianne’s death again with Lelouch watching. Nunnally was blinded by Charles in order to ‘protect’ her since he thought that would mean she couldn’t give a witness account, and in Japan also, would be safe from evil bro.

Though, Charles and Mariannes’ goal wasn’t exactly saintly either. It was, as people have pointed out, pretty much an Evangelion scenario.

    Harper_meister
  87. I once stated that if C.C. ever got her memories back, she’ll just finish the job she had started. As for Kallen, I can’t see her sharing a moment with Lelouch. However, Milly might be the one to do just that. At least that’s what I am hoping for.

    Max
  88. Great Lelouch!
schneizel is the final boss! I think he hide all the way a geass power or “a geass canceler” to defeat Lelouch. Charles warns lelouch with this words “schneizel’s world”, and suzaku finally understood the real wish of lelouch (He knows even euphie and shirley died without betrayed zero identity to protect him and his goal).

A man who never suffer like schneizel can really understand others.(remember when suzaku fire FREIYA, he said calmy “oh” with a devil smile.)

    Lelouch still continu to fight

  89. lol, internet trends are trendy. it would be nice if people could knock the show without throwing around flamebait buzzwords like “train wreck” and it “doesn’t make sense.” It DOES make sense. is it ripping off other anime? sure, but what anime these days doesn’t. i can count like 5 or 6 anime with the “human instrumentality” ending plot twist that i enjoy anyway. This is a different anime though, and has handled it completely different. anyone who didnt see the “eva twist” 10 episodes ago isn’t paying enough attention. In fact, as soon as they introduced the mystical elements last season i had a feeling this was one of the routes they would take. I feel there was enough development in season one to carry season two, this season has been all about plot, they spent a good 25 episodes developing them, isn’t that enough? This season has proven to be very subtle in that respect despite seeming to ignore it all together. Are people really complaining that the HUGE ensemble isnt being expertly developed? Lelouch has evolved in leaps and bounds, and so has suzaku. If you pay more attention they’ve developed kallen and diethard too. Etc etc. i could go on, but the fact is that if you used to like this show, and now you don’t you aren’t paying attention. I don’t like my anime spoon-fed to me. I had my doubts about this season back in china, but they got back on track with where i saw this going in R1, and i have to say im very pleased.

  90. Hahahah omg, talk about ownage. I think it will be interesting with what happends next, it seems as if Lelouch intends to free Japan or atleast cater to the needs of the Black Knights since he said “For everyone’s sake….” We all know that Schneizel is the bigger villain, but which side will Kallen choose? The only “geass cancellor” that schneizel has are the visors that his troops wear, but lelouch has two geass eyes now, which means his power has increased. No matter what Bismark’s geass is, or if he still even has it, Lelouch will always have Lord Jeremiah, and now Suzaku. From the looks of it, the Black Knights are still with Schneizel, I hope they aren’t retarded and stay with him.

    Grimjaww
  91. i just saw the subbed version of code geass i have to admit it was magnificent almost thought it was a final episode until i realised that there are still four more episodes or five i think anyways lelouch is now the emperor and has continued to advocate the use of geass for instance u would think he would be cautious of they way he used in the past
and the consequences of using it only leads to people’s death so i,m lookin at things character’s from the character’s perspective and i think i have come to realize that lelouch might figure out things at the brink of his death the reason i say this is because schneizel seems to be observing his family’s rise and fall to power because of geass he simply said thank you to lelouch maybe he also likes the reality of life, lies betrayal, death, sadness, joy, freedom, love and the list goes on. I personally do not think that he is a bad charcter and only intervened when he thought he needed to right now the focus is about lelouch as the anime implies the rebellion of lelouch and people should pay more attention to the opening and ending theme of the series it gives out some hints on things on the anime

  92. @ chaostrik3r at page 10:
Hell yeah! xD Suzaku is made of Terminator 😉
When Lelouch announced that the emperor was dead thanks to him..that was pretty cool. The same with Suzaku’s unarmed gravity defying antics, that breaks the spear blades of several guards and throws them all down on the floor.

I never liked or disliked Tamaki. But it is pretty cute to still see him teary-eyed over the loss of his favorite bishie. He is the only one with that reaction for two epi’s straight. I wonder if this will spawn Tamaki x Zero doujinshi 😉

Tamaki has won some of my favor, because he actually seems mournful about everything, unlike the other BK members, whose only reaction seems to be anger, betrayal and “kill”.

I kinda hoped that when all of humanity was at stake, that Lelouch wouldn’t just be talking about Nunnally all the time.

Another dramatic episode that I laughed irl. I lol’ed when Rolo kept freezing Lelouch midsentence during their escape from the BK and now when the emperor propels himself as a rocket towards Lelouch. And Schneizel in Cambodia. That sounded so random that I could help but feel amused.

The BK is still prett braindead for never really thinking about the fact that they were/are serving Britannia and never showed any wariness towards Schneizel, if he isn’t going to use them for his own means. I hope Schneizel screws them over so badly that they finally wake up to the fact that Schneizel might not be all that great and that Zero wasn’t all that bad.

But what is up with the school uniform? Not exactly the way to make a grown up and serious impression.

Suzaku smirked when he was announced a knight, which looked pretty good.
    C.C. had a dodgy expression.
I think Kallen is going to demend answers and explanations from Lelouch.
I also wonder how Kaguya will take this all.

    Teeh
  93. This is one of the best episodes, if not the best episodes of Geass so far. The whole “It was for the greater good” ideals of Marianne and Charles was a failure when it came to Lelouch’s love of reality, no matter how sorrowful. What i loved most was how well he used his full power against that world and how theatrically he maid his ascension to Emperor in front of all those nobles. ALL HAIL LELOUCH true emperor of Britannia and one and only king of Geass. Also, all hail Suzaku, a guy that everyone hated that in the end will follow the most loved, it could be his redemption. I really don’t know what follows but its hopefully as good as this (if not better!!!)

    zeroherrera
  94. Why does everyone keep saying that Lelouch turned evil? He’s been geassing people almost every episode. In fact, with Lelouch in control and Suzaku to anchor his madness, the show seems to be going towards a happy ending (e.g., the United States of Britannia).

  95. Charles and Lelouch’s motivation for changing the world, isn’t it the same? I mean, both of them wanted to change the world when they watched thier mother die, the only difference is that Lelouch has Nunally.
    Suzaku=Thunderfoot
So what is the status of Area 11 (or is it Japan again?), now that Lelouch is the Emp. Remember that Suzaku wanted that place so he plans on becoming the Knight of One, does becoming Knight of Zero means that he can get it as well?
I wonder if Gino and Anya would align themselves with Lelouch? It looks like Karen would. The question of 0range’s loyalty is moot. Since he does believed that Marianne died at Aries. Orange only believes in Lelouch now.
In the ending of this ep, I got the feeling that the Black Knights belong to Schnizel

And I really hope Code Geass R2 concludes well and doesn’t disappoint. Because ever since Episode 20, I’ve been disappointed with the epic twist and all the awesomeness packed into these 2 episodes. Seems like there was no real point to the other 20 episodes in this season so far =/

Also, hope Xingke lives on. And if he dies, hope he dies in glorious victory over Bismarck.

    invAZN
  97. Well, here’s a shot at the interpretation.

Generally, Charles and Marianne both despised what the world stood for. Instead of only changing superficially, which was in the realm of the “physical” world, they wanted to strike at the very foundation of the “world.” It’s sort of like bleach, where existence was merely a pool of life spirits going in and out of the spirit world. In the case of Code Geass, it’s highly revolving around the idea of re-incarnation from an existing pool of “spirits / perspectives” in a collective world. This sort of leads to the idea of history repeating itself and the “world” not changing. (Which Charles and Marianne hate)

Now with the idea of Charles and Marianne striking at the core of the world, is the term Ragnarok. The writers weren’t only trying to sound cool like they try to with European stuff, but it actually has a meaning to it. According to Norse Mythology, Ragnarok is where the creators of the world / gods battled each other over many different major incidents, with the world getting submerged in water (destroyed) and reborn again with two human survivors. “God” in this sense isn’t really referring to the creator of the world, but the system that recycles life in the geass world. With it destroyed, it generally means two things, the collective of memories breaks down and dissappears, and everybody’s soul is either lost or not ever recycled so future generations would lack “souls” to be born with (no life in the future). Thus, Charles would have ultimately killed the Gods / the world and be able to create an “ideal” world by practically resetting all life. As he and Marianne get jiggy with it in a beautiful new world, I guess he’d be creating something without lies.

Now, the questions pops up to…how the hell did Lelouch make Charles and Marianne dissappear like that? The thought elevator in general is what “ascends” individuals into the collective of souls / memories or whatever that gets put into newborns. In general, they’re idle individual spirits. When Lelouch drove his Geass into overpower, he was actually asking the idle individual spirits for another “tomorrow.” (aka, no Ragnarok and to ensure that the collective remains intact instead of destroyed). So I guess after working some sort of spirit world attack or whatever, they make Charles and Marianne dissappear. Another way of putting this out is that man chooses to live life in ways that he’s comfortable / familiar with. By basically giving the command to survive, the collective would do whatever it takes to ensure the old system stays intact.

Now comes the big problem and why CC still doesn’t really want to die yet. The big problem is the existence of “gods” / people with Geass in the world. I guess they’re running on the idea that no man wants a superior being to rule over them like Lelouch does or people with Geass, and there’s really only two solutions. Kill the gods or gain the powers of god. From what CC said right before she destroyed the trains in the geass cult, it was her sin to let them run rampant or whatever, CC’s ultimate wish is to die knowing the world would be “safe” / left in the care of proper hands. Also, the possibility of destroying Geass so no other people would have to suffer the fate that she had to suffer or having another individual running around mad with power. (thus creating another big large war for power). Now with Schniezel, who knows every gritty detail about Geass, he probably wants some share of that power too or he wishes to destroy it. The real big problem now comes to tying up loose ends and making sure that only “qualified” individuals know about Geass or some how developing a “guardian” system that controls Geass.

Hope this interpretation makes some sort of sense.

    Cheers.

    Sevrin

Well on the Anya front I’d guess she’s with Suzaku and Lelouch. She wasn’t standing with the other Rounds when Lelouch took the throne. Besides they’d have a chance to talk with her since she was resting just outside where they were. Curious thing will be if she gets her memories back now that Marianne is gone from her body and dead. I’m not sure about Gino. Was standing with the other Rounds and it will depend if he was turned to Schneizel’s side during the last month.

  99. What would orange kun do once he finds out that Lulu betrayed his mother!?!? I can’t picture the consequences, but it would make amazing plot material. Sir fabulous is a dick. Die Schneizel!

  100. I am starting to like the idea as Milly being with Lelouch but the chances of that are still slim, seeing as the series is close to the end. If anything; if there were to be any pairings; it would still be most likely either luluxkallen or luluxcc.

jsut saw the subbed version too and I wasn’t to surprised that Marianna was evil to the core. Pretty much on par with the “former” emperor. I just want to know how the rest of the episodes will go but as far as we all know, it seems that Schniezel is going to be the final guy Lulu will face, as stated by Charles.

  101. HOLY CRAP! What an amazing episode! Though, agreed. It should’a been the season finale so the follow up would have been season 3! Either way though WOW! Thats all i can say!

  102. You know, this episode wasn’t half bad. I still have to wonder what the hell the Knight of One was doing during this. It seems that maybe, Lelouche’s entire rebellion was planned, and even what is happening next had been figured out by Schenizel. He might have been the reason behind this entire thing.

  104. i thought it would’ve been a good episode to end the season/series on, too; but to be honest, having to deal with more drama in another season feels like it’s too much…it gets a little old and a little tiring

..i know other series have pulled it off, but since R2 set up an extremely fast pace, barely giving anyone time to understand what just happened, it feels like it should end by season 2 and that’s it.

    krista
  105. Actually, now that I have come out of shock. This episode wasn’t TOO contrived. The part about the Sword of Akash/World of C and how Lelouch just destroyed his parents souls like that is a big WTF plot twist that they really didn’t explain well (or at all), but that’s about it. Oh yeah, and SUZAKU becoming Lelouch’s knight?? WTH!!

  106. so many things are revealed… i think the way they revealed marianne’s murderer was a bit lame, v.v. with a machine gun… just change v.v for another character and that would be hilarous it was that kind of scene, this episode was too much at this rate the plot won’t catch up with the size of the mechas.

i am still waiting for jeremiah to appear with nunallt =(

  107. Ok, I don’t see how this is supposedly paced “too fast”, and how this episode makes ther series a trainwreck. In my humble opininon, Code Geass has been steadily improving since around when Shirley died, and this episode may well be the culmination of nearly half a season’s worth of buildup. 1st half of season sucked since nothing of worth happened, and now people are complaining because things are FINALLY happening? Come on, whats the point of a story that does not go anywhere?

And ALL HAIL BRITTANIA!!!!! ALL HAIL LELOUCH!!!

PS: did I hear at the end of the episode that they “found” Nunally? HOLY SH*T!!!! She’s still alive?

    zxn666
  108. At the first eight minutes of the show…. SO MANY TWISTS!

Marinanne was evil from the begnning, Anya was a bystander, Charles was actually being a good guy but failed, Suzaku turned good, C.C. knew EVERYTHING from the start and Lelouch is now the ruler.

Schinzel is now the final enemy of the series.

And now I wonder…. was the whole plot a waste to think that Suzaku was a meddler, C.C. knew everything and Lulu and Nunnally was banished out of love then again the goal was bad.

    Think about it:

If there was a world where no lies existed, wouldn’t that show the people’s true intentions and may cause even more conflict?

I think Lelouch made a good desicion.

    And Jupiter was GEASSED?!

I CANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT EPISODE!!!

