It’s that time of the year again, time for the final season schedule of 2012. It’s been a good year, full of grand changes for RandomC and fun anime for all involved…but I’ll save the reminiscing for the the year end post. For now, here’s what we’re planning on covering this time!

As with previous seasons, this is a tentative overview of RandomC’s plans for the new season. We’ll also be doing introductory posts about many of the shows we’re not covering, so if something catches one of our eyes, things will be shifted around to accommodate. The schedule will be updated to reflect any changes.

There are a few things you might notice. First of all is the conspicuous lack of several names on the schedule, namely Divine, Takaii, and unlisted. You already know what Divine is up to, but Takaii and unlisted are joining him in hiatus-ville for the time being, due to RL priorities. As for Prooof, he’ll still be with us covering the Bleach manga, so he’s not actually going anywhere. We just wanted to clean up the list a bit.

Next, we’re actually planning on covering fewer shows than we did in the comparatively sparse summer season (18, compared to last season’s 23). Strangely enough, with all the different kinds of posts we’re doing these days, it has sometimes felt like there was too much content on the site. I know, I know, “What is this madness I speak!?” Yet with the busy fall season upon us all, we wanted to make sure we had ample time to make sure the shows we are covering are blogged consistently and on-time, and with the high quality you expect from RandomC.

Yet there’s another reason we’re scaling back a bit, and that’s our friend Guardian Enzo. In case you haven’t heard the news, as of October of this year – in just a few days, as of this writing – Enzo is boarding a plane and moving to Japan. He’ll be there for at least two years, and if all goes well and he feels up to it, he might stay there forevermore. Please join me in wishing Enzo a safe move, and an exciting new life in the country that has given us all so much entertainment and fun (and pantsu shots). Not that he won’t be around to tell us what’s up – he’s just going to blog one show instead of his normal four. Good luck man, and don’t do anything I wouldn’t do! (not that that excludes much)

Still, though some of us are moving abroad and others are focusing their time elsewhere, as a group we’re still going to be bringing you a boatload of content to enjoy. Outside of our regular anime posts, we’ve got our manga posts (Bleach, FAIRY TAIL, Katekyo Hitman Reborn!, Naruto, and Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai), along with Zephyr’s Blasts from the Past, Moomba’s OST posts, and my own Stilts Out Loud editorial column (shameless plug, woo!). Oh, and an occasional podcast as well, including the Fall 2012 Retrospective which will be coming out next week.

So sit back, buckle in, and get ready for another crazy season of aniblogging fun with RandomC! I have a feeling this is going to be a good one, don’t you?

10/14: Zanibas has officially picked up Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun.
10/15: Moomba has decided to pick up Girls und Panzer.
10/16: Zephyr and BakaMochi are teaming up to cover Zetsuen no Tempest. Zephyr will be contributing the words while BakaMochi provides the pictures.

  1. BLASPHEMY!!! Come on seriously not one person is willing to cover Hayate no Gotoku or Gintama? I understand that covering gintama at this point would be a long shot since so many episodes have already been aired but somebody should at least post ep 1 of Hayate up so we can discuss about it.

    1. Before we get a ton of questions on this in the comments, I’ll clarify here. =P

-This post does not indicate which shows are receiving first/second/third episode treatment. We are still figuring out assignments for who’s covering what series introductions.

-Like the post emphasizes, this list is NOT final. Last season, we ended up doing some switching, like myself taking up Oda Nobuna as an example, after having seen what a great first episode it was :3.

The point is: don’t give up hope! We may end up covering shows in the end ^^.

    2. ^ As mentioned in the post, “We’ll also be doing introductory posts about many of the shows we’re not covering, so if something catches one of our eyes, things will be shifted around to accommodate.” Thus, coverage schedule does not equate to which shows will get a preview or not.

Hayate is on the list of potential shows to at least get a 1st episode preview. Not guaranteed, but not forgotten.
Gintama however, will probably not get a preview due to the reason mentioned above.

  2. First off, I guess I’d just like to say congratulations to Enzo. Good luck in Japan, mate.

I’m a little sad that Tonari no Kaibutsu, JoJo, Hayate, and To-Love-Ru (which I totally watch for the plot) aren’t getting coverage, but it’s a huge season and you guys have limited time so I actually don’t mind much. That being said, I’m looking forward to what the upcoming Fall season has to offer, even though I’m trying to not to get my hopes up.

    1. Thank you, Click. I’ll be landing in Tokyo about 5 hours before Little Busters premières, so no guarantees of a same-day post!

