Koutetsujou no Kabaneri – 09
(Horobi no Kiba)
“Fang of Ruin”
If anime has taught us one thing, it’s to never trust a long-haired, well-spoken bishounen.

(Kurushii Toki no Kamisama Tanomi)
“Danger Past, Forgotten Past”
Kudos to Mayoiga for going against everyone’s exceptions and just being utterly ridiculous until the bitter end.
(Mokusu Karibito)
“The Silent Hunter”
Kabaneri is all about surprises these past two weeks – first we had a quiet and reflective episode devoid of action that worked well, and then this week we have a return to the kabane frenzy while managing to be compelling in a way I did not expect.
(Gekka Hyouketsu)
“Freezing in the Moonlight”
Getting locked in the attic with your dead grandma, a giant toy penguin on the loose, and a wood monster fresh from the desks of smug businessmen – Mayoiga is truly one of a kind.
(Ten ni Negau)
“Begging the Heavens”
Surprisingly, Kabaneri handles this quieter episode just as well as its loud, bombastic ones.
(Nanaki Tazunete Masaki wo Utagau)
“Visit Nanaki Before Doubting Masaki”
That was certainly an episode of Mayoiga right there.
(Tsudou Hikari)
“Gathering Light”
Hints of a mysterious backstory, side characters getting to prove their worth, and a payoff in the final minutes that’s as glorious as they come.
(Oni no Inu Ma ni Warudakumi)
“When the Cat’s Away, the Mice Will Play Mischief”
While plenty of Mayoiga’s episodes could be classed as “so bad it’s good”, this episode was great, plain and simple – it worked both as a compelling thriller and self-aware comedy.
(Nigerarenu Yami)
“Inescapable Darkness”
Kabaneri continues its epic streak, letting us to witness Mumei’s weaknesses for the first time – allowing her to be less than the perfect anime girl creation she has personified up until now.
(Bozu no Fudoutoku)
“The Monk’s Immorality”
This week on Mayoiga: flashbacks, flashbacks, and more flashbacks!