    Geass of J
  109. I interpreted the ‘gods’ that the Emeperor was trying to slay as ‘individualism’. By melting down the social barriers that define us as a person instead of a species, there will be no need to lie in order to hide our differences, and as everyone is going to be essentially one person(You are me, and I am you. There is only one human in this world.), conflicts will also be wiped off from the face of the earth.

But Lelouch wants a future, and not a new world. By making everyone the same is almost like stopping time, as everyone will just go in an endless circle, and maybe history would no longer exsist as well when a period of time is looping?

    Probably overthinking this, but whatever.

  110. Um, why you goes are talking about plot devices like they are bad? Plot devices are needed to progress things, so to throw salt at a series because of plot devices (or using literary components such as characters as one) is illogical and shows you rather have a series drag on forever than actually finishing.

    Kevin
  111. This episode was very nicely done, though not perfect in explaining everything out in the open; which is okay. If you think about this episode it basically explains almost everything about the Geass in its entirety.

    – Jupiter: No, this was not Jupiter but the representation of “god” or rather the collective unconsciousness that is viewed as “god”. That being said, this is the source of the Geass most likely and that’s why all the Geass abilities are mind related. Also explains why Geass is the “Power of the King” as it bestows an ability which gives one power over the unconsciousness of another to some degree (IE, like a ruler). Also sheds light as to how the Emperor, Suzuku, C.C, and ect were able to talk to dead people in previous episodes as well as the visions of all the screaming spirits (things that date back to season 1 which makes me believe this isn’t them pulling crap out of their butt). No idea why it had to look like Jupiter though… but we’ve seen that appearance from at least episode 1 of R2 anyway.

    – Lulu’s Geass Twist: When Lulu decides to Geass the collective unconsciousness or “god”, he is able to wish for another tomorrow. What the collective unconsciousness did was fulfill the wish by removing anything that might prevent that tomorrow from happening. Lulu’s Mother and Father were both absorbed by the collective unconsciousness; which no geass (or at least one they possessed) could directly prevent as the power of Geass comes from the collective unconsciousness in the first place. Immortality given by the geass won’t stop you from becoming one with the collective unconsciousness, but willing it to do something with Lulu’s Geass has an effect(would not his geass was not used to command but rather wish, suggesting direct control over it would likely not have worked).

    – Lulu/Suzuka alliance for the Throne: …you do know that Suzuka states that he still must have revenge on Lelouch for Ephie and in the preview Lulouch clearly states that he is forced into becoming Emperor. Suggests that Lulouch adopted Suzuka’s philosophy of changing the Empire from the inside rather than outright opposition and in a twisted sense of irony Suzuka has adopted Lulouch’s idea that the ends justify the means to an extent. They’ve both accepted what they part of the other’s philosophy now which makes them both more interesting as well as dangerous (really looking forward to what might have happened in that last month). I find it makes perfect sense from both a psychological and literary point of view as to why they are now such a pair (it likely has to do alot about penance).

    – Charles & Marianne evil, good, other: They strike me as more misguided as they both seem to have been trying to better things in their own way, but it just happened to be a way that involved neglecting the real world for the hope that it wouldn’t matter once the collective unconsciousness was destroyed. In reality it is revealed that that they were selfish in this way as only their objective mattered and there is a clear line drawn during the conversation between them and Lulu’s group when Suzaku asks Lulu “Why did you start the rebellion” and he of courses starts to say for Nanulley before Suzaku cuts him off with “are you going to use her as an excuse”. This for me seems to be the point when Lulu finally realizes that similar to his parents that his rebellion was for his wishes rather than his sister’s. Conclusion, no one was really evil in the pure uncaring tyrant fashion… Charles does a good job though.

    – Who is Anya: She’s just a noble who was at Marianna’s mansion to learn and got a bit too noisy when she heard gunshots and yelling. Is that too hard to understand? No sister, no cousin, no nothing. Noble.there.to.learn.from.Marianna.too.noisy. Explains also how she got the shot of Lulu and didn’t remember since Charles erased her memory. Funny thing we find out in this explaination… V.V = Rolo with zero good qualities.

    – Conclusion: This episode made sense, was masterfully done if you honestly see it from a literary point of view and those applying the words “train wreck” would do well to eat their foot since they clearly can’t write anything 1/6th as good given they must stick to trashing the works of others who are making much more money with many more readers enjoying their works.

  112. I’m also surprised that not many people have realized that it’s pointless trying to see this from a good guy/bad guy perspective (kinda like the real world). It’s all subjective. Charles, V.V., Marianne, and C.C. were their own protagonists. Lelouche was his own protagonist. Suzaku is his own protagonist. Etc. Etc. Etc. Everyone is their own protagonist. No one is truly “evil” or “good”.

  113. I think the whole point of Ragnarok was to connect everyone so everyone would know what everyone else feels and thinks thereby eliminating all the lies in the world.

Damn. so there’s going to be another series of this. I wonder ow long and What it is going to be about and if there are any new characters in that new series.

it is confirmed that season 2 is going to be the last season afaik…I believe there are still 5 episodes left to wrap things up and that should be plenty (at this rate)

    Stradiot
  115. Is it just me or was the Knight of Twelve: Monica, smiling when Lelouch declared himself as the new emperor. It’s somewhat interesting since the rest of the knights have a displeased look (especially Gino), but Monica seems to be smiling. Perhaps she’s glad that the new emperor is a young and hot guy like Lelouch, she’s probably tired of following commands from a senile old man who thinks everything are mundane.
Seeing as there aren’t many allies Lelouch have at this time, only Suzaku, I hope Monica will at least acknowledge and side with Lelouch rather than Schneizel.

LOL I know that Anya must for sure have some crush with Lelouch or something seeing as she is for now completely unrelated to the family, except that she was just an apprentice for only a week. Seeing as she already had a picture of Lelouch meant that they were at the very least acquainted with each other, or it could be that Anya is some stalker LOL. In any case, I hope that Anya will join Lelouch, and of course Kallen as well.

About the fact that C.C. seems to have a sad face when Lelouch became the Emperor. Isn’t that a given? Now Lelouch is more busier than ever, and even more popular than ever! He can even be more popular if he also declares that he is Zero. So of course, C.C. is pissed off cuz of the possibilities of love rivals are huge lol! Awhile ago, it was only Kallen, but now, man soooo many more. Though I doubt that Lelouch will just marry lots of women, unlike his father, seeing as Lelouch cares about having to truly love someone.

    Nagasumi
  116. Also people are asking why the school uniform? True, I had the exact same question!!! Why?! I know that these two for sure has a change of school uniform, seeing as they probably keep this around once they go back to school. But why did Lelouch not have his coool Zero costume (I mean without the mask and the cape – the one he had on when he faced his parents) when he declared himself as emperor.

Wouldn’t it look soooo much better if Lelouch had that attire on?! I mean he looked so coool when was walking while the knightmares showed his path (the one during ep. 20 when Lelouch dares anyone to stop him, if someone has a greater despair than him). IMO it would even make a FAR MORE GREATER IMPACT with that on rather than the uniform.

    Nagasumi
  117. I read the description but couldn’t find this one important part :

    NUNALLY IS ALIVE.
Bismarck says that Nunally was found! That means our previous speculations were correct concerning the survival of nunally, thus probably Sayoko and Miss Roheimer (not that we care for the latter).

For reference it’s in the final parts of the episode to quote Bismarck correctly : “When we found Nunally, I thought maybe…just maybe…”

    Whataboutnunally
  118. So it seems as if Kallen has travelled to speak with Lelouch, and based on Lelouch’s expression in the end when he looks in a certain direction, does this mean that the Black Knights have come to kill him and that Kallen has betrayed him, or that they wish to join him in peace?

Anyone have an opinion from that small part in the preview?

    Grimjaww
  119. Striking that Lelouch used the eye of horus/ra as a symbol for his new guards and his emperor garbs.

The eye represents healing and protective power. It’s probably a subtle hint to his motives for taking up the role as emperor.

But the look on C.C’s face spells trouble. It’s probably because she knows lelouch’s and suzaku’s plans. I wonder what these two will do to better the world, it will probably mean sacrificing their on lives or chances of having a normal life in some way, for the greater good.

The only downfall for Schneizel that I can think off now is, that he assumes that Lelouch achieved everything because of his geass. The fact that he believes that most of his followers where geassed is going to backfire on the guy.

    JordiBlau
  120. @Whataboutnunally..

That sentence that Nunally is alive, is probably the writers messing with the people that still want to believe nunally survived the blast.

It’s more likely that he refers to time when she was found, just before she became governer.

    JordiBlau
  121. Charles, V.V., Marianne, and C.C. were their own protagonists. Lelouche was his own protagonist. Suzaku is his own protagonist. Etc. Etc. Etc. Everyone is their own protagonist. No one is truly “evil” or “good”.

I might have interpreted your line wrong, but nobody in this show except for Lelouch is the protagonist. Anyone that goes against Lelouch is an antagonist, good/evil doesn’t affect the protagonist/antagonist definition.

    Kiryu Yurina
  122. Hmm, I’m having yet another sinking feeling about what’s going to happen at the end. If Marianne’s recent appearance and actions have been a major ironic twist, I can’t help but think there’s another one yet in store for us

  123. Besides you could have seen it coming that Leouch and Suzaku where going to work together. From the start of season 2 they slowly started to walk each others paths. And now in episode 21 they realized that only one path could not lead to a peacefull world. They realized that they both were right to some extend. So them joining forces shouldn’t be that much of suprise.

People who where saying there was no character development probably missed a few episodes, as they have been building this up slowly for at least 10 episodes in r2.

    JordiBlau
  124. I don’t believe Code Geass was rushed in any way. You just felt it so. If you watched this continuously, you’d understand how the suspense builds up. If they delay it any further, the climax is broken.

    Though Emperor Lelouch was unexpected.

We all have to wait if it will progress well.

    Tan-Tan
  125. Damn it! Lelouch is going to lose every single fucking thing in the end, I’m certain. It’ll be a sacrificial ending-type thing, where everyone believes Lelouch was evil and are glad he’s dead except for a few people like Kallen and Suzaku who survived and know that he made the world better with his evilness.

Hopefully we’ll get an OVA remake or something of the last few episodes to weed out QUALITY and fill in plot holes; otherwise, I’m actually rather satisfied with how the series has been. If the ending is depressing though…We’ll wait and see.

  126. Greatest series of all time!!!!! though it looks like thier gonna make out schniziel to be the bad gur from the begining! Also i quite glad that marrianes death happened ALMOST exactly like i said it did! Kudos me Also is it just me or does suzaku look ReALLLLLLLY GAY in his new outfit from the preview lelouch dresses wiered EVEN for this program aswell

Well in the end as long as lelouch doesnt start being a retard towards the black knights and the UFN just because of a handful of them betraying him then its fine! Also i dont know why the EMperor was so frightened of Schniziel!! if he wanted Surely he could have jut declared schniziel an enemy of the state for going through the emperors underwear draw or somthing trivial (but disturbing) like that! or he could have just told Bismark to do it!

I believe the reason for them coming out in thier school uniform is more a statement of their identities, because it is only at the academy that they were thier true selves. Both, played a role everywhere else, and beside, they wanted to be in synch and probably didn’t have any clothing that matched otherwise.

Knight of Zero > Knight of One. LOL!
Now that i think of it it makes sense.

Also, Seeing Kallen together could mean the Black Knights have given up the idea hunting him down or maybe Kallen realises he’s too powerful & dangerous. Hmm, i’d go with the second one.

    @Nagasumi
Bloody agree with you. I could actually picture him as Zero better than in a school uniform!?

OK, first of all, that spoiler of yours makes absolutely no sense. In all the animes where we have this silly utopian BS going on, the person who stops it is the hero, period. If you want Lulu to come to his end like that, then that would mean that you think the person he cared for the most was completely for the utopia, which is pure BS. This wonderful piece of animation would turn into a trainwreck if that happened. All Lulu is trying to do is change the empire for the better b4 he dies. That’s all we want him to do anyway. He already saved the world from being one mind. He doesn’t deserve to go out like that.

  133. I felt that Marianne and Charles could’ve been in the spotlight for a longer period of time. I mean, throughout the first season and R2, we’ve been hearing about these two characters over and over again, and yet when the time cames for them to appear in this episode, there wasn’t enough light being shed. Sure, we got some brief explaination about what Charles’ and Marianne’s motivations/past/personalities qwew, but…I still feel slightly disappointed. Its fine if they originally were supposed to be plot devices for Lelouch to advance to be the emperor, but I really felt that there could’ve been more light shed on whatever more things about Marianne and Charles. Its like, not enough lol.
But I’m really looking forward to how this series will end. The least would be to wrap up every character’s storyline in the last episode.

  134. Apperently this is the translation of the extended preview of episode 22.

“There’s nothing that can’t be forgiven, but rather you didn’t want to forgive. That’s the last line Shirley gave to Suzaku….I and Suzaku use that point to speak to each other…we start to face reality together……together with Suzaku, there’s nothing we can’t do……hah what irony…a man who always denied Britannia like me……”

I was spot on back in episode 13, when I said that Shirley’s words would play a big role in the reconciling of Lelouch and Suzaku. Finally one thing I got right..

    JordiBlau
  135. I hope he announces that he is also Zero to the world and that he will go on ahead with his plans for the black knights and so when the black knights refuse paint them as the traitors.

And there isn’t much guesswork involved with the godkiller weapon. The way I see it humans are all apart of the C world and so the weapon only sends them back to the world were they are once again all connected. Zero realized that this would mean that they would always be the same and that people lie as a means to better themselves which will be impossible when they are all connected like that.

I never said I wanted that ending. It’s just that like a few posters said things seem to be leaning towards a Death Note style ending. My take in my spoiler post above was just on who’d pull a Ryuk.