I’d normally cover Tonari for sure (on contingency, anyway) and maybe TLR too, but with everything going on it’s going to be my leanest season for episodic coverage ever. Crappy season for it, too, as it looks like a good one – but I’ll try and make up for it with culturally-themed posts. And save up my strength for Taichi Tuesdays in January…

  3. Anyone who steps outside their comfort zone and tries something many people would not dare requires a hearty “good luck” from me and hopefully many others so GOOD LUCK IN JAPAN ENZO! After all, what is a dream if it is not somewhat foolish and illogical? I hope you succeed in whatever you pursue there!

On another note, the shows I’ll be watching are all being covered nicely (except for Zetsuen) so it’ll be nice to see posts from you all. Should be a fun fall season!

      1. It’s weird that u guys are not covering Medaka Box 2, Zetsuen, and C;B, yet u are planning on reviewing the episodes of Initial D or Hiiro no Kakera (i didn’t watch the first season of it but i can remember that not a lot of comments were submitted every time a new episode review of it came up), but i don’t know, i guess u have ur own considerations….

      1. Arguably, the entire First Season is very misleading. Medaka Box is absolutely nothing like what the First Season suggests, except for the final Unzen Arc, which is really the first story arc that is true to the theme and premise of Medaka Box. The arc that this season of Medaka Box covers should be rated and treated like an action Shounen. That’s what it is, that is Nisio’s opening case against Shounen. It will eventually end up in a deconstructive parody of Shounen itself.

  4. I have seen that for this season, some of the posts are a week or so after the aired episode so its makes sense that you guys want to condense down to fewer shows, as long as they’re on time because you guys are busy. To Enzo, good luck being in Japan, jealous that you’re going to be surrounded by so much culture!

  5. First up, big grats to Enzo! Saw that announcement on your site, major respect for that. Do keep us informed of your progress 😀

As for the schedule, it is time for some analysis, once again! Once again the schedule is subjected to change and in no way final. Hence there might be some changes from the time this comment was made.

    Poll results:
Assuming each poller is honest and uses up all 5 options, multiply each result x5 and we have, rounded up/down

PP @ 45%~ (ie almost 1/2 of the users selected this)
    R;N @ 42%~
    LB @ 40%~
    K @ 35%
    Jormungand @ 28%
    CB @ 25% (Not covered)
    Shin Sekai @ 21%
    Magi @ 21%
    BTOOM @ 20%
    Chuunibyou @ 20%
    TLR @ 20% (Not covered)

    What does this mean?
The majority of the “popular” shows are still being covered, although the lack of CB and Tempest surprised me a little. That being said, as Stilts pointed out and the list is rather indicative of, everyone is taking a step back from the hectic schedule that was Summer which had almost had at least a post everyday!

As you may, or may not know, blogging takes up a lot of time (ie 8 hours for the Horizon post) and probably in the ranges of 2-3 hours for the average (just a guess). So lesser coverage = more time = more quality and timely posts.

Moving on to the popular WHY IS X NOT COVERED question:

First of all, don’t forget about first episode impressions, which should be done for just about most shows listed here, save a few long running series perhaps. The most common reasons include:

    1. Long running series which either no one watches, or it would be strange to cover it there and then. Gintama, Jojo etc
    2. The obvious stuff that a select few watch
    3. Ecchi/Harem/Guilty pleasure titles like TLR:D, OniAi and Girls und Panzer. Screen caps ought to do a better job than the post itself, simply because while there is “plot” per se, there isn’t much to say about the episode as a whole, bluntly speaking.

tl;dr: This list is legit, apart from a couple of choices which surprised me (due to the reduced workload anyways), popular titles are mostly covered, with each writer getting at least 1. I’ve checked who is doing what and the list seems to be well spread out. So instead of grumbling we should be grateful whereas in the past a single Divine was covering 16! shows per season. Times have indeed changed.

    1. 2-3 hours for an average post is about right, with season finales taking a bit longer (say 4 hours, give or take). My 8+ hour Kyoukaisen posts are a bit atypical, to say the least :X

Also, your reasons are pretty spot on, though I’ll say that some of us (me, unlisted, Divine) have no problem covering ecchi shows. This season there were just other ones that I wanted to cover more. Still, I don’t mind telling you that OniAi was next on my list. Sometimes it’s fun to just gush about the fanservice :3

      Stilts
    2. Yeah, I was hoping someone would cover tempest at least, but who knows maybe the 1st episode might give a good impression. I havent read the books, but the trailer looked interesting, and Im looking for some mystery shows this season.

