Tsuujou Kougeki ga Zentai Kougeki de Nikai Kougeki no Okaasan wa Suki Desuka – 07

「学祭の主役は学生だ. それはただ制服を着ている人も含まれてしまうのだがな….」 (Gakusai no Shuyaku wa Gakusei Da. Sore wa Tada Seifuku o Kite Iru Hito mo Fukumarete Shimau no Da ga na….)
“Students are the Protagonists of a School Festival. But People Wearing School Uniforms are Included, Too.”

If it feels like this episode was repeating the same beats, that’s because Tsuujou trapped us in a time loop that has us constantly reliving the same episode three times. Despite showing promise of evolving the storyline with the next episode, it’d have officially been four episodes of Medhi dealing with her narcissistic mother and Mamako always miraculously acing every class activity.

One main difference is how much attention Mamako has received since unofficially joining the school. While past episodes have shown her being a welcome change of pace for the student body, this time around, we see all of the students have fallen head-over-heels with Mamako. With how well she’s been doing and how attractive she is, all of the fake students are constantly looking to follow her with every step they take, whether it be to try her home-cooking or to be painfully rejected by her as she turns them away by simply addressing that she’s already a mother. There aren’t many details about whether Masato’s father is dead, separated, or just didn’t get any screentime, but considering that Masato had ended up taking the mantle of man-of-the-house, his main expression is being somewhat peeved that he might possibly have competition.

But the most progress this week came from Medhi, whose emotional state is regularly compromised by the tug-of-war that Masato and her mother are playing with her. Masato keeps trying to find ways to undermine her mom’s influence by pushing her towards having fun with the friends that she always wanted and to seek out her own desires as she’s been trapped in her mother’s grasp for long enough that she’s never had friends of her own. For Medhimama though, friends are meaningless as she aims to continue having control over Medhi so that she could look like a better mom. Medhi either refused to look between the lines of Medhimama having a selfish motive behind her controlling and abusive relationship with her mom or was ignorant to it due to her mother’s previously composed nature not allowing herself to crack in her daughter’s presence. But after Medhimama came clean about wanting to be seen as the best mother, Medhi treated us to one of the funniest scenes of the show; the moment she turns into a fearsome dragon with long blue hair. There wasn’t even a guy with a rough voice doing their best dragon roar. To hear Lynn’s screaming come out of this massive dragon was really a sight to see. The episode could have been a lot more creative aside from giving us more motherly fanservice from Mamako, but this last bit with dragon Medhi made up for any prior complaints I could’ve had with this episode.
