「ホモゲ部」 (Homoge Bu)
“Homo Game Club”
Even though there was a distinct lack of Kobato in this week’s episode, a glasses-less Rika almost made up for it. No matter how you look at it, it’s kind of ridiculous how a small change like removing someone’s glasses can change your entire perspective. In Rika’s case, I have never been a huge fan of her character. She’s a bit too normal and at the same time a bit too crazy so she falls in-between two totally different categories — making it really hard to find a niche to stick her into. But take those character-typing glasses off of her and she turns into a super cute yet terribly wild girl who could rival Makise Kurisu in terms of who looks cuter in a lab coat. That is, until you bring up her love for BL, especially Muscular BL. Something I totally forgot about until we were gracefully reminded with two muscular dudes expressing their intense love for one another. And to think, I almost questioned why Rika wasn’t in the running for favorite character!
If last week’s episode was supposed to remind us of the dark humor that Haganai has, this week’s did a great job at bringing up how awkwardly funny it is when something we perceive as common sense is lost upon others. To put it bluntly, it was still a blast watching the Neighbor’s Club or in this case Yozora completely focus on the wrong points and somehow correlate the relationship between two guys passionately making out with one another to friends kissing. If you’re like me, and I’m hoping that at least some of you are, I was dying when it hit me that Yozora completely missed the whole awkward part of the conversation as she honed her sights straight on Kodaka.
But who would have believed that a BL movie would spark one of the most noticeable changes between Sena and Yozora? If I’m not mistaken, I could have swore that Yozora was completely focused on constantly staying in attack mode last season — taking any and all opportunities to attack Sena. From the constant mocking (MEAT!) to the verbal and physical assaults, I was willing to bet that this season would incorporate some downright cruel tactics. Which is why starting with episode one, it’s been a bit of a shock to see Yozora not only back down but offer a genuine apology to the girl who I thought she so ferociously hated. Then throw in the fact that Sena seems to be going on the offensive whenever it happens and it’s almost like the two have swapped places! It’s shame that Sena can’t follow up like Yozora though since it would be nice to watch Yozora end up on the receiving end of an attack sometimes.
Enter Takayama Kate, the bustiest and grossest sister I’ve ever witnessed in an anime. Constantly burping and farting, I don’t think I’ve ever been this disgusted to see a busty character, ever. But at the same time, I can’t help but love that dark and serious attitude she has when she isn’t too busy being gross. Add in the fact that she’s actually a caring older sister and you have a Takaii that’s terribly torn between liking and disliking a new character. Seriously though, HOW OFTEN DOES A HOT GIRL FART IN AN ANIME?
And another episode of Haganai comes to a close. With the humor this week stemming from a bunch of BL and the awkward relationship our “not officially friends but maybe we are something close to that” characters share, I think it’s safe to say that this makes two great episodes in a row!
P.S. I was so close to setting the excerpt to “Onee-saBABA!” but I didn’t think it would serve this episode justice. So I didn’t :/