  137. okay people are sayin the series is a trainwreck and some are sayin it is the alright
to those sayin its trainwreck i like to see you do a better job there different ways to end an anime series u expect them to give every protangonist a good endin what wrong with a sorrowful/ successful ending if lelouch dies in the end at least if he got his wish to see a world where everyone can leave in peace then that alright some people are gonna be mad and curse the writers out like they did somethin wrong. all the buzz about the unexplained question will be answered i,m sure of it. Things like what happened in that one month, ougi and viletta, nunally been found is it her body that was found or is she alive for now i would suggest we watch it till the end because i,m sure the episodes that are about take place will continue to show more new things as indicated in the preview hoply kallen and lelouch still have sumthin going on i hope.

  138. Omg, SuzakuxLelouch? lol Lelouch is now into deep.

I’m loving this episode. I never expected Marianne was as twisted as his dad. Must’ve been so nice to just stride in a room and boss people around. I love C.C’s ways though. And Cheese-kun.

    ani_d
  139. I thought that grin of Suzu’s was a bit twisted. It didn’t seem like he was faking it – it was more like he was enjoying it. Whatever the case is, they’re on the top with only one twisted fool left to take down. Anyone that loves to see genocidal weapons leave their mark has to be taken down. If the knights side with Sche then they’ll all have to be taken out too, all though they’re beans compared to what Sche has up his sleeve. You gotta love these unpredictable animes.

    ALL HAIL LELOUCH!!!

    Megas
  140. Lelouch had exactly the same grin as Suzaku at that moment. My guess is, it’s because they both finally have what they desired from the start.. They are now both in the position to change the world, I’m certain I would have the same grin at such a moment.

But I’m a bit worried though that grin also spells trouble. It’s a bit of a self-satisfied, sly grin, as if they already exactly know what’s about to come and what this will do to the world.. at least C.C. didn’t seem to happy about it either.

    JordiBlau
  141. It’s surprising that no one has shown any interest in the Damocles yet… In episode 15, after the successful FLEJA launch, Schneizel said that with this, the Damocles is completed. There is a story about Damocles that i don’t wanna explain in depth today, but the point is that the Damocles is a weapon hanging as a threat above everyone. Seeing as episode 24 is named “The Sky of Damocles” and there is a thing in the opening shooting FLEJA over the whole world from space, I guess everyone is taking Schneizel too easy…

The point is that Schneizel might very well fulfill his duty as “the big bad” and that the whole thing about space battles probably got to do with his weapon that has something to do with FLEJA… well that’s about it.

    Geekodot
  142. It seems like a lot of the episodes seem to evoke completely opposite reactions from different people. One person says that it was horrible while another thinks that it was the best one yet. I guess that it just goes to show how diverse the group is that likes Code Geass and how everyone is looking for something different in the series.

Personally, I don’t understand why anyone would think that this series is a trainw reck or poorly done. I’v seen a lot of anime and I think that it’s one of the best that I’ve ever seen. It’s certainly not perfect, but as a whole, I find it to be quite good. Everything progresses logically and while there are more twists in the plot than just about anything I’ve ever seen, there’s always some basis for it and they usually end up explaining things fairly well. There are, of course, exceptions, but on the whole, they do a good job.

As for the rushing… Well, it’s quite common for stories to have a large amount of buildup and then to go through the actual climax and resolution fairly quickly. There’s nothing abnormal about that. R1 did the same thing. The mess with Euphemia and the end of the season basically came out of nowhere. They may be blowing through things quickly more at the end of R2 than they did in R1, but that’s because they’re actually resolving stuff and getting close to the end rather than just producing a season finale.

As for this last episode, I must agree that what Ragnarok and the World of C are/were is fairly vague (though it’s not that hard to get the basic idea of what was going on) and that they’re a really stupid idea (I’m not sure that Evangelion was the first use such an incredibly nonsensical idea, but it unfortunately seems to have popularized it). However, I’m not sure what else they were going to do with Ragnarok other than some kind of “reset” of the world (be it by literally taking the world back to its beginning or by wiping out almost everyone and starting over again). Still, they served to explain the emperor’s actions quite well and – truth be told – it doesn’t really matter all that much to the plot what thy were. They were the emperor’s motivations for what he did and showed that while he was incredibly misguided he wasn’t outright evil. It also gave Lelouch something to stop in order to save the world. Really, it’s a big part of the plot only in that it defined the emperor’s actions and resulted in the major confrontation between him and Lelouch. In either case, it probably won’t matter for the rest of the plot.

Other than that, the only thing I can think of that was off in this last episode was Suzaku breaking metal blades with his feet. They acted more like glass than metal. But it was cool, so they did it. It doesn’t matter much with regards to the plot anyway. It’s actually probably Suzaku’s coolest moment in the whole show though.

In either case, I don’t get this whole train wreck talk. I can understand not liking some of what they’ve been doing, but I think that they’ve done a good job with what they’ve done.

    Kalessin
  143. @WingZero zxt
I don’t think that the emperor was all that worried about Schneizel before because with his plan realized, Schneizel’s plans wouldn’t mean anything. It’s just like how he didn’t really worry about what happened to Lelouch and Nunnally after they were sent to Japan. Once his plans were realized, he’d have them back anyway. It didn’t matter what happened to them in the interim. It’s only now that Ragnarok has failed that Schneizel’s plan is a real threat.

    Kalessin
  144. Well the combo of Lelouch and Suzaku seems pretty unbeatable, and it seems as if Kallen is planning to join them, which means that even with the Rest of the Rounds, the stand a ghost of a chance of beating Lelouch. Let’s not also forget Jeremiah with his Siegfried Sutherland, I wonder which way Xing-Que (sp?) will go.

    Grimjaww
  145. In the world of C, I wonder where Marianne and Charles will end up? Perhaps they where sent to the world where lies don’t apply as they wanted. But either way, they are now with Nunnally and Euphemia in a better place. And in due time, Lelouch will join them as well.

I still think that Marianne will try to make contact with Lelouch, one way or another from the spirit realm. But I could be wrong.

  146. Why is everyone acting like lelouch being emperor is a huge problem if anything it actually makes MORE SENSE then anything else hes done with his power

how i nderstood this episode is that Marriane and Charles were deleted due to the fact that they would inevitably interfere with lelouch wish for a tommorow! in other words THEY AINT COMING BACK (except in flashbacks) And OMGoodness suzakus cheesy annoying grin seriously!!! theres enough reason for my continued hatred and lothing for him in that alone!

It Does really bother me that everyone is saying that this is a trainwreck just because the end result wasa by far the most unexpected!!! right up until the episode before or the spoilers onr koshimizus bog way bck!! It kinda reminded me of the Film Jonny English starring Rowan Atkinson (seriously watch it its hilarious) I defy anyone top explain decently tat this is a trainwreck 4-5 EPISODES BEFORE THE END you cant call a train wrecked if its still moving!

Suzaku arrives and suddenly all the guards start acting like a grenade just exploded infront of them HONESTLY that must of been a 80 foot drop (due to the palace being a palace he essentially dropped from just a bit higher then a church spire)

WATS THAT FALING FROM THE SKY?? is it a Bird is it a Plane NO its Suzaku!!??!????

Tried to pull a stereo typical guren lagann type villain ending with the emperor and marriane ( how all the ‘villains’ in guren lagann did what they did to protect humanity/universe/thier villages etc) but no one bought it especially lelouch!!!

Has anyone else notice how C.C. is now acting like shes depressed!!!

Lelouch just casually strolled in HOW COOL WAS THAT

Suzaku still has a whole heap of commupants (debt) he still owes us!!! i reckon he will die facing bismark!! either that or Kallen will personally id rather get rid of suzaku cos hes still that guy i hated for reasons which suprise suprise HAVENT CHANGED!!! (mostly)

Lelouch: Im alive STRAIGHT from the depths of hell -silence-… btw i killed the emperor
(CUE GIANT DEATH MUSIC!!!!!!!!!) LOL gets me choked up with geekish glee everytime. had it at full volume. At my wedding or my funeral (which ever comes first cos im single!) i WANT THAT SONG PLAYED!!

We all hate schniziel but atleast for the time being ive noticed that other than being a brittanian prince hes done the least wrong (YET!!!) i mean the bk abandoning lelouch was mainly lelouhcs fault (for not shooting schniziel in the face or kidnaping him earlier LOL) but other then be annoying and the quick smirk he let go at the launch of Freya hes been a good boy (on the surface) afterall lelouch has been known to Crack a smile even(especially) when its not appropriate

c.C.: Lelouch the Gawain’s on fire WHY are you smiling???

Lelouch: I just thought of thought of my next move huhuhuhuh HAHAHAHAHAHA etc… (^illustrative^)

How annoying would it be if the whole Schniziel situation turned out to be almost completely benign i.e
Schnizeil: Why u being so mean to me lelouch i just wanted Gay rights for brittanians
*hears Canon crying feintly in a corner*
lelouch: WHY DIDNT YOU JUST SAY SO YOU IDIOT (although i wouldve sed no…)
Suzaku:(thiking to himself) *yeh pft you’re one to talk*~smiles feintly~
    LOL

I wonder if lelouch now needs to put hardron cannons on the Great Brittania???

Greatest anime OF ALL TIME!!!!!! (prior to this it was Dragonball Z!! stop judging me!!! I LOVE A GOOD EXPLOSION)

Plus why most anime always ends ad certain episodes like 12eps, 24eps, 25eps,and 26eps.

  148. Kallen should become Kight of -1 !

Seriously, Kallen rocks more than the gay-grinning suzaku!!

  149. @Kalessin: it is a great episode except that they rushed it too much….I was wondering what remains for the last 4 episodes…I’m guessing that Schneizel will be the last boss and for the ending, since Charles is gone and his plan is ruined, I don’t know what kind of ending will be…fall of Lelouch as emperor and Schneizel wins? or another trainwreck ending?

…not to mention that the Damocles thing, I’m guessing that the weird thing above earth in the OP, (a space satellite, probably)and probably that thing that Toudou is up against in the op is Damocles- and those multiple green wedges = Britannia’s signature Float System, they’re like green . And since in epi 15, Schneizel looks happy after the FREIJA test is successfull and he will equip the Damocles with FREIJA…Hence, Damocles will be another weapon of mass destruction….and also it suggest the title of epi 24, Sky of Damocles….so Damocles is Schneizel’s secret weapon (against Lelouch?)

and the LOL thing in the official website:
    http://www.geass.jp/world_03.html
-I’m guessing that the grey block is Lelouch’s faction. But why include Luciano and the other useless characters (save for Rolo) who are dead? And also why include Charles and Marianne since Lelouch is against their crazy plan? Although i understand they include Odysseus, Carline and the first Britannian princess (including Arthur, LOL) since they were geassed by Lelouch.
-and also below the Black Knights faction, there is dark blue block which is composed of Nunnally, Guilford, Romeyer and the Glaston Knights.
-sorry i can’t read japanese header, someone please translate…

  150. Seems like Jeremiah will join knight of rounds ranks, and the spoilers about him will come true sadly! to bad coz he is the best side character in the show lol….

Also all I can say is LOL at black knights 180 degree spin from Zero to Shnaizel’s dogs, aren’t they pathetic?! Specially Ohgi, most pointless character for me, even Tamaki has more depth since he was a buddy of Zero…

Anyway our new Emperor will be really powerful now, suzaku, Anya (she will join him for sure?) Jeremiah, I guess some of the rounds too? and possibly Kallen…Even that crazy Nina was left behind wasn’t she? so he also has his hands on her…

    Can’t wait for next episode!

Who cares about the beans when the blastis lurking right around the corner. Do that fool really want to take out the world with that thing. Knowing all the plot twists, Sche will end up killing himself with the thing in some way or another.

  153. Personally, I don’t think that the fact that Lelouch and Suzaku are working together at this point is all that odd or that it’s stretching things (so to speak). To some extent, Lelouch has been coming to the realization this season that the means do matter on some level and Suzaku pretty much snapped recently and decided that if all you worry about is the means, then you’ll never reach the end that you looking for. Basically, between the two of them in this episode, they said that in order to achieve what you desire, you must take action, but that the actions you choose can cause you to lose other things. At minimum, they agreed that the emperor’s plan had to be stopped.

But really, Lelouch and Suzaku have been working towards the same basic goal all along. They wanted to create a better world than the one that Britannia had. It was how to go about it that they disagreed on. And after getting rid of the emperor, the best means of achieving their ends was to put Lelouch on the throne. As such, Lelouch defeated Britannia (perhaps not quite as he’d planned, but he dealt the leaders of Britannia a serious blow) and Suzaku has the opportunity to really change things from the inside. It was by far their best option.

The only thing that really would have stopped them from working together was the bad blood between them. Lelouch had killed Euphemia and Suzaku had killed Nunnally. We don’t know what they talked about after the emperor died (other than a few lines), but it seemed that Lelouch’s attitude, at least, was that such things were in the past and that they needed to move on if they wanted to achieve the better world that they’d been working towards. Suzaku may not have been very happy about that, but between the fact that he seems to have realized that Euphemia and Shirley trusted in Lelouch enough to not reveal that he was Zero and the fact that having Lelouch become emperor was the best plan, I don’t think that he had much of a choice. Plus, there’s every chance that he got Lelouch and/or C.C. to really explain what happened with Euphemia.

I really don’t think that it’s all that far-fetched at all far Lelouch and Suzaku to agree to work together at this point. It makes by far the most sense for the both of them. Their stubbornness is about the only thing that would stop them, but with them both understanding what the emperor was up to and both understanding why they did what they did, then I find it hard to believe that either of them would have given up this golden opportunity.

Of course, on a comedic note, as someone pointed out elsewhere, technically speaking, Lelouch is still stopping Suzaku from achieving his goals. He’ll never become Knight of One now. LOL.

  155. That maybe true Kalessin but suzaku is still owed at the VERY least a BITCH SLAP from Toudou ,Tamaki or Ougi for betraying Japan originally! wheres his excuse where his, ‘it was my parents fault’, where is his ,’i was geassed’? NOWHERE!!!!!

  156. This episode can be described with one word:

    Oomph!

