「日常 10」 (Nichijou 10)
“My Ordinary Life 10”
I’ll admit that I have slowly been warming up to Mai. While I’m a big fan of being a good friend, I was dying when she was being a total jerk without being a jerk. In a match of wits, I don’t think anyone would be able to stand up to Mai and it was pure genius what she did to Yuuko this week. Straight from the magician’s book of tricks, the way she was able to control Yuuko’s attention was amazing. I don’t know how she got stained glass into those windows, but boy was it impressive.
With Nichijou’s strange cast of side characters, Annaka was nearly too cute for me to handle. Not only does her extra large ribbon accentuate her cuteness, but I love how she seems so normal! In a world where being different is almost the norm, her ability to be normal is actually more defining then not being normal. With her constant “ehhh?!” noises and that dumbfounded look of hers, who would have thought that a side character like her would be so cool?
But while we’re talking about cute characters, Hakase was quite adorable this week. It’s fun to watch a little kid try to act all high and mighty only to have the world dropped onto them. Once again, it would have been great for Nano to have tried to manipulate Hakase and give her a taste of her own medicine. But she’s just too darn honest. It’s times like these where I wonder how different things would be if Nano was actually a real human. Makes you wonder how different things might be. Sakamoto on the other hand had no problems acting like a real dad and gave Hakase a little taste of what being an adult means. Still it’s amazing how a single sentence or two can blow a little kid’s mind, even if they are a genius or not.
For all the readers out there who still haven’t discovered what they want to do for the rest of their life, Yuuko’s epic life struggle made me smile. Not because I came away from it enlightened, but because I can say that I’ve experienced that before. Beating the crap out of my floor, pacing around like an idiot, and then getting yelled at for being dumb. Thank god my parents aren’t SF4 fanatics. But can you remember ever trying to fight against reality to no avail?! It’s sort of like that feeling of sitting down to do homework, not wanting to do it, walking away, and eventually ending up right back in front of it. Even if you try to make it disappear, it just sits there and waits for you. Forever.
This is the first time in a long time I had to pause an episode of anything because I was laughing so hard I couldn’t go on. The beginning with Mai had me in a flood of tears. I just had to stop for a good 5 minutes and just let it out. It’s the same thing I like about Run in A-Channel. Her expression just ‘makes the scene whole’ for me.
Mai’s troll skills continue to amaze me. I mean, I should have seen it coming, but when she took of her shoes and just sat down, it just killed me.
And Hakase + Nano continue to be the highlight for me. Sakamoto was on fire this week. I was actually surprised at how gentle Hakase seemed to be when she was cleaning the egg off of Sakamoto’s head.
I second that. Nano and Hakase interactions are also my highlights!
I have to say the skit with the homework had me on the floor laughing. Just thinking of the amount of time i would spend saying “I dont want to study!” before doing the work was ridicules, and seeing yuuko doing the very same thing… priceless.
and the “I dont want to study! I dont want to be a frilled Lizard!” part actually made me pause the episode, laughed for ages.
I left my homework around, because I was playing computer games. *sigh*
loved this episode XD
Mai has mastered the art of trolling it seems. Or rather, it seems she was born with this gift.
Poor Annaka. Like her, I too was going “EHHH~~!?” at the surreal fracas that she had to go through in that Soumen sketch. lol
WHAAAAAAAT!?
Am i the only one who see a hayate no gotoku reference here : https://randomc.net/image/Nichijou/Nichijou%20-%2010%20-%20Large%2037.jpg
When hayate in elementary school read an essai about his life dream in front of his class and say that is biggest dream is to live in a 3ldk

Aw, no Helvetica Standard this week 🙁
Nano looks irresistably cute in those overalls.

When the egg fell on the cat’s head not once but twice I LOLed so hard. That and the skit with Yuuko trying to sneak into the trap filled classroom made my day.
This show wins at life.
The first skit was by far my favorite this episode, although the one about Yuuko trying to sneak into the classrooom is a very close second. Mai-chan, you troll. I just HAVE to do that next time I play red light green light. xDDD
Poor Yuuko; she has such an abusive family. Too bad it’s hilarious.
unlike you Takaii my friend Mai’s constant trolling is sending her down in my list of “least favorite characters” I just can’t bring myself to like her character since I’m kinda always on Yukko’s side because she gets trolled by pretty much everybody on the show. On the other hand I totally am with you all the way regarding the Hakase Nano and Sakamoto segment
Glad there is a fellow Yuuko sympathizer here ^^ Mai is a genius troll, but man is she cold.
Yuuko and Nano are everyone’s joke scapegoats. I feel sorry for both of them too.
LOL @ the Invincible Alien skit. As if can get more random than that!
Mai, the Queen of Trolls. If only I’d thought of that during elementary school. Imagine if she had food/entertainment in her bag and took it out in front of them… 😀
Yuuko’s mom is getting more screen time…
and Im loving it XD
~p.s. There is no such thing as an invincible alien XD
YUSSSSSS
I must be missing something – I don’t understand why she couldn’t have devised a way to keep the eraser from falling on the lower door. I would think you could hold it in place, open the door slightly, remove it, and then go on through. It’s not like she couldn’t reach it like the ones on the normal doors…
But man, I would not want to see what kind of trolling Mai would do to her enemies if this is what she does to her “friends”.
Seeing Mai eating that bubble she blew up might be the most single dumbest thing she has ever done in the entire series. But that also made her more adorable ><
plus, what was up with the rocket bit?
"If I say like that!"
what the heck does that means??
Means that he was fooling around and not doing a real countdown. But he was on air so everyone thought it was a real countdown. No telling what might be in the shuttle’s way if that wasn’t in the launch window (but since they were ready to go, they must have been). Just they way he said it caught them all off guard.
To me this was the worst episode ever!
“Usotsuki”
A subtle seiyuu joke there…
I enjoyed reading the article and all but for some reason this page took forever to open up, I don’t think im the only one with this same problem.
