「今年の夏はこわくない」 (Kotoshi no Natsu wa Kowakunai)
“This Summer Isn’t Scary”
An episode about the transient student council president and a crazy experiment-loving science teacher? Yes please, especially when Shiraishi Ryouko’s voicing the latter, Nishigaki Nana. I don’t understand her infatuation with blowing things up, but she did serve as a superhuman hearing aid for me at the very least. Gotou Saori apparently made some noise in this episode too, as was credited for Matsumoto Rise, the presence-less president. Beats me when that was though, because I didn’t hear so much as a whisper out of her. I didn’t care to crank up the volume to check either, and risk letting Nishigaki-sensei blow out my eardrums with her explosions.
Like many astute viewers out there, I also noticed that “someone” was hovering around at the beach back in episode four, so the revelation here doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Still, it’s kind of cool to get confirmation, even if it was only for a short-lived “Ah ha! I knew it” moment. It tied well into this week’s theme about telling scary stories too, albeit not quite as awesome as the supposed existence of an Akari-like spirit at school. For a moment, I thought it was all part of Akari’s master plan to freak them out for leaving her behind. Safe to say, it worked out even better when it was revealed that she had no part in it. Kyouko, Yui, and Chinatsu couldn’t really brush it off either, seeing as Akari doesn’t really have a track record for trolling people. I mean, she’s not Kyouko.
So between having less presence than Akari and being indifferent to Nishigaki blowing her up, Rise is pretty cute in my books. She’s right up there a short twin-tails Yui, provided that you’re not asking for Chinatsu’s biased opinion. Not that I blame Chinatsu of course, since it’s hard to resist the fabled lap pillow of anime. I haven’t been too much of a Yui fan, but she sure did make a case for herself this episode. With the next episode about the second-years’ school trip, it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing more of Rise for now (she’s a senior). Instead, it looks like we’ll be seeing more of Kyouko x Ayano with Chitose watching on. It’d be cool if Rise were around too, but those three can provide all the entertainment I need.

aren’t the main cast first years
Akari, Chinatsu, Himawari and Sakurako are first years, Kyouko, Yui, Ayano, Chitose and Chizuru are second years.
I’m still on the fence of actually watching this. One of my biggest reasons for wanting to watch it is that supposedly those behind the original Minami-ke series worked on this. Is the comedy in this similar and if one liked Minami-ke would they likely enjoy Yuru Yuri?
Haven’t watched Minami-ke myself, so I couldn’t speak for that. If you don’t mind yuri, then this series can be really cute with it. The comedy isn’t half bad either, though I personally think the main draw will be the moe factor (and Kyouko, who just an awesome character in general).
it is pretty random like minamike and seitokai sakuindomo, never know what comes next.
except this is quite a bit cuter, as for yuri, it is only in the imagination.
I loved Minami-ke S1, and quite enjoying Yuru Yuri. Not as awesome as Minami-ke, but still quite fun.
Does the small cough from Rise counts as the “noise” in the episode?
She cough once after being blown up by Nishigaki.
You can turn the volume up and hear her say stuff, just be careful.

Akari’s ghost was unexpected. But even Akari’s ghost barely gets any screen time as well. LOL
Oh. Divine. What happened to the Kiss x Sis blog entries. I’m pretty sure you blogged this series, but I can’t find the entries for them on google or by searching RandomC.
The jokes didn’t seem as good as previous episodes, but it seems okay I guess. Rise was a bit disappointing. I guess I expected too much. Akari’s ghost was a pretty good, though I wish there was more impact. But then again this is Akari we are talking about 😛

IDK why, but she looks to have slightly bigger eyes than the rest of the cast. Also, her red eyes are so adorable added with her rather small body.

I don't see Akarin in the preview lol. Seems like she used up all her screentime in this ep. XD
Akarin did not use up her screen time. Akarin-Ghost used up Akarin’s screen time. So sad to have less presence than a ghost.
On another note: It must be the gloomy background as the “Akarin!” at the beginning sure sounded like Okarin to me.