Don’t give me any bullshit like “But Baph! Oomph isn’t a word! It’s an expression!” because that’s a load of crap. “Oomph!” is a word because I say it is. And that “Oomph!” was a positive one too. But does anyone think that if Jerry-boy catches wind of L-dog’s dissolving his mommy to death, he’ll go apeshit and reverse-geass the entire royal court? He’d have no power base at all after that, especially when Captain Lolicon realizes he got geassed. Hey, useless, sexually repressed human lumps can get angry when they find out they’ve been jerked around.

I can picture it now.. Odysseus does the “It’s just been revoked!” bit from Lethal Weapon 2 and fails it. Also, instead of the head he shoots L-dog in the foot, thus triggering the secret base self-destruct thing in his… foot. The Palace asplodes and Odysseus crawls from the wreckage victorious, with Kanon and Schniezel finally having gay marriage legalized they run away for some crazy man-sex, and everyone else is dead. The last line in the series is Odysseus saying “It was me! I’m the hero! Lulz!”

Epic. And then they do an American Graffiti-style ending:

Kanon and Schniezel ended up getting AIDS and dying 2 months later.

Rivalz got lucky with Milly, as she broke up with Mr. Pudding when he was caught masturbating on the disassembled components of his true love, the Lancelot Albion.

Rakshata and Toudou had a brief fling, but stopped seeing each other after an awkward date where he asked her if she knew what “bukkake” was. She did.

Having managed to not get himself killed, Tamaki fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming a Refrain-addict. Him and Zero are now best buddies.

C.C. later went on to become Pizza Hut’s spokesperson, unfortunately reality kicked in and she gained 300 pounds in a month. She was fired and later found dead in a ditch, a slice of pizza jammed in her… special place. She really liked pizza.

    Arthur is still a cat.

    And Rolo is still dead.

    The End.

    And the credits roll…

So, Suzaku finally teams up with Lelouch to actually do something that will seriously improve the world situation and you want to beat him up over it? Granted, he’s done plenty of things that he shouldn’t have, but it seems to me that it’s a lot more productive for him to turn a new leaf and help Lelouch make good, lasting changes rather than just be beat up or killed for the stupid stuff that he’s done. Punishing or killing him at this point wouldn’t help anything. He already appears to be doing the most effective thing that he could do towards actually defeating the attitude of “old” Britannia and freeing Japan.

    Kalessin

  160. I just figured out Schneizel’s plan for victory! Seeing as the Damocles is a space-sattelite with the ability to fire multiple FLEJA all over the world,I guess his plan for victory is to blow up anything and everything 😛

Hopefully, Suzaku can save everyone with Suzaku-Kick ^^

    Geekodot
  161. @ Geekodot and George…

About the spaceship you think is shooting multiple fleija’s in the opening.. That’s Jeremiah’s Knightmare, if you don’t believe me go and rewatch the opening… And to be honest i don’t see him firing of Fleija, it’s more likely to be the weapon that he’s been using all along.. You know all those rays shooting from his knightmare.

What that giant pilar is, that Todou is flying at I don’t know.. I’ll just go and take a look into Damocles a bit, maybe that may reveal something.

    LOL. That was fucking awesome!

So now everything has gone to pot, what a de facto family this is…

I mean just look at the mess:

    >Lelouch kills his brother Clovis(?)
    >Lelouch kills his sister Euphemia
    >Lelouch kills his mother Marianne
    >Lelouch kills his father Charles

Lelouch kills, Lelouch kills, Lelouch kills, Lelouch kills, Lelouch kills, Lelouch kills… And ends up with what?!?:

    >Geass upgrade
    >Mech upgrade
    >Title: Emperor
    >Lapdog: Suzaku as the Knight of Zero

All this makes me think that Lelouch will not survive the last 10 minutes of Code Geass R2.

    Moondoggiebuicuit
  163. Well, that’s the biggest change that I recall seeing for the character chart anytime recently ( http://www.geass.jp/correlative.html ). Who’d of ever thought to see Lelouch and Suzaku not only in the same group but also in the same group with Odysseus and the crazy princesses. Also, I think that this is the first time that Zero isn’t on it anymore. They got rid of some of the dead people too. I do wonder what it says about the connection between Lelouch and C.C. though (I think that it’s the same as what it said last week though, so it probably just says something like “accomplice” rather than anything new and interesting).

Looking at the chart, Lelouch looks seriously outnumbered. If he doesn’t get the OotBK to side with him, he’s not going to have much in the way of big name characters on his side – particularly not fighting ones. However, since Jeremiah is still on the side of the OotBK and Lelouch is going to be talking to Kallen next week, it’s not like the situation with those currently listed under the OotBK is going to remain the same. Not to mention, with Lelouch as emperor, maybe Viletta can both have Ougi and a title (though that would probably require getting on Lelouch’s good side and if he frees Japan outright, then it’s still going to be hard for her to stay with Ougi and have a Britannian title at the same time).

In any case, over the past few weeks, there have been big changes in whose on whose side and which sides there are. And it’s likely to continue to change for at least one more episode (though if Lelouch stabilizes his relationship with the OotBK and the UFN, we may see the final choosing of sides quite soon). In either case though, Lelouch’s choice of uniforms for Zero and the OotBK was way better than what he appears to be choosing for himself and some other group of Britannians that work for him (weird clothes indeed). Of course, speaking of clothes, I wonder why C.C. was in her straight jacket again this last episode. I believe that that’s the first time since some time in the middle of R1. Well, it’s not like who’s wearing what matters all that much. Oh well. Of bigger concern is why C.C. is looking so sad. Of course, if she’s supposed to die with a smile on her face, at least that means that she’s not going to die right now. 😉

    Kalessin
  164. Atleast that updated character chart is moving along the lines of 2 main forces. But I really don’t think the BKs will make that much of a difference, specially being led by Oogi. Next week should set the sides in stone, but that is not to say that some of those in the BKs won’t leave Oogi alone once the funk starts to hit the fan.

    Megas
  165. Everyone hit by the FLEIJA blast has been listed as dead ever since the episode after FLEIJA went off. Personally, I don’t know why they ever bothered marked them as MIA given that the next episode didn’t really do anything to confirm their deaths other than they didn’t show up in it. I suppose that it’s still possible that some of them are alive (assuming that Sunrise is willing to lie on their character chart or it only says what the characters think rather than what actually is), but at this point, I find it highly unlikely that any of them will show up. Though, after what we learned in this last episode, it looks like if Jeremiah were to use his Geass Canceler on Nunnally, she’d be able to see and walk again. If he did that, we’d get something better out of the Geass Canceler other than just setting Shirley up to die.

    Kalessin
  166. Well I looked into that Damocles thing as some suggest it is important, but to be honest I don’t think it will be that important.. It won’t suggest what might happen in future episodes.

It is just a saying that states; that there can be nothing happy for the person over whom some fear always looms?” This comes from the thought that power makes someone wary.

It is also used to denote the sense of foreboding engendered by the precarious situation, especially one in which the onset of tragedy is restrained only by a delicate trigger or chance. (just got this of wiki)

Allthough it’s not important in my opinion, but it does explain why Schneizel said: “give Lelouch everything, even Brittania”. It makes the chance of disrupting a delicate balance even bigger. The only flaw in Schneizel’s thinking is that he assumes that Lelouch wants to stay in power, as he (Schneizel) wants to.

But let’s face it Lelouch has already accepted that he’s probably not going to see the light of day to actually see what he has accomplished, neither does Suzaku. They’re not afraid to lose everything as long as their goal gets accomplished. And my guess is that regardless of who will win, the world will change.. Lelouch and Suzaku probably already planned on a tragic ending for themselves. This might explain both of their grins as they no longer fear the outcome of their actions.

But well maybe Schneizel just wanted to call some sort of uberweapon Damocles, just to make it sound cool. And in episode 23 the world will have something bigger to fear, then Geass.

    JordiBlau
  167. @JordiBlau: I rewatch the OP again and i kind of say that it looks like the Siegfied except you have to clarify for one thing……are you saying that Jeremiah will be going to space and the next episodes will be like Gundam? Great, Jeremiah is now Alejandro Corner of Gundam 00…..what’s next? And if think Damocles is not that important to you, then why is the title of epi 24, Sky of Damocles? http://koshimizu.livejournal.com/5369.html

  168. BTW, anybody thought about HOW Nunnally became a “witness” to the “assassination” of Marianne? Based on the flashback, there isn’t any logical way for her to be put in that position as they found her…

    Hazard
  169. @Hazard
The emperor rewrote Nunnally’s memory to make her think that she witnessed Marianne’s assassination. He rewrote Anya’s memory so that she thought that she hadn’t. He also made it so that Nunnally thought that she was lame and blind.

Nah maybe they just thought it looked cool to show the siegfried in space, but who knows this is CG.. It’s not like you can really predict what is about to happen, so maybe we are going to space in future episodes.

As for the importance of Damocles…I read the post from Geekodot, as he says damocles is a weapon hanging as a threat above everyone. But that’s not what Damocles is about, it is meant as a figure of speach. With this I mean to say that Damocles probably won’t be some giant weapon or the one important thing that will lead Schneizel to accomplishing his goals. My guess is that he calls the final result of all his past actions that led to this moment (where he believes he has won), damocles. In this context Damocles is merely a statement to declare something.

But as I said before maybe they liked the name and created some superweapon that bears the name Damocles. Well yes, than it would be quite important to the story.

Umm, they did it this last episode. Presumably, they discussed things after the emperor was dead and decided that having Lelouch take the throne would be the best way to ensure world peace and such. It means that – in a sense – Lelouch succeeded at destroying Britannia and Suzaku has the ultimate chance to change Britannia from the inside. What exactly they discussed and how exactly they got over their stubborness (particularly Suzaku) we don’t know since we didn’t see the whole conversation. Perhaps we’ll get some of it in flashbacks.

  177. But I still keep wondering though. For a guy who was just about to start a coupe d’etat, he had a freakin month to take over the position of emperor!! As he was already told by Bismarck that the emperor was dead, he knew more then all the other nobles in Britannia.

So the question is, did Schneizel want Lelouch to become emperor.. So that he would surface, was it a part of his plan, or has the guy just gone plain stupid for a whole month and never thought about taking up the throne.

Still that was pretty much his goal in episode 20, so something doesn’t add up.

The gods are figurative. V.V. himself said that there are no literal gods in the Geass universe.

-how the new gentle world was going to make them all become one

    Human instrumentality.

-how Lelouch used his Geass on the collective unconsciousness/Jupiter

Its a collective human conscious, so it makes sense that Lelouch’s Geass would work on it. Any number of things could have counted for its eyes.

  180. One thing that allowed Suzaku and Lelouch to “kiss and make up” (ewww, lol) was that they found a common value they shared – that it is wrong to force good on others. I very much agree with that. Lelouch’s parents were doing just that, so they earned the wrath of the two youngsters. CC very much agreed with the two boys.

Although they probably had issues to settle in the one month before the TV appearance. Maybe Suzaku was bitchslapping his friend: “You killed Euphy! You killed Euphy!” Then Lelouch returned via pinching, “You killed Nunnally! You killed Nunnally!” 😛

I like how this series is turning out, despite how others say it was mangled. Its mindboggling plot and surprises awe me at every turn. All hail Code Geass!

    Chino F
  181. @JordiBlau
If you’ll notice, back in episode 20, Schneizel didn’t really agree to become emperor. When someone (I forget who now) asked whether he’d become emperor after his father was taken care of, he said “perhaps.” He never outright said that he’d become emperor. He likely either has some plan where he wouldn’t be emperor, or he intended Odysseus to be emperor (since he was theoretically next in line) and he’d basically rule from behind the scenes, or he has a plan where he was going to rest the throne from Lelouch and then look good because instead of being a usurper, he’d be saving Britannia from a usurper.

In either case, he appears to have plans that would involve him ruling the world rather than just Britannia and he was obviously happy that Lelouch had finally come out and declared himself emperor. Whatever Schneizel is up to, Lelouch’s plan doesn’t seem to be worrying him just yet. Schneizel may not be as audacious as Lelouch, but his intelligence is on par with Lelouch’s, so he’s bound to have something pretty tricky up his sleeve.

In fact, in some ways, it’s better to have Schneizel be the end boss rather than the emperor since really Schneizel is a better opponent. The emperor was busy being arrogant, ignoring everyone else’s plans while Schneizel is scheming against Lelouch. Schneizel views Lelouch as an equal and rival on some level while the emperor only really ever looked down on him. This way we get a head to head confrontation of schemers – which we never really would have gotten between Lelouch and the emperor.

    Kalessin
  182. @Geekodot and @JordiBlau
I think that the thing in space in the OP does look at least somewhat like Jeremiah’s knightmare, but the shot is so quick that we see so little of it that it’s really hard to tell. I’m not about to say that it’s Jeremiah’s knightmare for sure or that it definitely isn’t.

In either case, there’s been nothing space-related in Code Geass thus far so having anything in space is weird. We don’t even know if anyone in the world of Code Geass has ever even been to space. However, even assuming that they were to send someone into space, I find it hard to believe that any knightmare is necessarily airtight enough (certainly I wouldn’t expect them to be re-entry capable even if you got them into space somehow). At least some of them can go under water, so maybe they are airtight enough for space, but keeping water out of something and keeping air in it are not exactly equivalent.

Really, it seems far-fetched to me that they’d have a knightmare in space – Jeremiah’s or otherwise – but given what we’ve seen of Code Geass thus far, having anything in space seems a bit odd. If I had to guess, I’d guess that the machine/ship thingy we see in space is not Jeremiah’s knightmare, but we’ll have to wait and see I guess.

    Kalessin
  183. I wonder also if it’s now reversed… as in Lelouch now employing Suzaku in the Lancelot against his former army, the Black Knights and Kallen’s Guren. He might have to fight the very army he founded.

