「だって嬉しかったのよ」 (Datte Ureshikattanoyo)
“Because I Was Happy”
Fruits Basket never fails to make me cry. Also, if you attended CRX 2019 I hope you had a good time!
General Impressions
And here I thought that last week’s episode was focused on Hana-chan. But in a surprising turn of events we instead got a proper flashback episode that dove straight into her back story which also explained just how she became the person she is today. The biggest surprise for me being just how supportive her family was when it came to her ESP. Because if I’m being honest here, I never would have thought the story would have been able to portray things with an emotional punch unless someone was completely surrounded by metaphorical darkness. That said, it isn’t too hard to see how Hana-chan’s thinking and general mentality would lead her down a path that could cloud everything around her. I mean, for a kid she seemed extra mature for her age and the thought that she could kill someone just by thinking it was probably such a terrifying thought that it’s amazing she could function normally.
But as always in true Fruits Basket fashion, we got to see the moment where Tohru and Arisa were able to shine some light into Hana-chan’s world and in turn give her an opportunity to see just how great it is to live life. What was surprising is that even though what the final outcome would be, it didn’t affect just how amazing it was when Tohru and Arisa extended their friendship in Hana-chan’s time of need.
Overall, a rather simple episode that just gave us a much closer look into just what makes Hana-chan tick. A look that was rather unexpected but simply amazing when it comes to fleshing out and giving a side character a little more oomph. Anyways, I’ll catch you guys next week! That and thanks for being patient with how late the post is — CRX or Crunchyroll Expo was this week and it’s been super busy. Luckily it only runs until Sunday which gives everyone a chance to recover on Monday since it’s a National Holiday today.

Such a great episode. Her powers also open up a can of worms for how much magic actually exists in this world. A girl with ESP. A doctor with memory erasing abilities. An entire clan of animal shape shifters. It makes you wonder what this world’s foundation is.
this Doctor is also an shape shifter, no this is no Spoiler
But this is a “hint” or proof that a normal Human can cast magic.. Somehow
or is she also “special”?
perhaps Tohru has the opposite “magic” and that’s why they become friends. Tohru was a little bit stronger
It’s times like these that I can’t stress enough of friendship or at least someone who can back you up.
