NO.6 – 06
「隠し危険」 (Kakushi Kiken)
“Hidden Danger”
I confess the notion of Safu and Nezumi’s paths crossing – and an ensuing battle royale over Shion – is a fascinating notion I’d quite like to see…

“Hidden Danger”
I confess the notion of Safu and Nezumi’s paths crossing – and an ensuing battle royale over Shion – is a fascinating notion I’d quite like to see…
「無限連鎖のアポトーシス」 (Mugenrensa no apotōshisu)
“Infinite Chain of Apoptosis”
A couple of words come to mind when considering this episodes of Steins;Gate. Intense, certainly. Dark, definitely. But the one that really captures it for me is “joyless”. And while it was probably a necessary evil at this stage in the story, that didn’t make it any easier to watch.
「人ならぬもの」 (Hito Naranu Mono)
“That Which is not Human”
I’ve had many things said about me over the years, but never let it be said that I’ve taken the pleasures of squid away from a middle-aged man.
「誘惑」 (Yūwaku)
“Temptation”
I’ll confess a certain reluctance at wading into the debate over the direction this series is taking, but I guess that’s sort of the point of being an anime blogger, isn’t it? I think this episode did a pretty good job encapsulating all the challenges the produces of AoEx are facing, what they’re doing well, and what they’re struggling with.
「換魂の書」 (Kan Kon no Sho)
"Book of Soul Exchange"
With two very solid and dramatically different episodes back-to-back, I can’t help but be encouraged about Dantalian no Shoka and where it’s headed. As a little bonus, both thematically and visually this felt more like GAINAX than any of the earlier episodes.
「冥府の天使」 (Meifu no tenshi)
“Angel of Hades”
Whether it was intentional or not, the fifth episode of NO.6 left me more confused and less sure of my footing than I was going in. As with so much of this show, I’m never quite sure just whether I’m taking things the way BONES intended.
「自己相似のアンドロギュノス」 (Jiko sōji no andorogyunosu)
“Fractal Andogynous”
I think it’s pretty safe to assume most people are going to consider this a mediocre episode by Steins;Gate standards – as high as those are – but I’m going to disagree for a number of reasons. Maybe I’ve become so attached to this show that I’ve lost some of my critical edge, or maybe I’m biased because the Adorable Trap-Miko is back – but I thought this was yet another very strong effort.
「蔵にひそむもの」 (Kura ni Hisomu Mono)
“That Which Hides in the Storehouse”
As wonderful as they’ve been, things have been slanted very much towards the heartwarming side of the scale for Natsume Yuujinchou in this “San” season. Though they’re adapting out of order, I figured Omori-sensei was overdue to jump into a chapter with a little more darkness and threat, and so he did.
「賭」 (Kake)
“Gamble”
Which direction does A-1 choose – an anime-original ending à la Kuroshitsuji, or perhaps a total “jump break” like Deadman Wonderland with the intent of waiting at least two years and hoping the audience is still there?
「叡智の書/月下美人」 (Eichi no Sho / Gekkabijin)
“Book of Wisdom/Queen of the Night”
I’m certainly not the first person to point this out, but one of the refreshing things about Dantalian no Shoka is that pretty much everyone in it is smart. It certainly spares us a lot of cliched moments of people doing stupid things and asking stupid questions.
