To Aru Majutsu no Index III – 23

「ヒューズ=カザキリ」 (Hyuuzu Kazakiri)
“Fuse=KAZAKIRI”

You know I’m pretty sure at some point that everyone will admit they’re with Index just for Misaka (because biribiri tsundere shenanigans best shenanigans), but I’ll be damned if Accelerator isn’t moving up the scales. Who are you and why are you here indeed: it could be the calling card of Index’s third season, because if you’re honest you have to admit not even the most diehard fan could probably keep all these developments straight. Everything is now moving at the speed of light, and with only two episodes to go, you can expect the momentum to only increase.

While I could likely go on for hours about Index’s unique approach to Tetris-like scriptwriting (read: as much as possible in as short of time as possible), the fun isn’t as much in tearing things apart as enjoying the chaos, and oh boy did we get more of that this week. Case in point in the sense of place and distance suddenly making itself felt, as what looks like a multi-kilometer island appearing to be only a few meters across. Weren’t we just battling over Church #116 in Sector 6? Nope, because we’re actually over Section 8 and rapidly moving outwards. And by outwards I mean 20 minutes away over the Polar Vortex wind swept steppes of Mother Russia. How did we get there so fast? How did Gabriel(a) find the cackling madman himself? Why isn’t the tragically sidelined Misaka involved in this latest showdown of pseudo-scientific projectile motion? God only knows, but at least the (visual) results are a treat to look at. Don’t deny, you know flying Accelerator is best Accelerator after all.

Barring the fun of watching things collide though, we did get some more heartfelt developments this week as well. Accelerator for example has pretty much embraced his inner daddy, going all out for the cute verbal tick pipsqueak who really needs to wake up and comically berate the guy already. Yeah yeah, Acqua also had his moment to bleed shine, but seriously, it was all Accelerator and his selfless actions this week. Well, ok, and Shiage’s adventure too, although that kid has a hard time not shining of late. Level Zero and single handily helping save both Rikou and innocent Russian villagers alike: someone is quickly proving his main character credentials. Best watch your back Touma, no matter how much those one punch moments may look from time to time, you now got some competition when it comes to being the loyal male lead. Particularly since it looks like one explosive character looks set to make a reappearance.

If you thought Index was crazy already best batten down those hatches boys and girls, because what comes next in this climax is going to be wild.

There should be 3 eps left to go, as this season is supposed to be 26 episodes long.

I like the Russian Misaka with an AK-47. She lacks a Russian accent.

Russian Misaka best Misaka. Only missing the complementary hard bass blasting from a pair of speakers on her shoulder.

Death Stars? Does anyone have an X-Wing and a Jedi Ghost that only the pilot can hear?

Do you see this 2 Balloons with an smaller circle inside it?

Now imagine these Balloons for the shape of Death Star and this small circle is the Main Weapon

Imagine this picture way back with C64 (Homecomputer) Lines…

here in this gigantic Picture they seems to be like Balloons that lift this naval steering wheel in this construct

I will be honest I have never expected Hyoka to play any important roles after the first season of Index. It’s not that I don’t like Hyoka, I think she is cool like all the other girls Touma meets but now she suddenly appears fighting with power and a very minimal lead up from now. It makes me wonder if Hyoka is necessary if Touma is to succeed in defeating Fiamma.

I wish they would explain why she could fight or give some science vs magic accelerator monologues i dont understand anything

Not that I’m expecting them to allocate the time to explaining it, but Kazakiri is an artificial, “science-based” angel developed by Aleister as an anti-magic weapon, as well as a sort of test run for the technology he’s using to bring Aiwass into the world. She’s always been a great deal stronger than she looks, but in the latter half of season two, it was revealed that the Misaka Network can be used to force her into the much more powerful “FUSE=Kazakiri” form…

Back then, the Network was being used to force her into this form against her will, with both Hyouka and the Sisters resisting, however ineffectually, to the best of their abilities, which is why she was basically immobile and seemingly insensate for much of the arc (she and the Network were “fighting” each other). But now, both she and the Network are, at the very least, aware that they’re working toward the same ends, so they’re cooperating to enable her to access her full power while keeping her mind.

As to how she knows how to properly use her abilities, when this is essentially the first time she has properly assumed this form, it’s basically instinct. Her powers are deeply ingrained into who/what she is – using them is as natural for her as breathing.

You’re far from the only one, this season has more or less been admitted to be purely for light novel readers, and yet even for those who know what’s going on it’s bloody hard keeping things straight. Definitely a letdown in that regard.

Sasha nailed essence of the series:
    Question three, if I may:
    What exactly is going on?
