「さくらとさかさまペンギン」 (Sakura to Sakasama Pengin)
“Sakura and the Upside-down Penguin”

Things are finally beginning to get good.

General Impressions

After a few weeks of build up, I’m glad to see the story finally beginning to ramp up and dive into the juicy details. Because at the rate it was going, it felt like we were going to watch Sakura capture all of these new Clear Cards before the masked figure was even going to appear again! That said, I guess it might be a little too early for us to really start making assumptions since we’ve only just begun to scratch the surface of what’s going on. However, even though the details may be a little sparse, I think it’s pretty clear that Kaito is hiding something from us. Which leads to the question — is that something going to be something ominous or just another point that’s trying to throw us off the scent?

Actually, it also leads us to another question and it would be just why Eriol is keeping things a secret from Sakura. Sure, it isn’t all that outlandish to think that he would withhold information seeing how he’s a super powerful magician who is probably twenty times as old as Sakura, but something about the way he and Syaoran are keeping things a mystery just rubs me the wrong way.

Moving on from the big mystery at hand, I must say that this week’s episode was awfully fun to watch. Besides the obvious nostalgia play with Penguin Park, all the small moments filled with side characters were fun to watch. From Takashi telling the honest to god truth (and Chiharu being confused about how to retort his statement) to Sakura and Touya having a quaint brother-and-sister moment, there was a lot going on even though you wouldn’t really say all that much “happened” throughout the episode.

Again, if you didn’t catch my tone earlier, we had another great episode. With the story progressing at a decent rate and another card added to Sakura’s Clear Card Compendium, it looks like all that’s left is for Sakura to figure out just who that Masked Person really is. Seeing how we’re only halfway through the series though (I believe it’s slated for 22 episodes), I can’t help but feel that we’re not going to get anything tangible unless there’s something even bigger waiting to show itself.

In any case, I’ll catch you guys next week where it looks like things are going to get a little spicy between Syaoran and Akiho. See you then!

  1. i think that match up next week is for syaoran to directly test akiho for any signs of powers. because if you cant measure it by feelings, make it manifest! the fact that theories stated by eriol AKA clow, are more likely possible, akiho might have immense power herself and that is what he will look for. speaking of immense power, why eriol said that sakura have immense power herself? does that mean she has a power beyond the cards that she doesnt realized? and the similarities about the new cards and the clow cards (we should remember the clow cards only turned to clear and powerless but they are not gone) seems a hint that there will be a cardcaptor duel in one of the episodes. sakura VS who?

more and more question pops out each episode. we are now entering the half of the series so i hope we get some more answers.

  2. After watching Movie 1 where Sakura won a trip to Hong Kong (She cheated, magical entities hacked the lottery system) where Sakura met Clow Reed’s old fling. I just assume all wizards that challenge her can be carbon dated.

  3. I really hope Eriol and Syaoran have a good reason for not talking to Sakura about all of this. Because as of right now, they’re really just coming off as terrible friends.