It would be nice to have someone cover Code breaker, I will be watching but I read the first 2 books and I couldnt seem to get very excited about it. I was hoping maybe the anime and voice acting might pique my interest. Author’s art is well done, I loved samurai deeper kyo when I was in HS.

      unknown2
  6. Aw, Mochi didn’t get Psycho-Pass. I was sure she’d get that. Wonder what happened :3
Moomba and Stereoman going strong with 3 coverages. Moomba’s are all in the weekends huh. That’s tough.
And Zanibas is dropping Shirokuma Cafe? I know it’ll go on for next month since the new ED is announced(Panda Mama). I guess it’s okay to drop coverage since there’s hardly anyone commenting there despite being a great show. That means another show can get covered *cough*TLRD*cough*
Lastly, good luck with Enzo’s trip to the motherland of anime. I hope you get settled quickly and hope you succeed there. It’ll be tough on the first weeks/months I think but the bright side is you can watch HxH and other shows as it airs on TV! And we’ll be on the same timezone as well. Well, one hour behind but details..

I’m okay with less coverage as long as it’s timely and high-quality.
This season really looks promising. Here’s to a good season of anime.

    1. Mochi’s #1 pick was K, which airs on the same day as PSYCHO-PASS. Since I don’t want any of the writers to have two shows on the same day (with “no-lifers” like Stereoman being an exception), I figured it it was better to give Mochi her first pick rather than her second. 🙂

Moomba doesn’t “really” have two shows on the same day, because Aoi Sekai no Chuushin de is 3 episodes long and only airs once a month. He was only willing to pick up a third show this season if it was this one.

  7. There are a few shows I was wondering about that aren’t covered but I guess if they’re good enough they’ll be continued after the introductory posts.

Also seems like we’ll get verdant-enzo different views on Urobuchi once again. (at least I assume there’s no way Enzo will actually be able to stop himself from blogging Psycho Pass)

    HakumeiJin
      1. This is starting at the very beginning though, and looks to be extremely faithful. The only other anime adaptations were a half-baked OVA of part 3 and a movie that Araki didn’t even allow to be released, so it seems like it’ll be the best way for newcomers to jump in.

  8. So sit back, buckle in, and get ready for another crazy season of aniblogging fun with RandomC! I have a feeling this is going to be a good one, don’t you?

Hmm. I grown tired of saying “Yes” every season so I’ll go for “I’ll think of it” for a change.

  9. I just think that we can’t force the writers/bloggers to pick up more shows… I mean, after all, they are doing it because they like it. Not to mention they spend a fair amount of time on doing so (Yes, Stilts I’m talking to you!)

Anyway, I thank every RC bloggers for picking up the shows and writing constructive post for us to read and discuss. I really appreciate it.

    Kanade
  10. Good luck in Japan Enzo! 😀 I really hope everything works out in your favour ^__^

As for the coverage… I am surprised by it. I sincerely hope someone picks up Bakuman, as season 3 is where things start to get very interesting. :3

    Skins Thunderbomb
  11. I don’t want to come off as sounding too bitter here, but it’s unfortunate to me that the long-awaited adaptation of such a legendary and influential manga isn’t getting covered. Oh well though, I guess the list isn’t final.

    Altritter
  12. Although Tempest is not being intially covered/planned (I feel guilty for not voting for it, but it was between Tempest and Magi for me for the 5th anime), I’m excited that I get to follow Mochi/Stilts/Zanibas’ regular posts next season. I look forward to reading them! 🙂

  13. Sayonara Enzo. Don’t be a stranger and pop once in a while.

Just throwing an idea out there. Since you guys lose some bloggers: why not try to get a couple more? That could yiled a 2~4 more show covered.
Anyway keep the good work ganbarimatsu onegai shimatsu!

    Yes!@
  14. Knowing that someone will blog the anime I’ll watch makes me looking forward to the anime even more!

And congrats to Enzo! Going to Japan is one of the things I want to do most at the moment.

    destinyflower
  15. I didn’t expect Code:Breakers to not be covered. I was looking forward to that. It was so high in the poll too.
Well, on the bright side, many of the other great shows are covered!!!
    RandomC still rocks.

    Djalaal
  16. Fingers crossed for Hayate and Seitokai, but if not this might be what pushes me to type something up… hmm… nevermind… Thank you for blogging a vast majority of the shows I’ll be watching and I appreciate all the hard work from RandomC, ESPECIALLY Stilts for those ridiculously long pieces you have written over the course of Kyoukai which I thoroughly enjoy wasting time reading. (When really I should be doing work XD)

  17. Hey @Enzo “Do you know the secret of the world?” Just to know how much you know about LB! VN.

It´s nice to have the shows once again distributed in the week. Summer was Saturday/Sunday + Yuru Yuri Mondays.

    Lulu
    1. I actually think it’s more fun for both the blogger and the bloggee (?) with mega-hype series if the blogger doesn’t know the source material intimately. But to answer your question evasively, I haven’t played the VN. Yes, I know about the existence of “the secret of this world”. I’ll leave it a mystery as to just how much I know, and how much I don’t. 😉

      1. Yes. I feel the same way. It’s more interesting without knowing the source material, but was wondering anyways. Also can’t blame me for reading the VN, especially LB which I taught never would get animated.

