“I Wouldn’t Say That”
What an episode full of emotions — and Jason.
Before diving into things, let me just say that I was a little bummed that we didn’t make any progress on the whole “mysterious boy and his missing cap” plot line. Because after the way last week’s episode ended, it just feels a bit crazy for the story to gracefully skip over even mentioning it. I’ll get into all the great things from this week’s episode in a second, but if I’m being honest, I’m starting to grow a bit weary of things staying so calm and collected for so long.
That said, this episode was quite good for a myriad of other reasons. The biggest for me being Shigure taking the time to show us just how big of a heart he has (except when it comes to toying around with his editor). Going out of his way to take his de facto kids to a closed off environment to figure things out, it was awfully kind of him to dedicate so much time and effort to letting them solve their problems. But in typical Shigure fashion there was another layer to venturing off to a relaxing mountain side vacation home and that was giving the stoic Hatori an opportunity to relax. Relax and have an opportunity to not worry about his typical Soma responsibilities as well as giving him a moment to reflect on his feelings toward his ex-fiancé’s and her recent wedding.
To close things out, let me take a second to talk about Kyo and Yuki’s stressful relationship. I don’t remember exactly how things played out in the anime’s original run, but I do hope that we get to see the moment where our two boys can finally overcome all the stupid hatred and anger they hold toward each other. From a plot standpoint I can understand why they need to continue being the way they are, but I do hope we can see something tangible in their growth sometime soon.
Overall, this week’s episode was a fun watch even if we didn’t really get that much substance from it. That and I must admit I enjoyed watching Shigure, Hatori, and Aya give us a glimpse at the type of relationship they shared in their youth. Hopefully as we get deeper into the story, we’ll be able to get an even deeper look into all the characters we’ve grown together with. And with that, I’ll see you guys next week!