    Chino F
  184. @Chino F
Given the summaries for episode 22 at http://koshimizu.livejournal.com/5369.html#cutid1 , I’m pretty sure that whoever Suzaku is fighting, it’s not the OotBK. Also, as you’ll recall, Lelouch was talking to Kallen in the preview, so I find it hard to believe that she’s going to be fighting Suzaku again. At least, I don’t see why she would. Though that would be kind of like how we never got the chance to see the Freedom and Justice duke it out in Gundam Seed.

Really, if Lelouch attempts to ally with the UFN and/or OotBK like you’d think he’d do if he’s really trying to achieve world peace, then I wouldn’t expect him to fight against the OotBK. They may or may not reconcile with him, but they may at least ally with him to the extent that they won’t be fighting one another.

I expect that we’re heading towards having Lelouch’s Britannia and the OotBK taking on Schneizel (who has all of the other Knights of Rounds it seems). The net result in terms of armies is that Lelouch will have a lot more mass-produced units than he had before and he’ll have Suzaku on his side. Other than that, his fighting strength would be basically the same. All of the major Britannian units (which consist primarily – if not exclusively – of the Knights of Rounds) appear to be with Schneizel at this point. So, he’s gained Suzaku and a bunch of mass-produced units, but that’s about it in terms of military strength.

Of course, what does all this mean for Lloyd? Presumably, Suzaku is going to have the Lancelot Albion which – last we heard – Lloyd had. I would have expected Lloyd to side with Schneizel though, so maybe Suzaku stole it during the last month or something. Regardless, it’ll be interesting to see how everyone deals with Lelouch becoming the emperor.

The only thing that could possibly be in space and make sense is the Damocles. The myth about Damocles is about Damocles who gets to be king for one day because he thinks the king is fortunate. At the Banquet that day, he notices a sword hanging above his head and asks to not be king anymore.

I believe having a weapon in space above everyones heads is something you could call the Damocles… It is also the only thing I can think of that logically belongs in orbit around earth in that show.

    Geekodot
  186. @Geekodot
Well, I wouldn’t put much faith in the source of names actually having much to do with what they mean in the show (after all, while Ragnarok did kind of mean the end of the world in Code Geass, it really wasn’t anything like the Norse Ragnarok). Still, if they’re actually going to put something in space, I suppose that it would make sense for it to be something new since they haven’t put anything in space yet. Still, I wouldn’t have expected them to put anything in space, so I guess that we’ll just have to wait and see what they do.

Well, if Lloyd went with Lelouch, the only major scientist that Schneizel would have would be Nina (who doesn’t exactly appear to be in the mood to create much after the FLEIJA incident). And with Schneizel supposedly creating this Damocles thing, I’d expect him to have at least one major scientist. Also, it’s Schneizel who’s been funding Lloyd this entire time so I get the impression that he’s at least somewhat loyal to Schneizel. Also, Lloyd wasn’t very enthused with Suzaku’s attitude the last time that they talked and I’m not sure that he’d necessarily like Suzaku’s attitude now either (though since we don’t really know what Suzaku’s attitude is at this point, it’s hard to say).

From the perspective of the plot, I’d expect Lloyd to stick with Schneizel, but I don’t think that that we can say for sure. For what it’s worth, however, Lloyd and Cecile are currently listed under Schneizel (though a lot of the information on the character chart could change next week once we really find out what Lelouch is up to and how the other characters react).

Other than the coloring (due to the difference in lighting no doubt) and the head, those really do identical. Assuming that that shot from the OP has anything to do with the show at all, it looks like Rakshata is going to replace the head properly and make it capable of going into space for some reason. I still think that the space bit is out of place, but it’s not like Code Geass hasn’t surprised us before.

  190. stupid question, but they used the war to draw out CC? In the first episode CC is caputered by Britannia and the war had already started long ago??

I’s pretty clear that Schneizel will be the main boss, that s also what the spoilers said.

  191. You know, technically, Lelouch and Suzaku are now both patricides. It’s one more thing that they have in common. Now, they each killed their fathers under quite different circumstances, but they’ve now both killed their fathers. They’ve both killed the woman/girl that the other cared about the most – both in circumstances where they didn’t want to but problems with Geass made it happen. And in both those cases, thousands (well, millions in the case of Suzaku) died as well. They keep having more and more in common in spite of the differences in how they’ve gone about things.

Of course, they’re finally on the same side now and so they can apply their significant skills to fighting the real enemy – Schneizel – rather than each other. Still, it’s interesting to see how many things they have in common and how that number has been increasing.

    Kalessin

The emperor didn’t know that Clovis had somehow managed to capture C.C. So, Clovis had had her for who knows how long prior to the beginning of season 1. Still, the war itself happened 7 years prior to the beginning of R1 at which point C.C. was clearly free since she was watching Lelouch and Suzaku when the Britannians first attacked Japan (back at the very beginning of season 1). Obviously, the emperor failed to draw out C.C. with that war, but Clovis still managed to get his hands on her one way or another. But since he didn’t tell his father, the emperor still didn’t have her….

  193. @Kalessin: I read your post (dated 4:36 pm on September 3rd, 2008) and I was thinking if anyone in Code Geass sent someone in space. In real history, Russia is the first country to do space exploration (first satellite in space, first dog to be sent in space and first man to be sent to space) followed by the US who later were the first to explore the moon. Now in Code Geass since US doesn’t exist (i was wondering if Russia also did the first space exploration in CG history) and since CG history is distorted (like i was wondering if the two World Wars ever happened or not), I bet the Britannia didn’t even bother about space exploration.

oh yeah, regarding the rumor that

The whole thing indeed screems “Human Instrumentality Project”, but in CG it is still a lot more simplistic and easier to understand. To me it looks like a poor copy and not “outdoing” v.v

    >The emperor didn’t know that Clovis had somehow managed to capture C.C. So, Clovis had had >her for who knows how long prior to the beginning of season 1

    >but Clovis still managed to get his hands on her one way or another. But since he didn’t >tell his father, the emperor still didn’t have her….

So Clovis was a lot more intelligent and had better ideas than his father, who tried for so many years? Sounds a bit weird that he would have managed the one thing his father was trying to do with all his might … but, ok, maybe CC just happened to stumble across his path. Really would have liked to see the emperors face when he found out about the whole thing, when he talked to Clovis afterwards. “CLOVIS YOU “é(a&è_”çé)”à, you’re lucky to be dead already” XD

  196. Actually, that has kind of been something that Lelouche wanted from the beginning …to make Suzaku his knight. I mean, even though he put Kallen in a group of his bodyguards, she was never more than his ace pilot at anytime. SHe was never singled out to be Lelouche’s protector, but instead, was placed as the head of those whom were responsible to protect him.

I don’t know how to say this, but Kallen’s relationship with Lelouche is still severly one sided. The boy doesn’t even recognize she is alive unless he needs her, and to be quite frank, Kallen was one of his objectives when it came to rescuing Nunnelly before Freya, but not really on his search and rescuse list. IF they managed to find her …all good, but if now, well she was a goner.

Maybe he will change now, because he can see the similarities between himself and his father now, but for the most part, I have to say this to everyone …there is no Kallen and Lelouche.

Hell, C.C has a better chance, and she is an immortal witch.

  198. so now logically C.C. has to wait for lelouch to look old enough to be immortal as emperor and no one notice he hasnt aged in 6 months or wait for lelouch to accomplish his goals and then put someone else controllable on the throne whos not gonna undo all his hardwork!!!

  199. as much as i do not like suzaku, i think the series has enough hints that suzaku+lelouch would be an awesome combo. in a way, it might be the best way for the show to end- i.e. by building up schneizel to be the ultimate bad boss. if what my guess of that which as happened in that one month is correct, perhaps suzaku, like lelouch, has already reached a level of enlightenment on his own. this should mean that the collaboration should be genuine. jeremiah is almost certainly going to join up with lelouch, given that his loyalty is to lelouch, not to zero (god save ougi who lied to him and therefore denied his tempest of loyalty!)

anyway, the r’ship dynamics between lelouch and c.c. seems to have changed as well- even though her memories are retrieved, she seems to be meek towards him- as if her memories of him treating her well even though he was her master remained as well

  202. Lelouch definitely cares about Kallen. He wanted her to go back to Ashford with him when everything was done (though that obviously isn’t going to happen now). He nearly freaked out when she was captured when he’s normally pretty cool-headed. He apologized to her that he didn’t save her sooner (Lelouch almost never apologizes). He also pretty clearly didn’t want her to die along with him when the Black Knights were going to kill him. He definitely cares about her.

That being said, I still agree with Silentveil that the relationship is rather one-sided. Kallen clearly has a major crush on Lelouch while it’s not at all clear that Lelouch cares about her beyond how he’d care about a close friend. She definitely wants to be in a relationship with him, but he may not be looking to be in a relationship with her. However, I don’t agree with Silentveil that there’s no way that we’re going to have Lelouch X Kallen. I think that it’s quite possible it this point, but I don’t think that it’s at all clear that it’s going to happen either.

The truth of the matter is that while Lelouch definitely cares about his friends, he’s not generally all that open about his emotions, so figuring out whether he’s even close to being in love with anyone – as opposed to simply caring about them – is nigh on impossible.

  203. @WingZero zxt
Personally, I think that Evangelion is highly overrated. It’s got a ton of psychological mumbo jumbo that I think is totally stupid (though some people think it’s really cool). The mecha are cool and yet totally lame at the same time (they can’t even fight without a power cord). Every character in it has a bucket load of psychological problems. The main character makes just about any wimpy character you can think of seem totally manly. The ending was so bad that they made a movie just to remake the ending and even that was still pretty bad. I could on….

I mean, obviously Evangelion is good enough that a lot of people really like it, but it’s got a whole lot of stuff about it that just isn’t very good. It certainly could have been a whole lot better than it is. While I do like it, I also really don’t. I can understand why people would really like it, but not why so many people would think that it’s the best anime ever.

Also, if you’re at all interested in avoiding lots of blood and gore or a lot of fan service and sexual content, then don’t go anywhere near it. There are plenty of shows that are worse in that regard, but it’s still pretty bad (they even talk about the fan service in the previews!). Though I suppose that if you’re looking for that sort of thing, then that’d be a reason to watch it….

Really, Evangelion is one of those shows that many people either love or love to hate. Personally, I think that you should avoid it. It’s good, but not all that good, and I think that your time would be better spent elsewhere. But I’m sure that plenty of other people will tell you that it’s a must see.

Ok, i’ll agree it’s similiar to Jeremiah’s knightmare, but then we gotta ask wtf its doing there 😛

It might also be that Schneizel’s Damocles is identical (though i don’t really believe it myself), but there really is nothing else that would possibly be in space in these series… and i assume space has a role in these series (but in that case only just around earth).

Im pretty unsure what to think now…

  206. For everyone who thinks that Kallen is not valuable to Lelouch you are all wrong. He called her his biggest pawn of all so that she wouldn’t die with him when he was about to get executed, hence why he said “Kallen, live on”. Lelouch does not show his emotions because of his pride, especially when he is Zero.

Now there was a Knightmare that caught my eye during the intro last week that I didn’t may too much attention too before.

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v133/greekoptimus/UnknownKnightmare.jpg

It looks like an upgraded form of the Tristan, so I guess Gino will be getting an upgrade also! Another interesting thing is that all of those Knightmares have helped or become allies of Lelouch in one way or another. Lancelot Albion is know Lelouch’s, Kallen, Xing-Ke, Holy Blade Akatsuki, Mordred (Marriane took away Bismarc from the situation). Now it will be interesting to see if the trend of the intro will continue or not, will Gino team up with his love Kallen, best friend Suzaku and the deceptive Lelouch, or will he team up with the deceptive Schneizel.

  207. I have abolutely no idea about what it could be doing in space. Maybe they just made it because it looks cool. But I always had the idea that Lelouch and Suzaku would get back together again, just because of the ED, where they are shown together.. Some other things could be predicted from the OP and ED. So my guess is that anything can happen, even some space scene.

With that mentioned.. Did anyone ever notice that 2 of the characters with angel wings in the ED actually died (Nunnaly, Shirley)except for Sayoko, she doesn’t have them.. Might the ED predict to some extent whose about to die.. C.C. also has angelwings and Schneizel, Lelouch and Suzaku are shown, with statues of wings in the background.

  208. @Grimjaw i say one thing ang everyone responds Kallen IS important! how cool is that my subtle remark caused this much response! btw guys i also DO think kallen is important but at the same time she seems to be taking a back seat to everything! at the very least you can say that they arent getting ready to kill her off because there hanst been an episode dedicated to her other than the fact she got captured. HOWEVER her ending up with Gino concerns me!!! since we all know one way or another that Gino will end up with the blakc knights (there are no spoiler tags cos its bin mentioned a bunch of times, only the ones with the best stuff to say blog this late into the week [ill exclude myself!]and since we know the tristan gets an upgrade and Gino hates schniziel as much as we all do then is obvious he ends up with the OotBk!) and him and Kallen have a randomly good relationship (which better be explained ina picture book of some kind!) its reasonably possible that she will end up with him!! hopefully thats just the writers trying to scare us into to worrying! More importantly the Tristan (whos name i could never remember up til now!) has 2 Giant pink swords not Totally unlike bismarks (it sorta reminds me of sword Impulse from Seed Destiny)

@JordiBlau LOl regarding the ending has anyone else noticed that Nina is the only character who still looks ugly in the ending. all the other seem to be well designed (to the point where i would really like drawings from the ending sequences of Code Geass to be a poster at the very least!) but nina EWWW!(even LLOYD looks Dapa!) btw im not a hentai fan or an anime girl lover (which is why it took me this long to notice this point)

Also every time i see the pictue of shirley.. Thats when im saddened by her death the most! its such a moving picture!