Also congrats about your resolve to to go to Japan I have just read it in LiA. Hope you can keep blogging. Will you post some photos or stories about your daily life in Japan?

        Lulu
      2. Of course. Hope to see your future posts in LiA soon, but don´t expect me to comment as I am more the lurker type (I´ve been a RC follower since Omni was here, yet I can count my comments with my both hands).

        Lulu
  18. I was hopeful to see Kamisama Hajimemashita get covered – can understand that it is considered a niche show, being shoujo and all, but I’ll hold out hope someone may yet pick it up after everything begins airing! =)
At least do a first episode preview on it. That would be cool. Please? -puppy eyes-

    Sekaya
  19. Looking forward for those shows and the following blog post!!

But I do wonder….. Will we have another case of writer switch?? But I won’t complain if it happens. After all its up to the writer to pick an anime of his/her interest and blog it.

@verdant Thk 4 tht. It would help me to decide should I watch JoJo or not.

    D-LaN
  20. Enzo!! Have a safe move and have fun in Japan!! You have to visit the Ghibli Museum~~ I am burning with envy here lol.
Anyways, I am honestly surprised no one’s covering Zetsuen. I know studio Bones hasn’t really done themselves a favor in the past two years, but I still expected someone to pick the show up. Ahh, I’m a little sad. But no matter, there are still the other potentially awesome shows to make up for my disappointment.

    GlassShadow
    1. I did visit the Ghibli last time I was in Japan, and it definitely fits in that “magic for kids of all ages” category. It was also in the midst of Sakura season, and the blossoms in Inokashira Park (adjacent to the museum) were some of the most beautiful I saw anywhere in Japan.

      1. I’ve only seen Ghibli Museum via film..T-T…and it definitely felt like a magical place even through a screen. Someday, SOMEDAY I’ll visit Tokyo and watch the cherry blossoms. But first, I need to finish my degree and get a job to support myself. The woe of a student is great.

        GlassShadow
  21. Were I able to understand Japanese, I’d offer to take up Medaka Box (quite surprised no-one was interested in it) and Girls und Panzer.

Besides Psycho Pass, Code Breaker, and Jorgumund, those were the ones that I planned on watching. Everything else is uncharted territory and/or not my cup of tea.

Maybe I’ll finally get some time to catch up on old shows that I’ve been meaning to get to.

    Stranger
  22. even more excited for the fall season than ever. tons of the series that i’m watching have ended/are ending (there were tons of one cour animes in the summer) and even longer running shows have ended (sket dance but gintama is replacing that..so i guess it’s fine.)

kinda upset that no one is blogging tonari :O this seemed like a really good season for shoujou, a genre that’s been kind of quiet this year. but i guess priorities must be made!

    grey
  23. Just saw a raw version of Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai. It seemed like a regular episode, but was only about 11 minutes long (?). Anyway, I knew it was KyAni because at 2:09, the character Yuuta gets a full-face closeup, and I almost got whiplash doing a double-take. It’s Harutao about 2-3 years younger. I guess if you have a character with high recognition quotient, you stay with it. Or did I just dream all that?

    SmithCB
  24. CODE:BREAKER should be covered, you know. It’s a decent show. The premise reminds me of Wolf Guy Ookami no Monshou (just the premise though since they will be totally different after that; WG is NC-17, basically hentai/porn at timesShow Spoiler ▼

while CB is through and through Shounen).

    deathtogenericshows
  25. first week status update:
    dropped: K
reason: something rubs me wrong about the combo of swords and superpowers… I guess Jormungand is more my style? Or am I getting jaded from kicking the force users posteriors with sniper and commando in my fave MMO?
    on 3 episodes probation: BTOOM!
reason: while I like “When in doubt, lob another grenade!” theme, I am worried about possible theme of people being sent away to the island for variety of “sins” (the protagonist being “unproductive” gamer… and as it seems from the preview, his girl counterpart for something involving betrayal of friends…) I would not mind such theme in a truly supernatural show like Jigoku shojo or Shigofumi – but here it seems out of place/artificial (does it make OOPA?)
pretty sure to continue watching: Zetsuen no Tempest
reason: I find the characters interesting, from Yashino and Mahiru as odd pair of friends to Yamamoto as “volunteer” witch-hunter, to Hakaze’s spunky attitude… Plus while magic seems to easily beat mundane weapons, they certainly do exist as a factor in the game.

    ewok40k
  26. Can someone confirm this for me? Seitokai no Ichizon won’t be broadcasted publicly but it will only be available on a online site which is subscription based? That niconico website thing?
