“Dreams”

Studying abroad is an opportunity you should never miss out on. I know where Kanon is coming from, she wants to stay with the girls and help them out on their journey, she feels like taking this opportunity would mean she’s being selfish and abandoning their group in one way or another, but that is entirely not the case. And I’m glad Chisato was there to smack some sense into her. Because even though it’s the humble thing to do, Kanon should definitely take this opportunity as it will make her talent sore. And how she has approached music so far – not from a technical standpoint, from the standpoint of a feeling gives her an advantage over Wein.

Anyway, I’m glad Leilla girls won first place once and for all, it’s well deserved, and Wien’s little meltdown after hearing the verdict does not help her character. She has had so little screen time and her character is all but shrouded in mystery, that it’s hard for me to connect with her. This season she has just been there and even though Wien did serve as a sort of standing point for the Liella girls, a place where they should be able to reach forward, a level they should strive for, and boy did they certainly reach that level. In the end, it all came down to how much feeling each of the presenters was able to infuse into their songs. Love Live is an incredibly high standard show – that is if we try and compare it to any type of reality TV where presenters are made to sing for entertainment. Think America’s Got Talent or something like that.

Love Live not only requires original songs but presenters are also encouraged to sing and dance at the same time. Which requires an extreme amount of discipline, as much as we have seen this season with Liella. We have accompanied them throughout their journey and their daily training regimes, which are nothing to snooze at. Nevertheless, the value of Love Live is incredibly high, so it’s no wonder Wien got such a nice deal. If she was able to win the whole of the Love Live she would be able to transfer into the school of her dreams, but of course, her parents must have moved some strings, so in that process, Kanon was invited to become an international exchange student. And I’m kinda happy that she might actually take the deal.

What about the finals? Hopefully, the girls will be able to perform one final song for the finale of this S2, and even then hopefully we get to see more of Superstar in a hypothetical third season, or a completely new Love Live IP. The future is uncertain and it’s certainly looking bright, maybe a movie about Kanon and her adventures in Vienna or something I don’t know and anything is possible. On the other hand, Wien might actually become a likable character if we get to spend some more time with her! Whatever the case the future is looking bright for Love Live!

  1. I hoping for an S3. They need to flesh out the first years more and Wein. They have to my Wein more sympathetic. Unless, the movie is supposed to close everything up, but I rather have another cour.