  209. @WingZero zxt
I don’t think that it’s clear at all that Gino will be joining the OotBK. I’m aware of no actually spoilers on the matter. The only support that I’ve seen for it is the OP (which could mean something but might not). He certainly wasn’t happy to see that Lelouch had taken the throne. Granted, there’s every chance that he had no clue who Lelouch really was before that point, but still, it doesn’t look like he’s thinking that he should side with Lelouch and Suzaku. It looks more like he considers Lelouch to be a usurper and patricide and that he must, therefore, be opposed. Schneizel considered getting rid of the emperor, but he didn’t actually succeed and he didn’t try and take the throne after the emperor disappeared, so I could easily see how Gino would side with Schneizel over Lelouch. Certainly, his reaction to Lelouch taking the throne supports that. It’s certainly not impossible that Gino will decide to side with Lelouch, but I seriously question it.

As for Gino X Kallen, Gino has shown far more interest in Suzaku than Kallen – even when he was talking to Kallen. His main interest in Kallen (other than finding out more about Suzaku from her) appears to be an interest in fighting her with knightmares. Gino X Kallen certainly isn’t impossible, but I don’t think that there’s much support for it. If she were to end up with anyone other than Lelouch, Gino is probably the best candidate, but he’s still not a very good one.

    Kalessin
  210. One thing that worries me and have been worrying me through the whole series is when we get the story about Naoto (Kallen’s brother). I’ve been waiting since season 1 for it and with this next episode, it’s their last chance. Any later than that and it would just be lame 😛

    Geekodot
  211. The writers have had moments with both Kallen and C.C. where they were obviously building a relationship with Lelouch. Shirley did as well (though arguably not as many), but she’s dead now. I think that it’s fairly obvious that both C.C. and Kallen care a great deal about Lelouch. In the case of Kallen, it’s obvious that she has a major crush on him. In the case of C.C., I don’t think that it’s quite as obvious, but I still think that it’s pretty clear that she has some kind of romantic interest in him. Both girls are fairly close to him. I think that they’d both like to be with him. From that standpoint, both Kallen and C.C. stand a chance of being Lelouch’s love interest. Certainly, they’re the women who are by far the closest to him at this point. The major question is Lelouch himself.

He obviously cares about both women, but he doesn’t tend to show his emotions much – particularly romantic ones. As such, it’s really hard to gauge how interested he is in them romantically. However, I think that he’s obviously interested in them enough that it would not be at all out of place for him to choose go pursue a romantic relationship with either of them. What’s unclear is whether he will.

So, I don’t think that it makes any sense to say that there’s no way that he’ll be with Kallen or that there’s no way that he’ll be with C.C. However, it’s also stretching things to say that he definitely end up with either of them. It really could go either way.

As for the chances of having Lelouch X Kallen, all Lelouch has to do is say that he loves her and they’re together. I think that that’s really all there is to it. It’s totally up to Lelouch. She definitely wants him so it’s just a question of whether he wants her. As such, I think that there’s a very good chance that they’ll end up together. But, it does rely on Lelouch actually feeling that strongly about her, so we’ll definitely have to wait and see.

As for the chances of having Lelouch X C.C., that situation is quite a bit more complicated. I certainly don’t think that it’s as simple as Lelouch telling her that he’s in love with her and she’s his. For one, there’s the immortality issue and two, she’s just plain a lot more complicated emotionally-speaking than Kallen is.

I don’t think that Lelouch would have any problem marrying an immortal C.C. I also don’t think that she’d have a problem with living with Lelouch rather than dying. Her true wish is to be genuinely loved (even if it’s more of a subconscious one) rather than to die. So, her wish to be loved would override her wish to die. However, if she’s still immortal, then ultimately, Lelouch will die and she’ll be alone again. Given how big a deal the writers made of C.C. being immortal being a bad thing, I’d expect them to want to fix it. That means 1 of 3 things:

    1. She dies (no Lelouch X C.C.).
    2. She loses her code or seals it as before, losing her memories again and dies later. (there would probably be no Lelouch X C.C. since it would be the slave girl version of C.C.).
    3. She loses her code in some other manner that renders her mortal but doesn’t steal her memory (possible Lelouch X C.C.).

Number 1 is a distinct possibility, but we don’t know of any way of killing C.C. other than having Lelouch taking her code (which she wouldn’t want him to do and I can’t see them doing. Lelouch would search for another way to fix her rather than taking her code). I think that number 2 would be totally lame (been there, done that – if they were going to have her that way in the long run, why bother fixing her in the first place?). Number 3 would be my preferred scenario, but just like killing her without making Lelouch immortal, they’d need to come up with something new. That being the case, it’s probably not that much more unlikely than C.C. dying since they’d need to come up with something new in that case as well.

Now, assuming that the immortality issue is out of the way, it’s still not like all Lelouch has to do is tell C.C. that he loves her and they’re together. She’s just too complicated emotionally. She has to actually acknowledge that she’s in love with Lelouch and wants to be with him. I’m not sure how much she’s really acknowledged it to
herself – let alone Lelouch. She certainly appeared to be denying to Marianne previously that she was interested in Lelouch and I get the impression that she’s generally not all that open with herself about how she feels about things. She’s rather closed emotionally. So, I think that it’s up in the air as to how much she’s admitted to herself about her feelings for Lelouch. In either case, however, that still leaves the matter of her admitting it to Lelouch.

All that being the case, Lelouch is likely going to have to do something to make her open up or something is going to have to happen to make her freak out enough to make her emotions come to the surface (and she shows her emotions even less than Lelouch). So, she may want to be with Lelouch, but due to how closed she is emotionally, it could take a lot for her to actually open up even if he wants her to.

So, basically what it comes down to is that Kallen X Lelouch has a high chance of happening – if only because all it takes is Lelouch going for it – but since Lelouch is so close emotionally and we don’t know exactly how he really feels, it’s hard to say whether it will happen. For C.C. X Lelouch to happen, the immortality issue has to be dealt with (but it probably has to be dealt with anyway) and C.C. has to open up (in addition to Lelouch deciding to go for it). So, it has a decent chance of happening, but it’s going to take a lot more for it to happen than it would for Kallen X Lelouch.

Both pairings stand a decent chance of happening but both have definite obstacles as well (though C.C. X Lelouch has much larger obstacles than Kallen X Lelouch). And, of course, there’s the question of whether Lelouch being with one precludes him being with the other. Normally, it would, but his father had multiple wives, so we can’t rule out the possibility that he’d end up with both girls. Of course, we can’t really rule out the possibility that he’s not going to end up with either (though if they were really going to do that, I would have expected even less romantic development over all). We can’t really rule at anything at this point with those two pairings. We’re really just going to have to wait and see.

    Kalessin
  212. Well there might be one other person able to take the code from C.C., which is Bismarck (I don’t see it happening though) but it would open up a C.C. x Lelouch ending.

Next episode I want to know what his geass is about. I just noticed that in the extended preview Bismarcks right is open, and it shows a geass mark. He looks like he’s going crazy..

    JordiBlau
  213. @JordiBlau
Well, if C.C. simply loses her code to someone else (be it Lelouch, Bismark, or whoever), then we’ll just get slave C.C. again. If you go back and watch where V.V. loses his code, you’ll see that he actually lost his memory as well at that point (though it’s not quite as obvious as it was with C.C.). So, no matter who takes her code, unless they find a way to do things differently or restore her memory once her code has been taken, her losing her code means that she loses her memory and that would almost certainly ruin any chance of Lelouch X C.C.

Not to mention, if someone other than Lelouch took her code, then they’d have to worry about how to kill him. And if Lelouch took it, it’s not really any different from C.C. keeping it other than the fact that C.C. would then have lost her memory and Lelouch would be without his Geass. You’re still stuck with one of the main characters being immortal.

Really, they’re going to have to come up with something interesting to get around the whole immortality issue since the writers seem to have made it something that the main characters are going to want to get rid of and yet, normally, it can only be passed around, not gotten rid of.

  216. I was noticing something about the extended preview for episode 22. It seems to be building up to this meeting with Kallen.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bn2hCG6pIs
It’s just in the extended preview you can see Kallen looking up(00:06), most likely to Lelouch. Later you see Lelouch serious, but he suddenly looks left and downward(00:12). Perhaps he just noticed her there. His expression changed. he goes from serious to a softer more pleased expression. At the end of the preview we see the scene of them walking together(00:25).
I find it a bit interesting that it seems these three scenes appear are related to each other. The scenes are split apart and build up.
That should be an interesting conversation. I can’t think of any reason why she would work against him. They are in Ashford. There is the trend that most things positive happen at Ashford. This episode looks to be the calm before the story. Much like with last season. There was the Ashford episode where it looked like everything would go well, then the twist of Euphy being accidentally Geassed.
I already know what the twist is going to be in this season. It’s assured that Schneizel will attack with an incredible force to throw a wrench in everything positive that seems to be happening.

I noticed a trend in the episode summaries. At least the ones that are accompanied with pictures. I did a posting in a forums about it in detail, but it does have a spoiler involving the next episode. Though you might not catch it unless you can’t read Japanese.

Check it out. If my theory is right it could mean Kallen will have a pretty big role to this event. Could be a positive or a negative one.

  217. @Kalessin

    About your pairing post.
Don’t you find it odd that C.C. is back in her prison clothes? Not only that but she’s still literally hiding in the shadows. Why is she still hiding? No one is hunting her any more. She was never known to the public as a member of the Black Knights.
If she was going to play a big role to Lelouch why keep hiding her? It would look kind of odd for the Emperor to be seen walking around in public with a woman in prisoner clothes.
We also learned that while C.C. didn’t betray Lelouch. She knew about Charles’ plan and Marianne’s death all along and never told him. All this time she watched as he started a war and killed his siblings. She knew this was about finding his mother’s killer.

The show has teased at Kallen all season. She’s known to have never had a first kiss and there were two near misses with Lelouch within three episodes. Both Shirley and C.C. had kisses with Lelouch. Kallen is a popular character. Why leave her out?
Kallen’s entire development this season has been about learning more and more about Lelouch. She’s hardly done anything else. It was Kallen who brought up the topic of Lelouch with Nunnally. That surprised Nunnally. Kallen spent the lions share of her time in prison learning about the kind of gentle brother Lelouch was to Nunnally. Silly details like how he played Santa for his sister. If you see the latest Picture Drama. Kallen has all these pictures of Lelouch. they are suppose to be surveillance for the mission, but most are just of Lelouch doing common things. Kallen points out one picture particular to ask C.C. about. It’s an image of Lelouch playing the piano. C.C. explain that Lelouch learned to play the piano when he was three years old. How would that be relevant to the mission? The whole scene was just about Kallen learning more about Lelouch’s past and personality from C.C. As they are going through the pictures the same music plays as was in the scene when Kallen fell on top of Lelouch and they almost kissed.
There has only been episode where her character hasn’t appeared. Two where where she didn’t have a speaking role.
Kallen was also the only person who went to look for Lelouch when Nunnally was made governor. C.C. just sat around in the sub talking with Marianne.
See my posting right above that may hint that Kallen may get to shine next episode.

I just wonder if nothing comes of this build up. What was the point of all these scenes and her character’s entire development this season? It just feels to go way too deep then for just loyalty or friendship. She even was willing to die with Lelouch. All she wanted to know is what she was to him. She was pleading, ‘Come on! Please, Tell me!”. Lelouch then lies to her. Breaking her heart, but saving her life.
Like I said. What was the point of so many scenes if it leads to nothing at all?

  218. @Remmell
On some level, I could say the same of C.C. in that they’ve built up her relationship with Lelouch over time. However, in her case, you could at least argue that it’s had a definite impact already. After all, it was thanks to that build up that she resisted the emperor back in episode 15. Still, I question that that’s that relationship building was leading to, so I’m not about to write off Lelouch X C.C. at this point.

However, you bring up a totally valid point that it would seem rather pointless to have built up Lelouch X Kallen so much and then do nothing with it. Given that fact, Lelouch X Kallen seems very likely.

Most of what I was discussing in my previous paring post was the likelihood of either pairing coming about due to how the girls feel about Lelouch, how he feels about them, and how easy it would be for the to get together. I didn’t focus that much on the build up other than to point out that there was plenty of build up for both.

At this point, I think that Kallen X Lelouch is very likely. As far as feasibility goes, as I said, about all it takes is Lelouch telling her that he likes her and you’ve got Kallen X Lelouch. As far as likelihood goes, between the fact that it’s so feasible and all the build up that they’ve done around Kallen X Lelouch this season which would likely go to waste otherwise, Kallen X Lelouch seems highly likely.

C.C. X Lelouch is rather less feasible as I pointed out. However, I think that they both like each other enough for it to come about. Even if C.C. had been involved in the emperor’s plans, she sided with Lelouch in the end. The main gripe that he’s likely to have is that she didn’t tell him more before, but it’s not like she’s ever been very informative. Given the build up that they’ve done over time, I would think that C.C. X Lelouch would be quite likely, but due to the obstacles in the way that I outlined before, it seems rather less likely than Kallen X Lelouch. But they’re primarily obstacles that they’re going to have to get around anyway (it’s not like they’re going to leave C.C. immortal given how big a deal they made out of her being immortal being bad), so I don’t really think that that rules out much.

At this point, my guess would be that we’re either going to get Kallen X Lelouch or we’re going to get both Kallen X Lelouch and C.C. X Lelouch. It’s rather hard to call at this point – particularly since we have no idea whatsoever about what they’re going to do about C.C. being immortal.

Now, I am worried about why C.C. is looking so sad and why on earth she’s back in that straight jacket. Of course, she wore it an awful lot in season 1, so it’s not like she’s made much effort to avoid wearing it. She’s never really been big about being in the spotlight either, so the fact that she’s not showing herself publicly with Lelouch doesn’t mean much (though it might make her that much more reticent to actually get together with Lelouch since he’s emperor). It’s Lelouch that she’s always cared about.

