「夜帷」 (Tobari)
“Nightfall” 「はじめての嫉妬」 (Hajimete no Shitto)
“First Fit of Jealousy”
Ugh-not another character who’s weirdly obsessed with one of the MCs. Fiona Frost (Sakura Ayane) and Yuri are two birds of the same feather and goodness knows (for me at least) even one character like that is one too many. It goes without saying that Loid and Yor are a good fit for each other, balancing each other out and providing a loving home for Anya. Previous episodes have already well established the home dynamics between these two- Yor’s dedication to the Forgers and her domestic insecurities. Loid’s acceptance of Yor for as she is (or at least the part of her that he can see-the spy thing is obviously a whole other matter that gets danced around).
At this point, it’s just plain silly (and irritating) to introduce an attempt at a love triangle. I didn’t get the point of this chapter in the manga and certainly not in the anime. I suppose filler material was needed to fill in a stop gap while the main story is a work in progress. But, considering it’s a series that publishes bi-monthly, not weekly, it’s a bit much. I suppose they needed to introduce Madam Frost, but surely they could have left out all of the annoying homewrecking “I love you Loid” theatrics. I suppose if she and Yuri ever meet, they would get along just fine (their undercover jobs aside), both working towards the same goal of homewrecking the happy Forgers.
The ending was overly sappy, repeating pretty much what we already know-Yor, Loid, and Anya need each other-nothing new added here, just running the mileage down on the same theme. The B part with jealous Bond wasn’t much better-more sentimentalism. It frustrates me that Spy x Family will have a good episode like last week, only to be followed by a sub-par one like this week. Following that pattern, hopefully next week will be improved (and if Frost’s screen time is small, that would be ideal).

“I suppose filler material was needed to fill in a stop gap while the main story is a work in progress”
Um, this is part of the main story and last week was partly filler. Fiona was formally introduced this episode, but appeared in episode 20.
This is what happens when anime only guys don’t read the bloody manga. They can’t tell what’s filler and what isn’t.
The fun bit about this show, for me at least, is that the only real filler that’s been added was the action scenes in the castle episode. Everything else is either a short side-story or a volume extra.
Well, perhaps some Anime only Guys do not want to be spoiled. Yes, there are some Manga Fans that think “I want to see this Animated!”, but there are also “I do not want to be Spoiled!” Fans
Switch with me.
Loid really needs to stop grabbing anya by the shirt from behind. The girl is still traumatise by the first kidnapping from episode 1.
Also Fiona is kinda sad. Twilight trained her too well and now she cannot even express basic emotions (at least not on the outside).
Perhaps Loid has this “Cat garbing” instinct around her 🙂
Loid definitely has a protective instinct for Anya, which is a good thing, with all of the trouble Anya gets herself into.
On one hand, it is sad to see how Fiona hides her emotions (and by extend Loid, although we can see that he’s slowly becoming more genuine in his emotions even if he doesn’t realize it yet)-that’s definitely not healthy for anyone. On the other hand, as a viewer, I am sort of glad her emotions are repressed-if she gave vent to her Loid fanaticism in public, I don’t know if I could stomach watching that for a whole episode, much like with Yuri and his Yor fanaticism.
Yet another episode where I distinctly remember the Manga chapter taking longer to illustrate a character like Fiona Frost. I read Manga at bars so either it was a really long chapter or I am reading the introduction of Fiona really slow due to the alcohol.
I also remembered in the Manga Fiona’s opinion of Anya after their first meeting was exactly like how Yuri viewed Anya, “This girl is inferior”.
I also remembered something similar (although my memories are hazy since it’s been a year since I last read that part of the manga). I guess in the anime, they chose to focus on her opinion of Yor to dig her insecurities out again while showcasing Twilight’s growing connection with Yor.