Regardless, however, you have to wonder what she thinks about the current developments and what her plans are. Once she ditched the emperor and Marianne, she was pretty much floating around and didn’t find much purpose until she met up with Lelouch. And now that the emperor and Marianne are gone, about the only thing that’s going to keep her from just wanting to die somehow is her feelings for Lelouch.

In any case, this post is getting insanely long as too many of my posts do, so I think that I’ll wrap it up. I think that both pairings are highly possible – if not highly probable. Kallen X Lelouch is more likely from the standpoint that a lot of character development would be otherwise wasted. Lots of character development has also gone into C.C. X Lelouch, but that has had a direct enough impact on the plot that it wouldn’t be wasted in quite the same way if it was never fully realized. So, like I said, I expect that we’ll either get Kallen X Lelouch or both Kallen X Lelouch and C.C. X Lelouch (would that become Kallen X Lelouch X C.C. ? 😉 ).

  219. @Kalessin

Yeah, I’m not trying to say that C.C.xLelouch can’t happen at all. I think you’d have to be a blind idiot to not see the possibility behind it.
I was more just trying to question that if Kallen doesn’t come out on top, or close to it; what was the point of her entire season then?
Some people question if Lelouch cares about her. I remember in the episode Kallen got captured. Out of everyone on the Ikaruga it was Leluoch who panicked and called out her her. That surprised Kallen, everyone on the bridge, and even C.C. looked shocked by his outburst. Against the advice of Diethard. Lelouch risked near defeat in a haphazard attempt at a rescue.
She was also the first thing he asked about when Xingke killed the Eunuch Generals. He talked about Suzaku taking what was his.
If you listen to the previews, extended or regular, from Kallen’s capture. They are all Lelouch’s voice. In those Kallen gets a mention in almost all of them. In the extended preview of episode 18. It was translated for me. At the end he talks about Nunnally, but after Nunnally is mentioned Lelouch hollers out, “I must save Kallen!”.
After her rescue Lelouch gives Kallen an unprompted apology for not coming sooner and asks for her forgiveness. When was the last time he’s ever apologized to anyone?
I’m just pointing out that there are ‘signs’ for Lelouch’s interest. Just unclear if those are romantic ones.
Every romantic scene these two have ever had all season is always interrupted by something. MAYBE this is the way the writers intended to build their relationship slowly so it wouldn’t feel mushy, and save the conclusion to the end? That’s just my guess though.
Like when C.C. interrupted Lelouch while Kallen was on top of him. She’s just happens to bring up her hot sauce. She asks herself out loud, “What should I do?” Kallen responds with “What should we do?”, but in a tone that implies she’s not thinking about hot sauce. That’s when Kaguya chimes in over the intercom.
What would be the reason behind all of this? The scene feels a little too strong to just be a joke scene. Even the music was tender and emotional.

I just found it odd that C.C. is hiding in the shadows again. No one is hunting her anymore. She was hiding from Charles. The only thing we don’t know about C.C. now is her name. Every other question about her has been answered. The fact she’s in prisoner clothes tells me she wont be out in public with Lelouch now. They had a month. They couldn’t just give her a dress? She had that nice white one at the end of season one.

I agree that C.C. immortality is a big obstacle. He made a promise to her that she would die with a smile. The only way that could happen is if Lelouch was to take C.C. Code. The immortality is already a problem. Right now Lelouch and Kallen and Suzaku are all 18 years old going on 19. C.C. still has the body of a 16 year old. Biologically they have two years ahead of her. Not like age differences make much difference in this series. No one batted an eye about a 30 year old man marrying a 13 year old girl.
It’s not like Lelouch could become immortal with C.C. There is only the one Code since he destroyed Charles.
I guess there is also the possibility that C.C. could seal her Code again and she would be mortal again, but with the mind of a 10 year old slave girl. There is the possibility she could go to Ashford, get educated, make friends, and finally get the giant pizza. Problem with this one. Would that mean the C.C. we know would just be trapped for eternity in the World of C? That’s not very nice, or would she pass away when the mortal C.C. does?
I tried to think of a way that Lelouch gets C.C.’s Code and then seals it himself somehow. Yes, he would lose all the memories he’s had up to the point he got the power, but the Geass would be gone from the world. The problem is that he would have to kill her to get her Code. Is it even possibly to just seal your Code at will? It would just seem horrid that Lelouch would take her life. To me it would feel nicer for the young C.C. to return and live a happy mortal life. I just don’t see how you could get that without the C.C. we know being trapped in the World of C. That’s not pleasant either.
    The immortality issue is confusing.

  220. @Remmell
It’s definitely odd that C.C. is back in the straight jacket (I would have thought that it would be long gone. It’s the first time that she’s worn it this season I think), but she kept on wearing it in season 1 long after she had other clothes to wear. Maybe she likes it for some reason. Still, it’s weird. What I find more worrisome is the fact that she’s so obviously sad. I have to wonder why.

Personally, I don’t think that the 16 year body is that big a deal given that the person inside it is hundreds of years old (though the older Lelouch gets, the weirder it would be). However, if she did become mortal, then presumably she’d age and that problem would go away. However, the only way that we’ve been presented with thus far for someone with a code to truly lose that code in a manner that no one else got it was getting turned into pink sparkles by the World of C. The only other way to not really have a code (though they don’t actually lose it) is for it to be sealed away (which is arguably a huge plot hole since if it’s that easy to become mortal again, you’d think that all the Geass people who wanted to die would do it). In either case, however, the person loses their memories. If we are to have a mortal C.C. with all her memories, then we’re going to need a new way for her code to be disposed of. And, of course, we have no way of knowing whether the writers have come up with such a way.

Assuming that no such way exists, I think that the most likely scenario is that after discussing it with Lelouch (and possibly even after they made their feelings clear to one another), she locks away her code, becoming mortal and losing her memory, thus forever preventing anyone from gaining a Geass (assuming that the seal never gets broken, of course). If that happens, I find it highly unlikely that we’ll get C.C. X Lelouch (though C.C. may very well continue to hang out with him in such a case). It would, however, give her the opportunity to have a fresh start on life and eventually die of old age, so as tragic is it might be, it wouldn’t be all bad.

Basically, given the fact that the writers have clearly shown that immortality is a bad thing in the world of Code Geass, either they’re going to find a way to kill her in spite of her code, they’re going to find a way to free her of her code without her losing her memories, or they’re going to have her seal her code up and then either die or (more likely) just live until she dies of old age. So, any chance of C.C. X Lelouch pretty much hangs on whether or not there’s another way to deal with her immortality problem since I can’t believe that they’re going to leave her immortal in the end and I have a hard time believing that they’re going to pair up Lelouch with the slave girl version of C.C. (then you get a 10 year old mind in a 16 year old body – though she’d age in that case).

And as for Kallen X Lelouch, again, I totally agree that it would be a big waste of character development if it never happened. Also, Lelouch has shown definite signs of caring about her. What he hasn’t done is make it clear that he cares about her romantically. However, one could argue that the only people he’s shown anywhere near that emotion towards are the three women that he’s had as potential love interests (Shirley, Kallen, and C.C.) and Nunnally. That would tend to imply that he cares more about Kallen than he would someone who was simply a close friend. In either case, however, I think that we’ll get to find out in the next episode how he really feels about Kallen (if nothing else, she seems pretty determined to get it out of him at this point).

    Kalessin
  221. @Kalessin

There is the question about what answer Kallen wants out of Lelouch. I don’t think it will be whether or not he betrayed the Black Knights. The fact that Kallen is out in the open at Ashford in her Black Knights clothes tells me that she’s no longer a wanted person in Japan. Most likely Lelouch calls for an end to the war and frees Japan. If he frees Japan like they always wanted, how could she possibly believe he betrayed them. He just handed them their dream.
I’ll be interested to see if Lelouch called Kallen to meet him at Ashford, if Kallen found him there on her own, or if she remembered that Lelouch asked her to join him at Ashford once the war was over.
In that Extended Preview I linked to. Lelouch looks rather serious as he’s talking to someone. Suddenly he looks down at to the left. I’m pretty sure he just noticed Kallen watching him from below. His expression becomes softer. It’s like she just caught his eyes and he didn’t expect her there.

There was an audio drama that explained why C.C. wore that prisoner clothes. She told Lelouch was that she felt like it suited her. A person trapped in time and alone. Hearing this irritates Lelouch and he goes to his computer to order her a dress. I think it’s the white one she ends up wearing.
I don’t know if we will get our answer in this coming episode, but it stands a good chance.

  222. @Remmell
Well, she definitely wears the straight jacket even after she started wearing other stuff, but she does wear it less and less as season 1 progressed and I think that this is the first time that she’s worn it in season 2. If she wore it before because she felt that it suited here because she was trapped in time and alone, that doesn’t say good things about her current emotional state if she’s taken to wearing it again. In either case, I can totally see Lelouch getting annoyed about her feeling that way and getting her new clothes. That sounds like it could be a funny scene to listen to (maybe Bandai will continue to translate drama CD’s like they did with the first one – I can hope).

As for Kallen, I thought that it was pretty clear that the answer she wanted from Lelouch was for the question she asked him right before he lied to make her leave him and live (that is, she wanted to know what she was to him). Certainly freeing Japan should make the OotBK happier with him even if they don’t decide to trust him outright. In Kallen’s case, however, it would probably be enough to make her trust him like she did before. She’s so loyal to him that it takes a lot to really shake her and given that kind of reason to trust him, I find it hard to believe that she wouldn’t.

    Show Spoiler ▼

In either case, I think that we can expect that Japan will be at least partially – if not totally – free quite soon and that Lelouch will make some sort of alliance with his old allies even if he doesn’t end up leading them again.

    Kalessin
  223. You know, it’ll be funny if Kallen becomes Empress because then not only will the Emperor of Britannia have married one of the numbers but an Eleven! Given what’s been happening in Japan, I think that it’s safe to say that the Elevens are the most rebellious of the numbers. And, of course, on top of marrying an Eleven, he’d be marrying a known terrorist! That would look entertaining on the world stage.

    Kalessin

And yes, Lelouch looks way overdressed in the preview. His Zero outfit was way better. We can only hope that the new outfit is temporary (be it just for formal occasions or whatever)….

    Kalessin
  227. I’ve been thinking about it for days, and the only way I can see Lelouch gaining the respect or power of the Black Knights again is if he gives them Japan without any strings attached. But even then I’m still a bit skeptical since they think he massacred the Japanese on purpose.

Anyone have ideas on another way he can gain their trust again?

    Grimjaww
  228. Wouldn’t it be more logical for Kallen next episode, to ask if and why he ordered Euphie.. And not what he feels for her. I know a lot of people are looking for possible pairings. But since she’s always felt strong about Japan and she didn’t know that he ordered euphie when he told her to live on, wouldn’t it be the most natural answer that she would demand of him at this moment.

When she was in the Guren last episode, she had a bit of an off look. Like there was something bothering her, she looked pretty pissed. It wasn’t really a look of someone who is going to ask another person how he feels about her. My guess is, that before there is going to be any development between those too, she wants this issue cleared.

But the question is, will Lelouch be honest about it. If he dies the same as when Suzaku asked him about it all, that would be it for Lelouch x Kallen.

  229. >im fairly certain it was Eva but in that series didnt the mechs bleed?? that was the first thing that put me off!!

because the EVAs aren’t just simple robots, they also have hands, eyes, teeth … and a “personality” (rejecting the pilot, or going crazy and not listening to the pilot)

    >Really, Evangelion is one of those shows that many people either love or love to hate. >Personally, I think that you should avoid it. It’s good, but not all that good, and I >think that your time would be better spent elsewhere. But I’m sure that plenty of other >people will tell you that it’s a must see.

I agree. I think EVA is a must see, but only if you are interested in “deep” series that are more about the character’s problemes and also if you can relate to the characters (else you might find them annoying). The whole idea is very similar to this episode of Code Geass, only treated very differently and imho a lot better – but then those that prefer easy to digest, action-based shows as CG(even if I thought that the fights in EVA were a lot more interesting) might prefer this version, which is so much shorter 😉
But for those there is still the new movie, which is easier to digest than the TV series and skips pretty many of Shinji’s depressive moments. and it’s pure eye (and ear-)-candy.

    minikui
  230. Personally,
I can’t see Kellen having any role with Lelouch’s Britannia. There are so many things that he has done in the past. This recent revelation will make it very difficult for Kallen to want to have a relationship with him. This might be way too much for Kallen to bear.

If nothing happens between Kallen and Lelouch, then the only other person who might finally step in is Milly Ashford. Perhaps Milly is Lelouch’s true love interest. I can’t see how C.C. would ever become a wife of Lelouch. But we’ll see how episode 22 turns out.

    Max
  231. TO BE FAIR MINIKUI whether a show is deep or not is not in question! i cant stand shows which are deep for the sake of being deep! where characters have problems like they do in eastenders and it takes them just as long to ever find resolutions to them because whilst they are geniuses/ace pilots/mech desginers etc… they are also sociallly retarded!!! Although im the one which hasnt seen Eva i feel that code geas made sense because if I were gonna lead a double life nd lot to take over the world whilst attending school thats how I would do it!
And this whole business of the mech bleeding and what not. All i know is that there is somthing fundamentally pointless and flawed about advancing techonlogy to the stage where you can create a giant robot mecha but it has similar flaws and failngs of a human being which make us reasonably unviable as weapons in the first place! what kind of scum would pilot somthing or use a weapon that feels pain when its shot at! its the freaking pokemon mentality! You maky say its deep and to be honest i will give it another shot (if i can find it in this country but series which are deep (Code Geass aint deep btw there were no profound problems in any of them the main characters where just sociopaths!) have to make sense on all levels both the character dynamics and the science fiction aswell as the where the show ends up! Thats why eureka 7 annoyed me! for similar reasons that EVA did but i didnt find out the mechs where bilogical in nature til towards the end and homing lazers ?!?!?!?!

@Lilu seriously i dont even think lelouch loved shirley all that much until just before the last minute i just think he felt Super guilty!

    WingZero zxt
  232. that’s why I put “” around the word, I didn’t know how to express it, but you did understand what I meant. The characters in EVA have psychological problems, and especially the main character can be really wearisome if you aren’t very patient and don’t care about his problems. (The other characters in the series aren’t necessarily understanding either, so you can relate to them as well maybe xD ). I only wanted to make clear the difference between EVA and CG – EVA is a lot like CG R2 episode 21 (eventhough it includes many other things as well). So if this episode appeals to you, you might like it. If this episode “gave you a headache”, EVA might not be your cup of tea, unless you enjoy having headaches ^^

    >series which are deep have to make sense on all levels >both the character dynamics and >the science fiction aswell

Well, EVAs aren’t necessarily perfect – technology in EVA isn’t as advanced as f.ex. in CG. It was already mentioned that EVAs can only move on their own for 5 minutes. So it does fit together imho. Also they don’t really have any “ace pilots”, at least not the main character. But the EVAs don’t feel pain, it’s the pilot that feels the pain =) And of course, the true nature of the EVAs is part of the plot as well, so it isn’t revealed right from the start. (Eventhough you can already see his hands in the second fight – and that scene was really shocking imho). Concerning character dynamics you’ll just have to see for yourself, if you like it or not ^^ Maybe first watch the movie, to get into it and then watch the tv series if you like it.

Nope there was some relationship between Lelouche and Shirley, and I am not just talking about at the end either. You got hints of this before he Geass her that she liked him, and he felt the same in some way because he was stretching himself thin trying to met up with her & continue his secret world. Hell, she was the one whom got him caught at the beginning of the series anyway …after he had ran away with C.C. and hid. The cellphone number was Shirley’s and though you can say they were just friends, but she is generally the one whom stay in contact with Lelouche. Then there is the whole ticket thing, if he didn’t have any feelings for her that entire scene wouldn’t have happen, but it was a budding relationship. Lelouche’s mind was too occupied to really focus in on her, and after all of that, it was really too late for him to fall madly in love with her.

Thus, my thoughts if that he liked her, but love …might be too strong a word. As for Kallen, she is more like the bestfriend/sister in this series to Lelouche and I can explain quite well why.

  234. @WingZero zxt
Well, there are the two movies which redo the end of the TV series (Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Rebirth and Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion), but I believe that minikui is talking about the current set of remake movies. They’re retelling Evangelion (with various changes) in a set of 4 movies. Only the first one (Evangelion: 1.0 You Are [Not] Alone) is out, however, and I don’t believe that it’s been released outside of Japan (certainly there’s been no English dub yet, so no release in the US), so you’d have to track down a fansub of it somewhere. I haven’t seen it, so I don’t really know how it compares.

  235. I would like to give my 2 cents on all this. I agree that at this point nothing make sense, and it would seem like everything’s rushed, but you know what? It’s incredibly entertaining, and I know most of you agree with me because you’re debating to no end about this in this forum, as well as others.

There are many good anime and manga that seem to make no sense at times but are considered a success because they “hook” the viewer throughout. I have to say Code Geass has achieved this, and achieved it very well. The plot at this point is so confusing, and I have no idea who’s the bad guy or who’s the good guy anymore. It’s insane, to say the least. But you know what? It’s so entertaining that I don’t care. I do agree that the plot could be more well told – I don’t even know who’s right between Charles/Marianne and Lelouch at this point, but I think that’s the beauty of this anime. You decide who’s right and who’s wrong, and enjoy the ride through. I think that’s a very realistic portrayal of our real life circumstances, as the term “right” usually depends on a person’s perspective. There could be many arguments and fights, but looking at each side’s perspective at the time, they were correct to make their choices.

    Just my 2 cents.

    codegeasscraziness
  236. Well Kallen coul ask Lelouch if he really thought of her as a pawn, or if he thought of the black knights as pawns in his game, or if he ordered Euphie to kill everyone.

I was rewatching season 1 of Code Geass last week, and Kirihara himself told Oghi, “Oghi you can trust this man. He may not be Japanese, but I assure you he is a true enemy of Britania.”

Something along those lines, so I fail to see why Oghi would be swayed so easily by Schneizel and Viletta who he gets pussy from. I mean Zero did so much for them, and he forgets so quickly. My opinion of Oghi has gone down a lot, I mean he was dumb enough to fall for Schneizel’s trick and plan. Schneizel is all about tactics and manipulation, he is known world wide for that. All of the Black Knights should be ashamed of themselves for falling for such a trap without talking to Zero one on one, without any guns also.

    Grimjaww
  237. Grimjaww you asked an obvious question about Ougi but then answered it in the same line Bravo!!!! seriously though for all they know kirihara was Geassed thats the problem! Lelouch’s geass or basic knowledge of it makes him fundamentally unapproachable! what the hell were they supposed to do knowing that thier leader had a ridiculous power over people that they knew nothing about!!! you can say that they over reacted and if they had actually known lelouch character or better yet how his power works they wouldnt hve been so quick to execute him but so far as we know schniziel doesnt even know that much so we cant even say schnizeil lied completely! for all we know at this point schniziel genuinely thought lelouch had geassed all of the people schniziel said he had!!! I am still a bit confused about whether villeta still thinks that geas was used in her original capture though!

regarding whatshisfaces ‘TWO CENTS’ im not be any means sure what people mean when they say nothing at this point makes sense i can currently make sense of it (in particular episdoe 21 which didnt phase me in the slightest!) And as for who the bad guy is you could go so far to say (just about) that there is currently no bad guy because unless you are the Joker from batman or the guy who ok’s microsofts pricing stratey, no one in this program has acted without attemping to justify themselves with higher moral reasoning I.E
Lelouch thought that he could affect change by wearing a mask becoming and enemy of the state, starting a war and pretending to be a sociopath
Suzaku thought he could do it by selling out his countries wishes, his own wishes betraying everyone close to him and being a retard
The emperor and marriane thought they could do it by utilising an acient system which controlled ‘a’ or should i say THE collective unconsciousness therby creating a world where lies werent possible and therefore being nothing but peaceable was FORCed on everybody

OR you could go so far as to say that the bad guy is the guy whos actions or ‘THINKING’ brought about the deaths of the most people! Or you could say it was all of them and there no good GUYS in this program only GIRLS lol it depends on your upbringing and how morally invested you are in this series!

dunno schniziels higher moral purpse yet though! he does have cornelia however

  238. I suppose that it all depends on how you define “good guy” and “bad guy”. In your typical show the protagonist is the “good guy” and the antagonist is the “bad guy.” The protagonist is typically a fairly good person who’s trying to make the world better or rid the world of evil some other goal that you’d generally expect a “good” person to do. The antagonist, on the other hand, is usually trying to take over the world (or kingdom or whatever), get super-rich at the expense of others, kill innocent people, or some other goal that people would usually consider nefarious. “Good guys” are good because they do good stuff and “bad guys” are bad because they do evil stuff. Normally, the protagonist is a good guy and the antagonist is a “bad guy.” This doesn’t quite hold true for Code Geass, however.

The characters in Code Geass are fairly complex. Most of them have good reasons for what they do and believe that they’re doing the right thing. As such, they would tend to fall in the “good guy” category. On the other hand, most of them are willing to do things that we would tend to consider nasty – if not evil – in order to achieve their goals. That would tend to put them in the “bad guy” category. It, therefore, becomes difficult to simply label the protagonists as “good guys” and the antagonists as “bad guys” as you would normally do.

Now, the protagonists do tend to try and avoid the evil stuff more than the antagonists do and their ideas of what is “good” probably aligns with ours more often than it does with the antagonists, but that isn’t always the case. Lelouch, for instance, generally tries to avoid civilian casualties. Britannians (such as Clovis and Governer Calares), on the other hand, have specifically ordered the slaughter of civilians. It’s generally been clear that the antagonists are more willing to let civilians be killed (especially Elevens) than the antagonists are. However, Lelouch has done things which would generally be considered evil (such as kill the leaders of the Japanese Liberation Front simply because it helped him out in his strategy at the time) while there are people on the Britannian side (such as Suzaku) have specifically avoided harming civilians or committing acts that we’d generally consider evil.

There are shades of grey in all of the characters in Code Geass. I do believe that the protagonists tend to be more white than black and that the antagonists tend to be more black than white, but it becomes quite difficult to label the major characters as being “good guys” or “bad guys”. I think that it’s safe to say that it’s not the case that things are so turned around that the protagonists are “bad guys” and that the antagonists are “good guys” (unlike Death Note), but it’s definitely not the case that the protagonists are outright “good” and the antagonists are outright “evil.”

In any case, the only sense in which you can clearly talk about “good guys” and “bad guys” in Code Geass is in the sense that we normally refer to the protagonists as being the “good guys” and the antagonists being the “bad guys” (it’s so common to do so, that we usually don’t even think about it. “good guy” = protagonist and “bad guy” = antagonist). But really, just about everyone in this series is a shade of grey with only a few being white (like Nunnally) or black (like Luciano) and using the term “good guy” and “bad guy” doesn’t really work. If we want to be clear, we should really be talking about the protagonists and the antagonists, not “good guys” and “bad guys.”

    Kalessin
  239. Ok well obvious Lelouch is the protagonist, and Schneizel is the main antagonist that had been hinted at ever since season 1. The first time we heard about him is when Nunnaly pointed out she had never seen Lelouch so worked up ever since he lost to Schneizel in chess. So now it’s finally the brotherly rivalry that had been hinted at for so long, he is the only one other than Xing-Ke that can compete in intelligence.

I think it is pretty obvious that Schneizel is a bad guy since he all of the sudden wanted to over throw his father for power, and its not just about geass, the guy likes to win. I mean even Charles did not want Schneizel to be put into power, this guy has a weird mind that gets what he wants by manipulation, aka telling the Black Knights Zero’s identity. Another detail that shows he is a “bad” antagonist is when he smiles as the Freija is wreaking havoc, he knew that Suzaku would use the weapon because of the “Live On” geass; hence why he said a couple episodes ago, “I hold all the cards now.” Schneizel had been floating under the radar ever since season 1, and now his real intentions have been revealed, the only thing that actually made him to seem to care was the death of Euphie, he was actually shooken up and almost in tears. Like i said before, he used the excuse of the geass of Charles since it was such a great opportunity to seize power, I mean who would stop him, Odysseus? As we saw in season 1 he was afraid to take care of Black Rebellion, and did not care about being humiliated by Zero. Odysseus is just content with his rank, so Schneizel had no one to stop him from rising to power. The only person who could is Lelouch, but he is a discarded prince that is thought to be dead, hence why he said “He is the most i loved and feared the most.”

judging by the way code geass is going right now, all of our predictions will be wrong and it will have the most unexpected ending.

Well, Schneizel isn’t all bad – or at least some of the reasons that he gives for what he’s doing aren’t all bad. He said that his father was neglecting the people and his duty as emperor and that he needed to be overthrown in order to stop that. He seems to think that people want to to be ruled (which, in all honesty, is at least partially true). And if he’s thinking that he can do the best job at ruling the people in a manner that would bring peace and stability to the world, then it would make sense for him to try and take everything over. According to that logic, once he’s in charge, the world will be a better place. So, I don’t think that Schneizel is all bad.

However, he’s definitely not all that good either. It’s not at all clear why he’s doing what he’s doing (even if he gives good reasons for what he’s doing, I think that we have reason enough to believe that he may be using them as a front as opposed to them being his true reasons), so I don’t think that we can really trust that he’s all that good. He’s definitely shown signs of willing to be quite nasty if the situation calls for it. He’s at least as manipulative as Lelouch – if not more so. I just don’t think that we know enough about his true motives to really think of him as being all that good – particularly when he seems so willing to sacrifice others to achieve his goals (though he’s very good at manipulating others to do the nasty stuff on their own).

In many ways, I think that if you look at Schneizel and Lelouch objectively, they’re the same. They’re both extremely intelligent and extremely manipulative. The main difference is that Lelouch is the protagonist (so we root for him) and we know why Lelouch does what he does. We don’t know why Schneizel does what he does. He may have good reasons and he may not. As such, he seems very similar to Lelouch.

Now, I do think that we can safely say that Schneizel is worse given that he not only seems willing to sacrifice others to acheive his goals, but he doesn’t seem to mind (he did smile when FLEIJA went off, after all). And while Lelouch does sacrifice others, I don’t think that he’s as willing to do it and he definitely isn’t always happy about it. He certainly doesn’t like the fact that innocent civilians have died because of him. Schneizel doesn’t appear to care.

So, I don’t think that Schneizel is outright evil or anything like that, but he’s definitely nastier than Lelouch. Lelouch, at least, regrets having to manipulate people and that innocent civilians (be they Britannians or Japanese) have died as a result of his actions. There’s little evidence that Schneizel has such regrets.

  243. personally, I made perfect sense of this episode.

It was a lot of information to take in, though, so I guess I can understand why so many people think the story doesn’t make any sense anymore.

The only thing I want to know is why Kallen kept saying “WHY?!” like it’s a terrible thing Lelouch become emperor.

    Well, on to episode 22.

  244. It took a little time to interpret but I can understand the plan a bit better now.

The Ragnarok connection is a system the manipulates the power of Geass and magnifies it allowing one to control the collective subconscious of the world. In this aspect it is different from the effects of normal Geass which affect an individuals primary consciousness.
Therefore Charles wanted to use it to force everyone on Earth to loose the ability lie. Lelouch believes that it is human’s ability to lie that provides them individuality. Therefore it is ironic that Charles’s plan is to destroy individuality because it was the very thing that his Darwinist Approach praised. The loss of individuality would cause the human race to become stagnant and without progress, so to prevent this Lelouch ordered the collective subconsciousness to continue to move forward. Due to the fact that it controls our actions our subconsciousness is our personal god, hence the terminology.
I do feel that they should have spent more time explaining this concept, though.
